Hi all, in 6 weeks or few months time, AMD/ATI will be launching codename R700 A.K.A HD4870 X2 graphics card which consists of two (2) HD 4870 GPUs and with 1GB of GDDR5 memory on the other hand it also has the Processing power of over 2 TERAFLOPS .

i think r700 is gtx280 killer.
price maybe below rm1.9k and maybe better than 2x4870. but have to wait till august for available in market. |

Some info i remember for R700
1) It use GDDR5 memory for dyal RV700 "to talk to each other " 2) No longer use PLX chip as bridge 3) Stuttering issue is no more by using GDDR5 anyone remember the bandwidth for PLX chip vs GDDR5 chip..please post the numbers |

Anyway, to discuss of future product might be a little odd. Anyway, we can expect from current performing 4850 CF to measure 4870X2. Bear in mind that 4870 is about 1.3 times the 4850.

the power delivery system is quite impressive on 4870x1. the 2nd generation plx chip should be generation, hopefully this would remove the pci-e bottleneck effect on 3870x2,
btw what cooler would amd provide this time. |

2900XT is quite expensive but when compare to 8800GTS it is still cheaper though, but now AMD/ATI is aiming at mid range market, rest assure there would be a lot of affordable and powerful graphic card available to more end user........
Radeon i think slayer meant 4850CF, both have different memory architecture, in this case 4870X2 have some serious advantage here when compare to 4850 even in crossfire mode. |

I think proc AMD only concentrate on business.From what i HEAR Opterons are better than Xeon Eh??

Im also curious about PSU needed to power up 2 x 4870X2. I've already reads one of the article tat stated 1000w psu should be enough to power tat setup. But it not stated clearly either tat review is 4 normal use or overclocker use.

does the 2 gpu on this 4870x2 shares the same common memory pool or both have independent memory for rendering?

i dun think RM250 goin to make a good dual slot cooler for RV700 looking at how hot is 4870 now..........
3870x2 heat sink is actaully quite simple design, only solid block with fins, hope they took Asus 9600GT matrix design to their 4870 X2 with all those heat pipe and may be saphire own vapour chamber thing to bring the temp down |

earlier time saw they predict the price will be USD549
now AMD already very clear that their r700 will be on top of the market, I don't think they'll sell cheaper than GTX280.. or maybe will be slightly lower than the GTX280 after a while it's launched. the power consumption is lower than 2 pcs of 4870 running crossfire mode. have read the reviews, but don't know how true is it.. R700 with 2gb GDDR5 is not taking very big advantages because they only take very little higher than 4870 CF in most bench, some even lose to 4870CF.. 4870 is only using 512MB GDDR5.. Or what we can hope is their driver. Hope the upcoming driver will fix some problems.. |

I'm currently using CM Real Power M620. do u guys think it's enough for a single HD4870x2? My system is running on E6750@3.6Ghz one raptor HD and another x2 320Gb HD. Though from the first post, tomshardware stated that 650W is required. the M620 from CM is a good quality PSU, do u guys think it's alright?

usually x2 version is a bit expensive than 2 units of ?870. Takes 3870 for example, 2 units of 3870 is cheaper than 1 unit of 3870x2's price about rm200. So, I guess it is same for 4870 and 4870x2 case.

Because the design is different.Its like a Dual Core.But not really Dual Core,as AMD said they might provide a REAL DUAL CORE GPU in R800.Not Dual Dies in 1 PCB, but 1 Dies, 1 PCB, but has 2 Cores in 1 Dies

from the result it seems like 4870CF produces a better result than X2. Hum, might get another 1 4870 to form the CF rather than get 1 X2. But then the temperature is another issue.

True, you need a lot of space for 2 cards but fortunately, my casing is big enough for them. What i'm afraid of is the heat generated. My single R4870 if running without fan speed hack can easily hit 80~82C during idle. After applying the hack the temperature going down to 40~60 range (from idle to full load).

hmm dfi club i was there before hoping to get solution but now...
anyway they already identified the problem its the award bios incompatibility with all the x2 series and with gecube 3870 turbo x.. as long as your mobo run with award bios + x38 n x48 you might have some problem... so far for ami bios its not affected... |

finally able to make it POST and installed the driver. otherwise going get new mainboard.
my solution is flash back to first release BIOS 10. but i didn't try 11 and 12. for 13 and 14 tried no POST. |

btw, anyone found the 8.8 beta driver, when u GPU-Z then both GPU show up difference speed? and new 8.8 official driver show both same speed. and also the temperature also increased. for performance i don't know. |

Hi all.. Since the 4870 cards are able to flash to ASUS TOP bios.. do you think that if ASUS comes out with 4870X2 TOP edition, all the X2's can be flashed as well ?

helo bro...i got a 4870x2 recently...wow my godness...its rili HOT ....
83c in idle mode...hw could it be ??? i add 2 12cm fan to blow it ...jz drop to 73-75c ... my rivatuner2.9 cant detect tis card...ani 3rd party software can control the 4870x2 fan speed ?? thanks |

just to tell you even u use 10x 120mm fans blow the card also no use la, because the fan in the original only run 27% so how much cool air it will suck into?

according to some forums, this monster need for 12v rail need 41a for complete system. the Corsair TX750 PSU should more then enough to power this card up.

Sapphire 4870x2 user reporting in...
I have one question regarding of the fan speed, I already edit the xml profile to 50%, but in GPUZ it show 40% all the time, is it trustable? If not, how may I know that the fan is running at 50%? Thanks in advance |

m.. i put the fan 2000rpm but in GPU-z showed 28xxrpm (45%) in XML profile. 2800rpm is fine for me, the temp is 54c

another Sapphire 4870x2 user report in

CCC show how many GB of vram?
use GPU-z 2 check also, more accurate den everest. using 4870x2, u won't fell much different unless use high resolution display. in fact, in lower resolution, it sum time perform worst den 4850. |

(normal) 4, check the PSU 12v rail whether stable with multi tester when running 3D games. |
