QUOTE(callmevil @ Oct 14 2008, 05:07 PM) lol what they didnt mention maybe is.. its easier to bottom the svs than the spl.. haha Really, Could it be, u hv calibrated ur sub a trifle hot?? QUOTE(arj @ Oct 14 2008, 08:06 PM) But then again, the SPL is over RM2k more expensive compared to your SVS when compared using Malaysian prices. Cepat2 get the Ultra so that you can do another round of comparison Now I dont tink de Ultra is musical, either .. even SvS knows tat .. if u wan a musical sub , u r better off wif de sealed SBS..

I guess it's the same setting as "Both" in Yamaha, and "Double Bass" in Onkyo. My advise is to use the "LFE+Main" only if you have a full range/band front speakers. It means the crossover setting will not be applied to the front speakers, and if there's a LFE channel it will be sent to both the front speakers and the subwoofer. For Onkyo, you can even select the "Double Bass" if your fronts not set as "Full Band". Added on October 16, 2008, 10:07 amTHE L.Y.N. I almost forgoten that i'm supposed to upgrade my sub. I think i'm running out of poison in upgrades ..
Oh yea, about the LFE to both or just sub. Crossover is always there where the LFE will automatically be channeled to the sub. By running in mains+sub you're acctually forcing the the mains to churn out to it's limits. (am I wrong?) If you set it to just sub, anything below the crossover will be transfered to your sub. (correct?) If you find that your mains are not strugling in the lower freqs then run both, it tends to feel wider. I set mine to SUB only thou.
htkaki, you going to run double cht12r in near future??

No, I am going to use my near-to-death sub at the back (apparently, it is ok a bit now ) and CHT-12R at the forefront. I set 1800 at 'LFE + Main' as my floorstanders can go real low and it integrates well.

Only full range speakers can be set as "Large" or "Full Band" so that no LF crossover is done. Full range speakers mean it can produce the lowest frequencies, at least down to 30Hz. With this speaker, you theoretically don't need a subwoofer anymore as they can handle the LFE and you don't have to do any LF crossover to it. But even with this speaker, subwoofer can still be used to add more punch and grunts to the bass, especially for movies. This is when you must set the AVR as "LFE+Main". Do not set "LFE+Main" if your front speakers are not full range, it will hurt the speakers. Set "Small" speakers, and set "LFE" only on Denon, "SW Only" for Yamaha. For Onkyo turn off "Full Band" and "Double Bass" will automatically be turned off. Added on October 17, 2008, 11:42 amTHE L.Y.N. Getting Started

|
i tot we normally set to LFE only, which just let the sub to handle the lows, which means the sub will only do work when a low frequency hit the notes, and stop working when no real low.. this is to take advantage of a more clearer vocal and much more cripsy sound from the front pairing...especially u have a full range front speaker...
if u set it to MAIN + LFE, den the the front pairing will throw out everything together with the sub woking full load...which resulted a loud but rather rojak noise...lack the precision

It's just that if you have full range speakers, you can. This comes back to each own's listening taste, some people like more bass. My main point here, if you don't have full range speakers, don't select "LFE+Main", just select "LFE" only and set the proper crossover. This will avoid your speakers from trying to produce the low frequencies that it can't do, thus avoiding damage. This post has been edited by aiman04: Oct 17 2008, 04:38 PM
