QUOTE(SSJBen @ Jan 24 2011, 11:58 PM) If 500 mb was the max recommended, Sony would have been in hell by now.... To the question: As big as you want it to be, as long as it fits. Infact, I've used a 1TB HDD (3.5") connected to my older PS3 before just by attaching the sata cable to the sata connector inside. Doesn't look nice, but whatever... I needed space more than looking "cool". hahaha... my mistake... wat i mean was 500 GB... so there is no limit for the size is it... i just wonder... when u install 1TB... is there any performance issue? such as slow loading of games, etc...

just changed my 40GB HDD to 500GB..at first quite panic also as the blue screw badly damage and really tough to open (a lesson for me not to use bigger screwdriver and must rotate very gently)
brought to Bernard GS and he managed to open the main screw..then the rest I changed by myself and just pluck the blue screw in without rotating it..hope it will well attach (there's already four screws locking the HDD)

Was using a 7200RPM drive, to be more specific I was using a Samsung 1TB F1... which was arguably the fastest 1TB HDD at its time (it's still fast today). So no performance issue at all.

juz upgraded mine from 120G to 500G....
no significant problem occur during upgrade, just it takes a very long time restoring the ps3 with the back up external hard disk... around 4 hours.
i`m using Samsung 2.5 inch SATA, bought around RM160.
Added on January 27, 2011, 7:56 pmreminder;
for formatting ur hard disk to FAT32 (PS3 wont recognize any other format NTFS,ExFat etc) i strongly suggest use EASEUS Partition Master. this software can format even my 500Gig under 1 minute!

You need a FAT32 formatted drive for your PS3.

PS3 won't recognize ur harddisk if the format is NTFS, FAT32... use EASUES software to format to FAT32... if u got extra cash, just buy a new hard disk with larger capacity...
