My Story with HD65

Bought my Optoma HD65 from htkaki 3 months ago , it was a complete set with the screen and the cables. I was more than happy as the price was reasonable compared to a PJ shop which quoted me almost RM3K more for the same package. Installation also been arrange by htkaki which was done neatly with high-tech laser guidance system to arrange the PJ and screen accurately, no joke!

I watched my first movie '300' and to my disappointment the worst nightmare struck me, THE RAINBOW EFFECT. After watching for 10 minutes or so i was getting very uncomfortable eye strain. I read about the effect in the forums, and they say only 5% of population will experience it , well i thought 'nah' what are the chances and went on buying the PJ. I played other movies, same pain and later invited my friend to watch it but he didn't felt the effect. So that confirms, and i'm so damn F***ED doh.gif . Luckily after googling i found someone posted in one of the forum giving a solution. To my relief after tuning HD65 with his configuration the effect was gone for good. rclxm9.gif

I hooked up Philip HTS3366 home theater system and Wii to the HD65, everything just fitted nice in my budget. Sound and video was excellent. The HD upscaling feature saves my day with my xvid movies and tv-series. I don't notice any big difference in quality when i play DVD and DivX from USB. I know it would make a lot of difference with Bluray and .mkv but that have to wait, i rather watch good movies in cinema.

I would say the PJ and Wii combo is the holygrail of entertainment. To tell you the truth i'm not gamer, and never really liked playing PS games that have to use very hard joystick controls. It was very simple with Wii, which was using motion movements. The just released Starwars: forces unleased gives you to hold the light saber in your hand, imagine swinging light saber and fighting your opponent on a big screen thumbup.gif . Skiing with Balance board, Golfing, Table tennis and the list goes on.

I feel sorry for those who are spending alot of bucks for the LCD and Plasma . If for once they feel the experience with PJ, there will be no turning back to LCD/plasma craps. Almost all my friends impressed with my 82inch PJ setup, they all had the same misconception seeing the PJ quality on mamak restaurants, i had it too once. whistling.gif

My final word, no regrets rclxms.gif Thanks to htkaki for making it affordable icon_rolleyes.gif

Glad the HD Projector worked out fine for you vyzar. I experience RBE also. Mind sharing what setting you did to HD65 to get rid of the RBE?

Thanks biggrin.gif

Hi Toytoy

Here is the setting that i copied from a forum, sorry i don't have the original link. If it works for you then the credit should go to the actual contributor, not me.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
First off zero brilliant color, zero True Vivid, and using PC gamma which came closer to 2.2reference gamma.

HDMI/720p
Cinema
contrast -7
Brightness -6
Color 10
Tinit 0
Sharpness 0

Advanced Degamma PC
BC 0
TV 0
CT warm
AI off

RGB gains/bias
RG 0
GG -5
BG -7
RB -1
GB -1
BB 0

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The contributor also mentioned the lesser the contrast the lesser the RBE effect, not sure why but it works for me.

Wish you good luck icon_rolleyes.gif

Something to share

My HD65 bulb blow after giving good 1900 hours of service. Seems there is only two options to get a replacement bulb that i know off;
1. www.vismart.com.my - bulb = RM570, service charge = RM80 , +++?
2. Ebay - bulb price ranges from RM240 - RM600+, shipment = ++

Vismart not open on weekends so i took the gamble to buy at ebay which turn out to be a good decision. Total cost came about RM360 (bulb=60GBP, shipping=10GBP). I received the bulb within a week from DHL. The new bulb looks exactly identical with my existing bulb. Here is the link http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...em=150861265250

The new bulb came without the casing so the replacing part was a bit challenging because the old bulb plastic casing has become "fragile" due to bulb heat. During the process I broke one power connector hook and one screw which was holding the bulb. After with much effort i manage to push the bulb casing back in the HD65 compartment. To my surprise it worked like charm, and the best part is the picture quality is way much better now. Actually the brightness and picture quality has faded over time on the old bulb but guess i did not notice it until i changed it with the new one.

Most probably i will change the next one with the casing and definitely way before it reaches end of life.
