Scope of work? It was everything under the sun for me back then. Doing installation, troubleshooting of IT equipment, preventive maintenance and occasional outstation projects every now and then. It was a good experience though. Started off with the usual desktop installation, troubleshooting, auditing and moved up to more complex stuff like server administration (AD, Exchange) and network security (routers, switches, firewalls).
IMO, it's always better to specialize after a few years depending on your interest. E.g for Network (AVAYA, Cisco, Nortel, Juniper), SAN (Brocade, EMC), Systems (Microsoft, Linux, Unix) since a specialist's salary will usually always be higher and more in demand in the market.
