Hmm, obviously it's advisable to come from a reputable university but then again, for those who choose to do it in a local uni, i dun c the problem since there r also a lot of lawyers who r from local uni who did not have to take CLP since they r already exposed to M'sian law.

My 2-cents to M'sians who want to be lawyers. This is roughly the route:

SPM -

STPM/ A-Levels -

LLB - Local University (4 years) - 9 months chambering - Called to the Malaysian Bar.

or

LLB - UK/Aus/NZ/ External UOL (3 years - although I have heard that it is usual to do a double degree in Australia to accompany the LLB) - CLP or Bar Vocational Course (Soon to be Bar Professional Training Course) (Called to the Bar of England and Wales) - 9 months chambering - Called to the Malaysian Bar.
or

LLB - 1+2 or 2+1 Twinning Programs - CLP or Called to the English Bar - 9 months chambering - Called to the Malaysian Bar.

Extra Notes:
1. Requirement for UOL external LLB is 2:2 to sit for the CLP while its 3:1 for the rest of the overseas degrees (I have heard that a pass may suffice but for now, some UK internal students have informed me that it's a 3:1).
2. Requirement for acceptance into the BVC/BPTC is 2:2. There is an online procedure for applying for a place and in this time and date, it has become very difficult to even secure a place, let alone sit for the course.
3. Difficulty of obtaining a LLB differs from place to place. For obvious reasons, some are easier than others. I will not be listing them lest I may sound unpatriotic or bias towards certain arrangements.
4. CLP - ~20% passing rate.
5. BVC/BPTC - ~40-60% depending on students' ability for the academic year.
