how the fan noise for the hd65?? is it really2 quiet...coz i have a 4805...freakin loud....hehe

not sure if i've asked this...but hows the fan noise for this model? coz i normally have to place my pj on a coffee table in front of me since cant hang it...so fan noise is one big factor for me...

read somewhere that it's not really whisper quiet...what u guys think?

my first impression on this pj is that the blacks are not as good as my old 4805...but maybe i havent really found the correct setting to get good blacks...

how do you guys tweak your sets? For dark / night scenes are the pics good?

just watched batman begins again...and i think i'm seeing more 'rainbows' now with this than my old 4805...but luckily it's not that bad...

i still have some problems on the skin tone for some scenes...seems a bit too yellow orange-y to me...must tweak more i guess...any advice?

so lazy to do tweak nowadayslah coz just wanna enjoy movies now......haha

brightness setting now has never been above 0...is this high? sometimes i reduce it a bit to -5, depending on type of film and ambient light conditions...colour sometimes i reduce to -12 to make it less yellow/ orange but it'll kacau the reds pulak....damn...a bit lot with all this colour tweaks lah

and i use a cap ayam upconvert player now that can upconvert using component, no hdmi...funny some dvds i can upconvert to 720p, but some can't...like batman begins...it's an ori dvd...but no matter how i set, it'll go back to 576i...then i have to set to 576p...but this film icould never set to 720p...why ah? other films have no prob in upconversion.....any thoughts? or is it the dvd or pj? or coz it's cap ayam? hehe

how about contrast setting?

say if view at nite...no ambient light...set brightness to -3, contrast shud be at what setting??

wut's elite dvd upscaler?

hmmm...really need to upgrade my dvd player then...

but i'm actually happy with the pic quality of some films with it...and it's all depend on the source lah...if dvd title has poor transfer...upscale also wont improve much i think

btw -silly q... the pj itself...can it upscale?

AV show sells this model for like 4k++...so i guess htkaki is still your best source!

i have a feeling bulb price would kinds appreciate...unlike the pj....so yeah...use the pj until the bulb kaput...then upgrade the pj ler if u have money...

coz to me to get 3000 hours would take me like at least 4 years of usage...haha...so 4 years from now surely 1080p pjs will be very cheap...and most prob there'd be a higher res pj on the works already...maybe a 4K pj?

do update. i'm converting one room to an AV room and another one as a jamming studio - with full band set up - so really wanna have control on the sound / noise.

why is it on some movies, if i set my dvd to upscale to 720p and connect it to hd65 via hdmi...the jagged edge staircase effect on diagonal lines are still prominent (e.g shots of roof. pyramid) although the colours and depth on the movies are improved? But on some movies, there's no problem...

so a bit confused here...

set both pj and dvd upscale at 720p via hdmi...

but why on some films i see jagged lines, esp on diagonal stuff that is in the priceture?...eg, house roofs, wire cables....i thought the processing of the pj or dvdp could minimise this jagged staircase effect?

there will be improvement, but i think you're probably gonna miss that 4805's awesome Faroudja Dcdi processing capability a bit...used to have a 4805 and to me, back then that processor made most dvds to look and feel a bit more 'natural', with good contrast, depth and all...but since 720p is the way to the future, i got an hd65. Quite happy with it if i use it with an upscaling player...so yeah, no regrets.

my take: try to demo a good 720p player whenever possible. If u can, try to compare side by side with your 4805 for the colours, natural feel, skintone, contrast, etc with your own familiar dvd materials - interlaced, progressive or upscale - and let your eyes be the judge...

whats your settings on both this projector and for blu ray player to get the best 720p pic quality....i got confused will all the resolution / hz settings there...

i think this is probably the best...tried setting the bdp to 1080/60 but i got some weird electric lines on screen...

but i'm a bit confused coz when doing all these hdmi changes in both pj and bdp...the aspect ratio tend to change quite a lot...sometimes it becomes normal wide screen but sometimes bigger... (this is with that aspect ratio setting in pj set to 'auto')

will just try to play with the settings more i guess
