Actually I heard from a persn (he himself also considered a supplire la) that there is only a handful of suppliers providing small animals to petshops. The ones that are not from suppliers are hobbyist and those hamsters only come in small amounts.

So if you got 2 hamsters that are about the same age, there's a big possibility that they are siblings or similarly related. Safer to buy 2 of a different age and a different place.

@Mike: This kinda thing is happening to petshops all over the place... And it reinforces the fact that syrians ARE solitary and just because we don't see them fight in petshops doesn't mean they don't.

Yeah.... But they're in that state cuz of people... They're really pitiful... Cannot sleep fitfully.. Will scared kena attack... And when getting attack, cannot find a place to run cuz the tank is only so small and confined... Sigh...

So sometimes when Ferro gets defensive, I don't feel angry at him cuz I understand his fear lor.

It's not a miracle that happens overnight mar. Patience. Wat is the symptoms of him being scared of you/ Run away? Hide, Get defensive and bare fangs?

You can try bribing it with food. I do that with mealies (although Ferro still wont take those from my hand). Sometimes fruits and vege also. Put lotsa food in the centre of your palm and wait VERY patiently for Colby to climb on your hand (which should be on top of the bedding) and eat it.

Let it get used to it for a few days. Then gently lift your hand a bit from the bedding. When he gets frightened he'll run down again. Wait for him to come back with your hand on the bedding again.

Love = patience + sacrifice.

You must remember, a hamster can breed every month. He sold his last batch off at 4 weeks old, meaning he did let the male and female breed right after, never let her rest. Poor hamster.... I guess she is gonna die young from overbreeding.

since many pet stores like to put more than 1 syrian in a tank, i would like to ask, does pet shack do the same?
i'm aware that sometimes its more of a space and cost issue instead of people not knowing or not caring

Pet Shack do put more than one syrian in one tank but only for babies as they haven't be as solitary as adult syrian (4 months old). On top of that, Pet Shack do not take in big quantity and she separate males and females. I also saw her try to separate the older syrians to only 1 or 2 in a tank when the syrian still not sold. One she is still keeping till now. In her own tank with Wodent wheel, eat smoothie everyday. Having good life. Even they are a smaller pet shop, their space not allow them to have each and every syrian have own tank and Wodent wheel ler.

Yup. Let's agree that it is not possible for any petshop to give one tank to a single syrian. Plus the hamsters in Pet Shack are well taken care of wat. I think that's good already. Better than many other petshops.

Patience, YES, definitely! I finally make a miracle in my life, both my robos RUSH to reach my palm and search for mealies DESPERATELY every night, muaaahahaaahaaa!

I've been spending at least 1, to 4 hours every night, for three whole week to feed them food and to touch them sometimes.

It's time for me to dominant another breed. Syrians!

Actually, I wanna say something but I hope I don't offend anyone here lah.

Sometimes I feel that if people were willing to spend more to buy hamsters, I am sure more pet shops would separate their syrians. It's all a matter of cost. At the end of the day, shop keepers still need to eat ma.

For example, if a shop separates syrians into each individual tank, feed fresh foods and Prestige and give 8inch wheels to each hammi, but sell their hammies at RM60 each, would you pay?

It's all very easy to say that a lot of pet shops don't care and treat the animals bad but yet they will not pay if the animals are well treated but are priced higher.

At the end of the day, I guess what I am trying to say that the buyers who are not willing to pay for 'well-treated' animals are also at fault.

I am not pointing fingers at anyone here but I am pointing out what I have noticed.... Sorry, if I have offended anyone yah.
