QUOTE(vandechrome @ Jan 12 2015, 04:16 PM) i am looking for outdoor water filter to be used at my apartment. which the normal POE would not fit the area and i can say that the management won't allow it. the alternative is to go with smaller version of 3M AP 902 - like water filter. however i am in a tight budget situation, just wondering, is there any other brand that carry the similar size filter as 3M with cheaper price? This RM400 POE system perhaps ? https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopi...post&p=69899540 QUOTE(fireballs @ Jan 14 2015, 03:51 PM) shortlisting for budget filter: (price of filter/price of catridge/catridge life) 3M AP Easy = RM700/250/2800liter Aquasana AQ4000 = RM800/RM300/2000 liter Culligan IC EZ4 = RM400/300/1900liter 3M filter = 0.5 micron Aquasana A=5micron, B=0.5micron Culligan = ?? micron so i believe the cheapest solution would be to have a RM30/RM2 prefilter plus the 3M AP EasyI had a double RM25 cheapo Aeon Big 10" sediment filters as my POE. First filter 5 micron, second filter 1 micron. Cheapest POE system for handyman who has no problem replacing the filter cartridges. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « QUOTE(aeiou228 @ Oct 14 2014, 02:27 PM) Ozak, last i checked the 3M AP902 replacement cartridge price at Perfect Living Exhibition last month was RM450 (List Price). If want cheaper alternative yet serve the same purpose, perhaps this one ? RM450 only. For POE water filter, I use 2 units cheapo RM25 AEON Big standard transparent 10" water filter housing, first filter I use the easily available 5 micron PP sediment filter cartridge and second filter use 1 micron cartridge. The RM3.00 1 micron cartridge can get from The Living Depost, right in front of AEON Big Puchong Utama. So far, water quality in my area is quite clean and I only need to change the cartridge every 3 to 4 months. Some ppl may have the opinion that this type of POE sediment pre-filter is inconvenientand need to change cartridge very often though it is cheap and low maintenance, but to handyman ppl like you it's kacang la. After all, frequent replacement of cartridge also means you get rid of harmful bacterial stuck at the cartridge more often.

speaking of the rm25 aeon filters, what is the filter media to use? i have been using rm 2 per filter, polypropelene solid type. wash every month and change new one when lazy or too hard to clean.
does it make sense to switch to more expensive ones?
thinking of adding a doulton ceramic 0.2micron. they are cheap too. one about rm50 (probably fake one) before my pou filter

Please refer to my quoted post above where you can get the 1 micron sediment filter for RM3. By the way, don't re-use the pp sediment filter, just replace with a new one when it gets dirty. Ace hardware got NSF certified 10" filter cartridge too but too expensive. After all, the cheapo 1 micron sediment filter is good enough already for washing and bathing. QUOTE(chickytien @ Jan 15 2015, 09:15 AM) Yes, the smaller the better, depends on what is the end results you aim to achieve. you wouldnt want ultra microns, although it removes most contaminants in the water, but its also remove all beneficial minerals (like calcium, magnesium, phosphorus) in the water. not advisable for long term drinking purpose. You want a small microns so that can remove most harmful contaminants in the water, including pharmaceutical drugs, organic and inoganic contaminants, herbicides, pesticides, heavy metals etc. Some filter that have sizes less than 0.01 microns claim to remove 99.9% of bacteria in the water also, but to be safe, its still advisable to boil the water after filter (unless the filter comes with UV to kill of water borne bacteria and viruses) puretrex or nanotec good? sediment filter is enough or must have carbon filter too? whoa 1 micron already good right?
