QUOTE Your Latest Khan Candidates are Edgar Ramirez and Jordi Molla ![]() Now that Benicio Del Toro has failed to reach a deal with Paramount and J.J. Abrams, the director is searching for a replacement villain, with “Carlos’s” Edgar Ramirez (below) and “Colombiana’s” Jordi Molla (left) in the mix, though Ramirez is said to be the frontrunner for the role. Apparently finding the right actor to play the sequel’s villain is now a matter of some urgency, with production on Abrams’ untitled “Star Trek” film scheduled to start up in January for what is expected to be a whopping 6-month shoot. It’s urgent enough that Ramirez is said to be prepping for an audition via Skype sometime this week, which is, I have to say, a new one for me. Can you really tell if someone can act through Skype? While no one is revealing who the two actors are testing for, let’s face it, it’s Khan. Isn’t it obvious by now? What does Del Toro, Ramirez, and Molla have in common? They’re all of Latin descent, just like Ricardo Montalban, who played the original Khan in 1982′s “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan”. So if the villain isn’t Khan, then that’s one hell of a coincidence. A decision, we’re told, should be made by the end of the month, possibly even this weekend. |

The other thing they have in common is a darker Mediterranean complexion, which could also mean they're playing a Klingon. Hairy, didn't I tell you to stop getting you info from Beyond Hollywood? |

Well, most of the time they get the news from other sources. Most of the time they do provide some good info. Maybe I just read the article before posting. Better to move the thread than not moving at all...Hairy, didn't I tell you to stop getting you info from Beyond Hollywood? Besides - its their own opinion and what they think. True or not can be use to debate... This post has been edited by hairyLGS: Dec 8 2011, 08:48 PM |

QUOTE Abrams: Star Trek 2 Will be Shot in 2D and Converted to 3D ![]() Good to know that even Mr. Secret Agent Man J.J. Abrams isn’t above trying to squeeze a few extra bucks out of you by converting his films into 3D and charging a little bit more. Talking to MTV, Abrams has confirmed that he will begun shooting the untitled “Star Trek” sequel sometime next month in 2012, with sets for the film still in the process of being built, and that the movie will be shot in 2D and then converted in post to 3D. Says Abrams: QUOTE We’re shooting on film, 2-D, and then we’ll do a good high-end conversion like the ‘Harry Potter’ movie and all that. Luckily, with our release date now we have the months needed to do it right because if you rush it, it never looks good. He also says they’re talking about shooting the film in IMAX, but that seems like a non-starter if he can’t even shoot the movie in 3D in the first place. By the way, Abrams still refuses to acknowledge that Khan is the sequel’s villain, which seems a bit silly at this point. He doesn’t deny it, he just doesn’t confirm it. But not denying it basically confirms it, since if Khan wasn’t in the movie, he could easily dismiss it and move on. But he doesn’t, so … yes, Khan will be the film’s villain. |

QUOTE Two Brits Land Major Roles in J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek Sequel ![]() The “Trek” sequel is getting mighty British of late. Previously, British lovely Alice Eve was cast in the movie, and now she can add two of her fellow countrymen “castmembers”. British actors Benedict Cumberbatch (with a name like that, you just KNOW he has to be British) and writer/director/actor Noel Clarke have both landed undisclosed roles in J.J. Abrams’ upcoming “Star Trek” sequel. Clarke is said to be playing “a family man with a wife and young daughter.” Well, that beats playing a single guy with no wife and young daughter, I guess. Meanwhile, Cumberbatch is said to be playing the film’s villain. In fact, Cumberbatch’s villain is said to be the same role that Edgar Ramirez recently auditioned for. Which is weird, because I think most people always assumed Ramirez was auditioning to replace Benicio Del Toro as Khan, who has long been rumored to be the sequel’s chief villain. But Cumberbatch sure doesn’t look very “Khan”-ish. I mean, make-up can only do so much, right? (That’s Cumberbatch to the right of the pic below, by the way). In any case, Clarke is best known to British movie watchers as an actor, as well as the writer/director of “4.3.2.1″ and “Kidulthood”. Cumberbatch, of course, is famous for playing Sherlock Holmes in the BBC’s rebooted “Sherlock” TV series, currently in its second season. Or, er, series, as they call it Across the Pond. He was also recently in Steven Spielberg’s “War Horse”. And no, he was not the horse. Abrams’ untitled “Star Trek” sequel, meanwhile, is scheduled to go into warp May 17, 2013. |

QUOTE First set photos from the ‘Star Trek’ sequel ![]() "Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Spock"? The first photos from the set of the sequel to 2009's "Star Trek" have leaked, and from what we can see it looks like it will be just as action-packed as its predecessor. What's more, the shots give us the first look at the villain from the film currently in production. The photos show Zachary Quinto and Zoe Saldana returning to the roles of Spock and Uhura, along with new cast member Benedict Cumberbatch, who plays their still-unnamed adversary. The actors were photographed while they rehearsed and shot a fight scene on a large exterior set in front of a green screen (the background will be added in later digitally). Benedict Cumberbatch is a British actor who broke out playing the lead role in "Sherlock," the BBC's modern-day Sherlock Holmes series. In 2011, he appeared in two critically acclaimed films: "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy" opposite Gary Oldman, and Steven Spielberg's Oscar-nominated "War Horse." It had originally been announced that Benicio del Toro would be the bad guy in the new "Star Trek," but after he dropped out of the project Cumberbatch was cast in his place. Little is known about the character Cumberbatch will play, but we can gather some clues from the photos. He appears to be wearing a black Starfleet shirt like Kirk wore in the first movie before he was made an officer. He's apparently strong enough to tussle with Spock, but his rounded ears would indicate he's not a Vulcan. And it looks like he made Uhura mad enough to blast him with her phaser (presumably set to stun, not to kill). Director J.J. Abrams and the cast from the last movie are all returning for the next installment, but it will not beam into theaters until May of 2013. |

Hey, where's the Khan? Title of Star Trek sequel ‘Into the Darkness'
http://sciencefiction.com/2012/09/09/star-...-into-darkness/ ![]() QUOTE After months of referring to J.J. Abrams’ sequel to ‘Star Trek’ as ‘Star Trek 2,’ Star Trek 12,’ the untitled ‘Star Trek’ sequel, it seems as there may finally be a title for the film. While not yet official, TrekMovie is reporting that sources close to the movie have confirmed that the previous untitled sequel will be called ‘Star Trek into Darkness.’ One thing noticeable to quite a few people about the title is the absence of a colon which has been prevalent in the past ‘Star Trek’ feature films. Historically, ‘Star Trek’ films have not done well overseas in non-English speaking markets, so Paramount has been testing a number of title possibilities to find something that would work worldwide. While the title gives no indication as to what the film will be about, it does coincide what Zachary Quinto and Chris Pine have said about the movie being bolder and having to deal with some serious issues. The promotional team for ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ is still working out how to officially unveil the new title and some think it will some soon in the form of a teaser poster or image. Now that a title has been released, here’s hoping that a teaser will soon follow and Trekkers will soon find out the identity of the mysterious villain that Benjamin Cumberbatch is playing. So what do you think of the title ‘Star Trek into Darkness?’ |

If someone can confirm that Cumberbatch is in the 9 minute preview, let us know. I'll run to IMAX 3D for that.
