i know most are only applying frontline on their hedgehogs if they're infested with mites, but i also know several owners who regularly sprayed frontline (about once a month) to prevent mite problems.

it's hard to know how the mites came about, it could be the bedding, exposure to outdoor or to other pets. poor husbandry is definitely another reason, but it's not easy to know how your hedgehog initially got mites beneath its quills. you may even purchase a hedgehog which already has mites if the breeder or petshop didn't take proper care before they sell.
check the garage sales, i just saw a zoozone 2 for sale at RM150, which is pretty much near the price of a brand new one if you can find any. for your information zoozones are no longer in production, so you'll most likely find second-hand ones only, or if you're lucky enough to come across petstores that still have new ones in stock.

there's no particular petstores that caters to hedgehog stuffs, but most of the stuff you'll need are similar to cat, hamster, guinea pigs, etc's accessories, so it shouldn't be much of a problem to buy items for your hedgehog.

i'm not so sure how a faunarium looks like, but if it can't fit in a wheel then i honestly think it's a bit too small for the hedgehog to even move about.

don't purchase those exercise balls, they're meant for hamsters, and hedgehogs are a few times bigger than the rodents, they will definitely have trouble running in the ball. hedgehogs are a little clumsy and not as agile as rodents, if i've not mistaken usually the balls will have some hole gaps for aeration and if your hedgehog gets its leg stuck in it while running they can break it.

i don't know how's the defination of ordinary catfood or kitten food, but personally for me the closest diet for hedgehog is RC fit32, but it's still not their best diet percentage. but i'm feeding my hedgehogs babycat 34 because of picky hedgehogs. wink.gif

Let him settle down first. New environment, new smell makes him uneasy, hence rolled into a ball. Put ur smelly clothes as his sleeping blankets, change when too dirty. This will make him more used o ur smell, and within a week or two, u can touch him slowly d.

2) how often do i need to feed it ? coz i hope not to overfeed it..haha..
U feed them when they r awake, mostly at midnight, 1 tablespoon. Then when u leave for school/work early morning, another tablespoon.

3) where to find the hedgehog wheel ?
U can get Wobust Wodent Wheel for hedgehog

there's no particular ways to carry your hedgehog. the safest way is of course scooping it up and let it move its legs onto your palm.

to be honest, it's all down to your mind. picking up a hedgehog, even with its quills resting on your hand, isn't painful to some people, but there are some who can't stand the thought of sharp things connecting with their flesh.

once you've overcome the fear then you'll be able to pick it up easily.

@ Vanda:
Hedgehog rolling into a ball is quite extreme in captivity. Most just rise their quills and hiss in defence. You need to spend more time with lil Romeo.

Put your hand or finger near the head of the rolled up hedgehog, wait and wait and wait till it sticks it's head out to check. Let it relax and let down it's defence with your hand near it, then try to pick it up with your hand. Move hand inwards from head to body. Preferrably hand under it's feet.

If it panic and rolled into a ball again, repeat the process again. If this is taking forever, try to bribe it with food.

@ danny94:
Close to it. But they are meat eaters.

my gf's hedgie sleeps alllllllllllllllll dayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy. Sheesh, such a boring thinggg. He never wants to play, and always always always hisses.

He's so scared of everything!!....

legend has it that he only comes out at night to run on his wheel.

@ danny94: Yeap hedgehogs are meat eaters. In the wild, they eat insects, worms, snails and other smaller animals. Some organic farm uses hedgehogs as pest control.

@ Vanda : After the fella licked you, it might bite you. So be careful. The pain is bareable, sometimes can play tug-of-war with it too. Haha.

Saw dust, can spot clean like what meento suggested, then change the whole bedding in 2 ~ 2 weeks will be good.

@ XaVieRGizmo: Ya, is quite a boring thing. But at the same time is cute. Hissing is common to all hedgehogs. If you spent lots of time with it then the hissing might go away.

Mine doesn't hiss at me anymore, so she might as well let me do whatever I want to her cause she knows hissing and poking wouldn't stop me.

just leave the wheel in the cage and you'll spot 'evidence' of them playing in it in the night. trust me, all hedgehog owners will tell you the same. wink.gif
