Is it this screen that u were having? Usual instructions: 1. Download the latest Firmware form the playstation website 2. Create the following folder structure on a (FAT32 formatted) USB stick: - PS3\UPDATE 3. Copy the Firmware file (PS3UPDAT.PUP) into the UPDATE folder 4. Insert the USB stick into the PS3 and follow the on screen instructions (Press the START and SELECT at the same time) since ps3 cant detect update file... redownload firmware again...and also try another usb stick strange...

try plugging the ps3 controller to the usb cable... i read somewhere abt it
From some forum in US... I recently updated my 40GB PS3 to an 80GB hard drive. I had a similar problem in that the screen would stay connect a usb cable to the controller and press the PS button. I did that and the controller would just flash so I resetted the controller. A message popped up saying that "the system can't be restarted so the hard drive must be reformatted", so I downloaded the latest update to my flash drive and made a folder and put the update in it. I restarted the PS3by pressing start and select and plugged the flash drive in and it reformatted the hard drive and updated the firmware update.

QUOTE(ikan_semilang @ Aug 19 2010, 12:36 PM) Guys, what purposed upgrading a bigger size harddisk? Thinking want to get 500GB but not sure yet. Let says i'm backup from original harddisk PS3 120GB into portable harddisk, what item will be backup? And then if i'm take out the new harddisk and put a new console...it's still can access? bigger hdd = more contents if u decide to take the existing ps3 hdd and put it into another ps3, it will asked for reformat.

QUOTE(kayuwoody07 @ Jul 5 2011, 02:59 AM) Uh I went and did something dumb. Didn't back up my data and I went and plugged my PS3 HDD into my PC. Was going to try to clone my 120 GB to my new 500 GB, and hey it should've been a straightforward thing, 2 SATA drives what could go wrong? Turns out it's encrypted, and Windows helpfully overwrote the MBR. Am I pretty screwed? Any way to recover the PS3 HDD without losing my save data? why no backup? again... a costly decision.... since ps3 data on the hdd is using sony proprietary format (hence its encrypted for each system) pretty much screwed you gonna lose all that data i'm sure the ps3 would ask for hdd reformat
