izzit normal?

Maybe you can provide us with a photo? Whole body gonna botak? Can you see anything moving? White spots. Could be mites. If serious case, bring it to the vet or use mite spray (frontline or something I suppose).

If still at its initial stage, bathe the fella throughly with shampoo, Johnson's Baby Shampoo or Small Pet Shampoo, I'm using Earthbath. Change the bedding if you haven't do so, clean the box / cage. If mites is your problem, this will work. After a week or so, you'll see new quills starting to grow.

not necessarily a bad thing. if you look at the brighter side, you have almost a year to research about hedgehogs before you officially get one as a pet. not the hardest to take care, but it's definitely not easy, so at the time being maybe you can read up websites and articles on hedgehogs to understand their behaviour better.

It's not shedding it's quills, something is causing it to fall from the looks. Your hedgehog has a nice colour. Looked orange.

The condition still not very bad. It'll grow back. The quill in the second picture seems fine, but is still hard to say. Try bathing it, and cleaning it's habitat. The common cause of hedgehogs going bald like in the picture is due to mites, either from other hedgehogs or dirty habitat. If you clean the habitat and the hedgehog, it'll be fine and new quills will grow.

Any other causes of falling quills are beyond me. If you don't think is caused by mites, or just for the peace of mind, try consulting a vet. Maybe you can ask jitshiong (usually found in glider forum). He have seen hedgehog attacked by mites before, maybe he can clarify it.

Looks like mites to me. Try taking a black piece of paper or any black material. Place your hedgie on top. Take a brush, it can be tooth brush or paint brush and lightly brush the skin. If tiny dust like things come out, it's mites. Need to bring to vet. This could be something that shampoo can't help.

Check the face and ears. Is it crusty? If it is, need vet fast.

If confirm is mites, you can ask for mites spray if you can't find vet that treats exotics in Penang. Keeping the hedgehog and it's place clean will definately helps improve the condition while you try to find a vet.

If face is crusty then could be something else from what I heard. There is a pet vet list in Petswonderland. Try looking up there and calling some of the vets if necessary. Good luck.

U may missed out Hedgehog and hamster interaction:
Here:

user posted image

my hedgehog (mable) rolls into ball and don't really bother the hamster, but the hamster is curious, always go near the hedgehog and leap to him, the hedgehog will then shake a bit and the actions repeat a few times then the hamster don't bother and go eat hedgehog food XD

yes, it's a brand. you'll be able to get it from certain petshops, retail price around ~RM60-70.

i know most are only applying frontline on their hedgehogs if they're infested with mites, but i also know several owners who regularly sprayed frontline (about once a month) to prevent mite problems.

it's hard to know how the mites came about, it could be the bedding, exposure to outdoor or to other pets. poor husbandry is definitely another reason, but it's not easy to know how your hedgehog initially got mites beneath its quills. you may even purchase a hedgehog which already has mites if the breeder or petshop didn't take proper care before they sell.

check the garage sales, i just saw a zoozone 2 for sale at RM150, which is pretty much near the price of a brand new one if you can find any. for your information zoozones are no longer in production, so you'll most likely find second-hand ones only, or if you're lucky enough to come across petstores that still have new ones in stock.

there's no particular petstores that caters to hedgehog stuffs, but most of the stuff you'll need are similar to cat, hamster, guinea pigs, etc's accessories, so it shouldn't be much of a problem to buy items for your hedgehog.
