Yes, can go earlier.

Added on September 15, 2008, 8:23 amOne question on mobile phone calls in UK.

Do BOTH caller and receiver has to pay for the phone calls? Or just the caller as in Malaysia?

erm...I not sure whether you need to cancel the appointment slot or not, I think you better call the VFS to confirm. My case is the appointment slot is fully booked, so I have to walk-in to apply. (never book for appointment slot online)

p/s: hope you see this message in time sad.gif Sorry for not answering clearly sad.gif

Anybody here from Taylor's Engineering twinning program? Mind telling the pros and cons about this program?

I'm trying to figure out more about studying at Birmingham,

(i) living cost, accomodation, course fees, miscellaneous fees, and stuff?

(ii) What makes life in Malaysia different with Birmingham's? Culture? People? Safety?

(iii) Is there much Malaysian students?

(iv) Part-time jobs limited to 20hrs weekly, usually where do students work? Satisfactory pay?

Thanks a lot guys for giving me valuable info. notworthy.gif

y they wan to sponsor u ?

how much they will pay u every month and so on. This part is Very Important rite ?? how u guys fill it ? Plz advice.
Plus if i had not work b4 and had no savings, is that ok ?

I'm really confuse and worry rite now....

Will they interview everyone who had apply ??

what is the most important document to show them ??

*
on the sponsorship, i think the main concern is whether that money is sufficient for a student to live in that particular uni. The given number is compared against their cost of living per annum. This normally avail inside uni's prospectus. From the financial view, as long as your financial support is sufficient, i don't see any reason why they want to reject your application. So, if your uncle able to prove he can fulfill that criteria, there's no need to worry about it.

Interview will take place if they want to ask further clarifications from you. Normally occur if the submitted documents are not sufficient for their references. So, be prepared to answer in details any question that that they ask during the interview

Important document? Difficult to tell which is important. But they need to see the whole docs so that they are able to 'see' your background first.

Min amount that they've to pay working adult is £5.70-ish PER HOUR (forgot the exact number), less than that you can report to union or authority, e.g. revenue& customs. Student allow to work at unlimited hours during summer. Odd jobs are easily avail for student, such as cleaner (floor engineer), working at tills, replenish goods, proofreader, selling arts or even design a website, depends on your tech skills.

You are saying...if the parent are Malaysia HSBC Premier account holder and you yourself aren't, there are still benefit?
Yes

And what sort of UK HSBC are you talking about? Basic Account, Passport Account or Student Account? Or are you say, they open a UK Premier Account for you with no monthly fees?
Premier Account with no monthly fees. As long as ure parents maintain a steady premier account back in Malaysia.

*
I called up HSBC premier center. They told me, for the son to have a Premier Account in UK, his name MUST be in Malaysia's Premier account.

How come? Who did you talk to saying otherwise? Thanks.

Perhaps you can have a quick list of stuff you are bringing and we can see if there's anything you can remove? I would avoid having too much cloth because you can buy them here and they're cheap when it's sale season.

About a trading account, you can consider HSBC Invest Direct. They don't have any annual fees which makes life a lot easier as you are only charged per trade (£10 IIRC). You'll have a discount as well if you go over a certain number of trades. This account is ideal for buy to hold.

There are accounts that charge you a lower fee for each trade but you'll need to pay for an account maintenance fee each year. You'll need to do the math and see which one is better.

I think the best way is to contact some organisation to help you, for example Mabecs. You can google for their contact numbers smile.gif

Hi, Geminist, I think I will reorganize everything again tmr and will come back to you if still overweight. (my travel agent nvr help me apply for additional weight allowance, hence now I can onli check in 22kg baggage instead of 30 kg shakehead.gif)

I agree with you, previously because I not familiar with their rules so need to go for so many times. Fortunately, the staff at counter 3 and room 8 are kind enough to assist me smile.gif

lol..yeah thankx biggrin.gif yup it went well juz wondering how long it'll take. (im cutting it very close here bout 2 weeks before departure date blink.gif )

yup they were friendly that's the good thing. juz tat i didnt noe need to pay using bank draft so in the end had to go out get the bank draft come back in and queue up again rclxub.gif went did u apply ur visa??? got it dy? how long did it took?

btw got question bout buying handphones using a contract.

lets say....i buy a phone under contract (lets say its phone A) and then i want to see phone B and want to go for it. can i juz return phone A and go for phone B or do i have to go and wait for the contract to end? anyway ways that i can change from phone A to phone B?

another scenario i wan to ask is, lets say a phone is slated to come out soon. so i buy a contract (example: GBP35 for 12 months) without the phone and then the phone comes out and its free with a contract of GBP35 for 18 months. can i juz upgrade?

edit: anyone ever used carphone warehouse? or mobile.co.uk? are they good?
