No, it is not a recognised qualification for purposes of a 'qualified person' under s.3 of the LPA.

Anyway it is the LPQB or 'Qualifying Board'.

:-)

what about the UK degree transfer programme of law in HELP?is it recognised by the Qualifying Board?

The degree that you obtain as a consequence of transferring(by way of a UK degree transfer programme from HELP) to a recognised English or Welsh University will probably lead to a recognised degree. The proviso is primarily due to the technical requirements of the Qualifying Board that has been stated in the 1st page.

I would like to ask if anyone knows whether you can do your BVC in an Australian University if you only obtain a 3rd class in your UOL LLB? I believe UK BVC requires a 2:2 minimum.

That's the question I was asking previously - whether there are other options for UOL graduates to go into legal practice without a 2:2.
Apparently, the answer is NO, whether locally or abroad.
Malaysia only recognizes the UK Bar. To be eligible to do UK Bar, you still need a 2:2 minimum.

Hi ..ive just finish my llb uol (external) and got a third class honors with just short of 2 marks for me to obtain a 2:2

i've considered to appeal to uol or request them to remark my papers but i heard the success rate of the appeal so far is minimal or near to zero

i've been working as a litigation clerk in a legal firm for 3 years. Does this in anyway help in my appeal?

No, your working experience does not help your appeal, as the examiners will solely base their considerations on your overall results. Im not sure how much the appeal costs, but if minimal, just try...nothing to lose at this point since it is unlikely you will get anything lower than a third.

The Qualifying Board does not limit its recognition to the English Bar.

It doesn't work the same way in Australia and I am very sure that they do have a course called the BVC. Considering that you're referring to the BVC, I would assume that you're thinking of qualifying as a barrister. In that regard, I could say that I've heard of the Bar Reader's Course in Australia. :-)

By recognition, I mean 'being able to practise law in Malaysia without sitting for the CLP' or 'being exempted from sitting for the CLP.

Does the Qualifying Board recognizes other qualifications (eg. from Australia) besides that from the UK Bar?

Yes they do.

Also a correction to my previous post. The English Bar is not recognised by the Qualifying Board. It is recognised by the LPA under s.3.

Hey, from the aspect of price, obviously BAC offers the cheapest one as compared to Taylors,HELP,INTI and KDU.
I did my UK transfer with BAC and leaving to UK this September. It also provides you with quite a number of choices.
Currently, they have Aberyswyth, Cardiff, Hertfordshire, Oxford Brookes, Northumbria, Exeter, Liverpool and Reading in partnership with them.
If you are looking forward to transfer into Manchester or Leeds, you may want to choose HELP.

I wouldnt say its a tough one. The most important thing is that you must attend the lectures.
