shouldn't it be 1 year?? unsure.gif

for diploma, you really do need to call the Bar Council and ask them
unless you are from the few local universities which exempt you from taking CLP
there's no way to skip it
even if you do not want to do CLP, you still have to take the UK BPTC
which is also about 9months of studies
after you pass your exam only you will be entitle to do your pupillage

17.0 What are the subjects required for the law degree to be recognised by the Qualifying Board in Malaysia?

The law degree SHALL contain a minimum of 12 substantive law subjects,

The 12 law subjects, SHALL include the following 6 core- subjects:
a. Law of Contract
b. Law of Torts
c. Constitutional Law
d. Criminal Law
e. Land Law, and
f. Equity and Trusts

Each of the core-subjects above, SHALL be studied for the duration of one academic year and candidates must have passed all the core-subjects mentioned above.
18.0 Can I specifically specialise into Business Law?

A simple answer would be 'it depends' on what is meant by Business Law. Does it specifically relate inter alia to the law governing businesses, contract, commercial and other laws incidental to business such as those governing interest of creditors(involuntary or voluntary), business premises, etc? Therefore, it seems that Business Law covers a wide variety of core and elective subjects and its syllabus differ accordingly.

Normally each of these are studied as a subject on its own but sometimes it tend to overlap. Therefore, the scope and depth of the subject law students read are different from those taking a business degree.

Such a specialisation can be made by selecting relevant elective subjects in combination with other core or elective subjects.

However, there are institutions that offer LLB (Business Law). It is not exactly business law per se but the compulsory electives (options paper) will be inclined towards Business Law subjects such as Commercial Law, Company Law, Employment Law, etc. These subjects differs accordingly as it is subject to the syllabus of specific institutions.

As long as the papers for the LLB (Business Law) satisfy the requirements of the Qualifying Board and it was awarded from a recognised institution, then there should not be a problem with regard to recognition.
19.0 Are there any specific English language requirement for legal studies?

Normally the requirement for undergraduate level is at least a 6.5 overall band score for IELTS. However, for the Bar Vocational Course, there is a requirement of at least a 7.5 in all 4 modules for IELTS. Northumbria's policy for the BVC is an 8.0 minimum for the speaking category alone with at least a 7.5 overall band score. Masters programme normally require a 7.0 overall band score for IELTS.

There may be exemptions and it is best to obtain more information from the respective institutions. Moreover, the English language requirement above is merely a guidance as it may differ from institution to institution.

Anyone here doing the LLB course via distance learning while working? How are you coping with your studies and work? Would you recommend going for Scheme A (4 subjects per year for three years) or Scheme B (3 subjects per year for four years)?

A Business Law major is not necessarily an advantage in terms of future prospect. If you don't go to law school, you could join a law firm as a paralegal, but this is the non-legal grunt work that the lawyers don't want to do.Major in something else. How about Finance or Marketing? Then if you don't go to law school, you will have something more solid to start a working career. But back to the question, yes it is recognized but you wont go far with business law. smile.gif

Hello, i am curious whether MMU LLB is recognised by the legal qualifying board or not? Some said LLB graduates from MMU can exempt their CLP by taking a course. In case cnt be exempted, do they meet the entry requirements to sit for CLP?

This may be useful.

MMU students will have to undergo an intensive course on conveyancing practice and legal opinion writing and drafting before they may be called.

Do you get a law degree from it? If you are planning to have a career as a lawyer, be sure to check with the Bar Council as to the recognition given to your degree. Gluck. smile.gif

Hi. Could anyone let me know.

Did CIMB or MAYBANK offer a scholarship
for law foundation students to pursue LLB in United Kingdom?
If yes, could anyone show me the link?

Correct, better double confirm with the CLP PIC if u really wanted to practice. As far as I concern, the recognised pre u are A-levels, STPM and Matriculation (Malaysia). If you dont have any of these, I doubt if u can enrol CLP class and to be a practicing lawyer.

What if I had a recognised Degree from IPTS and I only had SPM? Am I eligible for CLP??

1st Ques... before u get a recognised degree... u must have gone through some sort of pre-university programme such as STPM, UEC, Malaysian Matriculation, A-level... so... what did u do for ur pre-u? Other than those mentioned above, so far I never hear a successful case to qualify for CLP examination. Although in BAC website there stated AUSMAT, NZ bursaries.. etc see
http://www.bac.edu.my/ choose Programmes @BAC-->Postgrad Program --> CLP --> Entry Requirement

But I doubt if there is any successful case.

p/s O ya... exception.. working adult with relevant working experience. This happen to one of my fren.
