i am looking for outdoor water filter to be used at my apartment. which the normal POE would not fit the area and i can say that the management won't allow it.

the alternative is to go with smaller version of 3M AP 902 - like water filter. however i am in a tight budget situation, just wondering, is there any other brand that carry the similar size filter as 3M with cheaper price?

laugh.gif Was reading on some earlier postings and came across his comments. Would be great to have a biochemistry student's substantiated comments and opinions, besides just giving the mere 'BS' call-out.

And why does the forum not remove older threads or comments past a certain date?

It's to build on knowledge and allows people to review info, and an avenue for discussion, no?

While reading some comments, I found this unanswered exchange of comments. Hence I asked. You're saying to leave it alone?

And hey, we're only 13 days out from last year. How much new content can be posted? rolleyes.gif

Ah.. I'm not asking you to leave it alone, but since the original posters didn't willing to reply your question then just leave it as use to be (as you seen he respond to your quote as well)... so it might end up unwanted flame war.. blush.gif

Yeah, I did comment, and the reply given was literally 'what's happening'. doh.gif

Anyhow, an explanation would still be welcomed.

To change the topic to something more useful, have you heard of Aquasana? Yes they're NSF and WQA certified, and seem to be very attractive in terms of pricing. Have you done a comparison?

Oh yes. I do remember someone here posted before about the Aquasana brand, and they do have few models certified by NSF. But I'm not sure local which seller carry which model no. and their pricing.

What model and pricing you got researched over there?

http://www.aquasana.com.my/

I've not called them before, but based on their site, RM799 for a countertop filter that is comparable to the eSpring in terms of the final water standards.

This could be an old pricing, so let's say it's now RM1100 including installation, it's still far more attractive than eSpring (just doesn't come with the UV light).

Moreover, Aquasana in their US site has new models. If really interested will have to call these guys up. I've tried emailing, but no response.

I haven't come across someone here reported some local Malaysia Aquasana distributor/reseller. But I do know Singapore have one. Check the following quote.

Let's recall back some 2012 year old of posts. blush.gif
QUOTE(NIckLJF @ Dec 20 2012, 02:46 PM)
Did a quick look at Aquasana. Rather ambiguous claims regarding the NSF certification. They submit for NSF is only up to 500 gallons but they claim they test to 1000 gallons, which means its only their own claim for the additional 500 gallons.

You could end up paying RM299 every 6 months because that's what stated in the NSF data.

On another note, I notice that a lot of outdoor filter nowadays uses carbon to remove chlorine at POE. Wouldn't this do more harm than good because the water in the house (pipe,s tank, etc) wont have chlorine to inhibit bacteria growth?

QUOTE(phoenix69 @ Dec 20 2012, 04:39 PM)
If worried about that then buy the filter from Singapore and replace your self.
http://www.h2ofresh.com/filters.htm
1 set SGD 79.00 only Approx RM198.00
2 set SGD 150.00 only Approx RM376.00
based on your conservative calculation, still cheap compared to other NSF 53 cert filter.
Coupled together with low initial cost, sure can consider.

That's the local website I provided with local contacts. I'll probably try to give them a call this weekend to find out more.

From the quotes, seems like there's a maintenance cost of RM300 half-yearly for filter replacement.

How does this pricing (RM800 for machine + RM300 for filter replacement half-yearly) compare to eSpring?

I'm comparing to eSpring because it's also an NSF certified product, but is highly expensive.

shortlisting for budget filter: (price of filter/price of catridge/catridge life)

3M AP Easy = RM700/250/2800liter
Aquasana AQ4000 = RM800/RM300/2000 liter
Culligan IC EZ4 = RM400/300/1900liter

3M filter = 0.5 micron
Aquasana A=5micron, B=0.5micron
Culligan = ?? micron

so i believe the cheapest solution would be to have a RM30/RM2 prefilter plus the 3M AP Easy
