QUOTE(snipersnake @ Dec 10 2010, 11:28 AM) 500gb is HUMONGOUS. To be honest, without any data shove in it, it's still not 500GB being allocated. There's seems to be less than that...Anyway, 500GB works fine and is definitely enough for me. Period. I have lots of HD movies, pictures, PSN and psone games, game saves, and still I have 270gb of free space QUOTE(shankar_dass93 @ Dec 10 2010, 10:38 PM) now i have a big problem, i tried to use my external hdd to back up my files and its not working......damn What problem are you encountering? Care to elaborate? Maybe there's someone that can help you with it. QUOTE(wah chai @ Dec 19 2010, 01:33 AM) hi all, i want upgrade/change my ps3 hdd. can i know what kind of hdd i should buy to upgrade/change? mobile/laptop/notebook hdd or other kind/type of hdd ? The PS3 is compatible with just about any 2.5-inch SATA notebook hard disk. Both 5400-RPM and 7200-RPM drives should work fine. I went for 5,400-RPM because I couldn't find any with 7,200-RPM. Works fine for me till today. QUOTE(wah chai @ Dec 19 2010, 11:43 AM) ok.ide or sata ? Answer will be SATA. what is ssd ? A solid-state drive (SSD) is a data storage device that uses solid-state memory to store persistent data. SSDs are distinguished from traditional hard disk drives (HDDs), which are electromechanical devices containing spinning disks and movable read/write heads. SSDs, in contrast, use microchips which retain data in non-volatile memory chips and contain no moving parts. Excerpt quoted from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solid-state_drive Think of it as a BIG ARSE FLASH DRIVE! |

i just upgraded my hdd to 500gb. some of noob prob. i did backup from my old hdd to external drive which ate 56gb. i assume that including 'everything' such as videos, musics & most importantly a game utility data. however after done a swap hdd process & did a restore on a new hdd. i saw no game utility data on my main acc even i did sign-in & everything, but the i checked the hdd space, it seems already ate 50++gb after restored. videos, musics & game saved data is there but where's my game utility data?? do i need to reinstall every games again? (like GT5 which took 5gb or something).
about the game update, DLC & PSN, seems i get to redownload them again i supposed? need some1 to clarify this, or did i just made something wrong on recovering my backup files? |

It is not necessarily a "clean" external hard disk drive (HDD). You can use the one that you have stored some data in the said HDD. The system will create a file for backup from the PS3 to your HDD. Please make sure it's 2.5" HDD that you are getting. QUOTE(the_goonerz @ Dec 28 2010, 01:09 PM) do i need to reinstall every games again? (like GT5 which took 5gb or something). There's no need for re-installation if you already installed previously. If I'm not mistaken, once you press install for any game that you had installed, there will be a prompt window stating that you have already installed and a new installation is not needed. This post has been edited by Joey Christensen: Jan 22 2011, 02:31 PM |

QUOTE(faidzal1982 @ Jan 24 2011, 10:54 PM) If 500mb was the max recommended, Sony would have been in hell by now.... To the question: As big as you want it to be, as long as it fits. Infact, I've used a 1TB HDD (3.5") connected to my older PS3 before just by attaching the sata cable to the sata connector inside. Doesn't look nice, but whatever... I needed space more than looking "cool". |
