set both pj and dvd upscale at 720p via hdmi...

but why on some films i see jagged lines, esp on diagonal stuff that is in the priceture?...eg, house roofs, wire cables....i thought the processing of the pj or dvdp could minimise this jagged staircase effect?

Finally I've officially joined the HD65 club as of 28 September 2008 hehe. Got the unit from htkaki liao. hehehe.

Got the PJ on Sunday. This morning 2am only started it up. Was bz sorting out some stuff in the house, today got small renovation hehe. Will post some pics later as the house very messy now. Tested for a few hrs and I m very happy with it hehe. No BDs to try out yet but played some 720p materials on PC. A lot of calibration work to be done hehe. But image was very nice out of box biggrin.gif

Slept at 5.15am this morning and have to wake up and work today. Feel like s*it now hehehe.

There will still be jaggies but minimal if the 480p / 576p source is being upscaled. There is improvement in PQ after upscale but not dramatic. Most would go for BD or dl HD movies for better enjoyment.

Bright eh... A lot of ppl thought it would be very dim like those at mamak stall. Hope the perception of many ppl out there would change smile.gif . Then again, need to expose them to HD pj in order for them to change their mindset brows.gif .

Proud to say that I ve managed to convince a number of them tongue.gif

My Story with HD65

Bought my Optoma HD65 from htkaki 3 months ago , it was a complete set with the screen and the cables. I was more than happy as the price was reasonable compared to a PJ shop which quoted me almost RM3K more for the same package. Installation also been arrange by htkaki which was done neatly with high-tech laser guidance system to arrange the PJ and screen accurately, no joke!

I watched my first movie '300' and to my disappointment the worst nightmare struck me, THE RAINBOW EFFECT. After watching for 10 minutes or so i was getting very uncomfortable eye strain. I read about the effect in the forums, and they say only 5% of population will experience it , well i thought 'nah' what are the chances and went on buying the PJ. I played other movies, same pain and later invited my friend to watch it but he didn't felt the effect. So that confirms, and i'm so damn F***ED doh.gif . Luckily after googling i found someone posted in one of the forum giving a solution. To my relief after tuning HD65 with his configuration the effect was gone for good. rclxm9.gif

I hooked up Philip HTS3366 home theater system and Wii to the HD65, everything just fitted nice in my budget. Sound and video was excellent. The HD upscaling feature saves my day with my xvid movies and tv-series. I don't notice any big difference in quality when i play DVD and DivX from USB. I know it would make a lot of difference with Bluray and .mkv but that have to wait, i rather watch good movies in cinema.

I would say the PJ and Wii combo is the holygrail of entertainment. To tell you the truth i'm not gamer, and never really liked playing PS games that have to use very hard joystick controls. It was very simple with Wii, which was using motion movements. The just released Starwars: forces unleased gives you to hold the light saber in your hand, imagine swinging light saber and fighting your opponent on a big screen thumbup.gif . Skiing with Balance board, Golfing, Table tennis and the list goes on.

I feel sorry for those who are spending alot of bucks for the LCD and Plasma . If for once they feel the experience with PJ, there will be no turning back to LCD/plasma craps. Almost all my friends impressed with my 82inch PJ setup, they all had the same misconception seeing the PJ quality on mamak restaurants, i had it too once. whistling.gif

My final word, no regrets rclxms.gif Thanks to htkaki for making it affordable icon_rolleyes.gif

Glad the HD Projector worked out fine for you vyzar. I experience RBE also. Mind sharing what setting you did to HD65 to get rid of the RBE?

Thanks biggrin.gif

This i have to disagree with you.projector is nice, yes, but in a room without any light source.imagine yourself living in a mansion with 10 feet window everywhere, how would a projector fit in those places? that is where lcd/plasma comes to life and makes pj crap.i only put my projector in my dedicated HT room for my family, where as in the hall, upstairs hall, kitchen, garden i have plasma and lcds everywhere. so plasma and lcd isn't crap after all biggrin.gif

Hi Toytoy

Here is the setting that i copied from a forum, sorry i don't have the original link. If it works for you then the credit should go to the actual contributor, not me.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
First off zero brilliant color, zero True Vivid, and using PC gamma which came closer to 2.2reference gamma.

HDMI/720p
Cinema
contrast -7
Brightness -6
Color 10
Tinit 0
Sharpness 0

Advanced Degamma PC
BC 0
TV 0
CT warm
AI off

RGB gains/bias
RG 0
GG -5
BG -7
RB -1
GB -1
BB 0

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The contributor also mentioned the lesser the contrast the lesser the RBE effect, not sure why but it works for me.

Wish you good luck icon_rolleyes.gif

Thanks for the settings vyzar, will try it out later hehe.

I m currently projecting the image on my wall. The image looks ok and sharp and bright but when i view videos which does not fill up the screen e.g. 2:35:1 videos. i get black bars on top and bottom of screen which is not 'black'. That means it is like 2 washed out black bars on the wall. This will improve if i use a proper screen? Coz its a bit distracting seeing them biggrin.gif

Onto the screen, i will be getting my DIY screen which consists of a frame and plywood tomorrow. I m thinking will it be better if i paint the plywood black and wrap it with normal white cloth. This way will the black paint absorb the lights and will the image look good? or the lights will still be reflected from the white cloth?

Go on short holiday only, kena left and right laugh.gif sneezing non-stop.

Taikor, that's the pj installer guy lah. Not me blush.gif Vyzar, and hackwire's setup are done by this guy, who is a pro installer. He is charging RM380 for the work. Aint getting any commission out of it. But, I knew that he really does a good job.

If you want, do let me know. It can be arranged. As for you in JB, maybe needs to pay a tad more tongue.gif
