IT Security? you mean in project/engineer base or Analyst (incident handling) base?

engineer - expert in Firewall, networking
- basic knowledge in Unix, Windows environment and LAN, WAN environment

Analyst - fair knowledge in networking, firewall, LAN & WAN environment
- good in Unix, Windows environment
- good in incident handling (CISSP, GCIH, CEH, CISA etc....)

CCNA, CCNP and CCIE is mainly focused on Cisco based range of products which normally used by big enterprises who have the financial capabilities to maintain their server. As far as im concerned is that other products such as Nortel, Alcatel, Huawei etc are emerging as well which give more economical and budget solutions to its customers (damn...). I believe Singapore shall be a very good market for network engineers who studies CCNA onwards.

Just to ask, if i am interested to have a Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) cert, will i need to complete the exam listed here at http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/ce.../mcts.aspx#tab2 ? How it works? does it mean that if i were to have a MCTS cert for windows techonologies, then i will have to finish the 15 exam listed under windows technologies?

Is a MCTS cert itself enough to secure a good job??

Every exam you sit in the the following list,

http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/ce.../mcts.aspx#tab2

you will have a MCTS: ......

only the first paper will give you an extra MCTS cert without specification.

Hello all,

I'm interested in Application Development especially for Database. Do you think taking the path of Certificate in Visual Studio .Net Framework is alright?

I finished my degree last year and currently working in non-IT job but have been building mini database project via Access for the last 3months, which I found challenging and want to explore more.

Any view is welcome.

Fresh grad is fresh grad. The pay will be fresh grad rate. Having more cert means you get hired more easily.

Work experience still the most important to employer.

All the cert start to be very valuable when you jumping to another job smile.gif

System engineer gets the best of both worlds. But then again, it depends on your company and the projects and client deals they manage to acquire. I would probably say somewhere ranging from 1.6k - 2.5k. I would say probably slightly above 2k if you have CCNA.

Scope of work? It was everything under the sun for me back then. Doing installation, troubleshooting of IT equipment, preventive maintenance and occasional outstation projects every now and then. It was a good experience though. Started off with the usual desktop installation, troubleshooting, auditing and moved up to more complex stuff like server administration (AD, Exchange) and network security (routers, switches, firewalls).

IMO, it's always better to specialize after a few years depending on your interest. E.g for Network (AVAYA, Cisco, Nortel, Juniper), SAN (Brocade, EMC), Systems (Microsoft, Linux, Unix) since a specialist's salary will usually always be higher and more in demand in the market.

All the best in your career! thumbup.gif
