what is the normal limit for a gold card cc?
*
really depends.. HSBC gave me M/C and visa 9k combined limit 5years ago.. then 2years ago they seperate the card limit.. so become 4.5k each..
so I was like WTF? charge me gold fees at 4.5k limit??? called them up 2mths ago to say I'm cancelling the card before the anual renewal due to such low limit, can't even do high transaction..
suddenly last week they send the letter saying increased limit for both..

anyway, I'm seen some statements before with 70-80k limit (gold) so from what I seen. maybe gold have range from 4k to 100k.. biggrin.gif

I don't think there's a 'normal' limit for CLs. There probably is a maximum but banks usually don't give out that information. I do know for a fact that Citibank does have a max limit on their Clear Cards; RM15k p/month.

As to Gold cards, well, I've been holding onto the DA Graduate Gold Credit Card for years and was given RM10k CL - never used that so didn't bother asking for an increase. HSBC offered me RM13k when I applied with them some time in Jan 08. And for those who'd been here, U'll also know that Citibank upgraded my Clear Card to a Gold card and gave me a measly RM7k credit.

@scoobie27,
There should be no hanky panky with the CL Standard Chartered offered. If U need a lot of CL then go ahead and get it. I didn't bother to get an additional CL for DA & HSBC cause those aren't my primary banks. I have since to-date been offered the HSBC Premier Mastercard & Citibank Platinum with both RM40k CL respectively.

To be honest, I don't even need so much CL since I don't travel abroad too frequently.

@scoobie27,
If u have been a long standing customer with the bank and have good payment record, I don't think the bank would have problems giving u additional CL - of course the banks will need to take into account making sure U can pay for those payment swiped smile.gif

U could always make the request smile.gif

one question for all. How different is AMEX today? Previously AMEX acceptance is very limited even though there's no pre-set limit. Today we have 2 flavors of amex the charge and and credit card.

How's the acceptance for amex nowadays? I never bothered to apply for amex since I always had in mind that few merchants take them.

Tesco, Giant, and some Petronas and Caltex stations accept Amex too. Only Shell can swipe at pump, the rest you need to ask the counter whether they accept or not.

Before platinum introduce, this AMEX is consider a luxurious or imej to any business users & yet they limited merchants. However since introduce of platinum, it really kills AMEX. So in order to achieve competitive advantage, nowdays AMEX tried to open more merchants that accept them. Mayb 1 or 2 years more, AMEX will be more flexible...

No offense but i really do not understand what you were trying to tell us. By the way, AMEX already have AMEX Platinum here in Malaysia for a long time. It's AMEX Platinum charge card. AMEX Platinum credit card is the new card. I am thinking of switching to Personal/Gold AMEX charge card next year.

Platinum is a status for every card inclusive of AMEX. It's the difference of status during the older times. Classic -> Gold -> Platinum.
Nowadays because of competitiveness, gold card is getting easier and easier to get thus to be fairer....most card's business is moving towards one card face. I.e. no color. You'll see that a lot of banks are no longer issuing "normal" classic card but instead lots of boombastic name cards.
The most luxurious card out there is still the "Black Card". Amex Centurion Card. It's by invitation!

Btw, AMEX used to charge the highest in terms of their merchant fees. Thus smaller shop hardly can afford or think it's not worth it.
Thus only the big shops have it thus considered luxurious. Because of the competitiveness in the market they have to lower down their merchant fees, but currently still charge th highest merchant fee followed by Diners than Visa. Master still charge the lowest.

Honestly, I don't care about all these status. So as long as the card can be used that's good enough for me biggrin.gif

True, but you'll be surprised that everyone has their own opinion which sometimes we find baseless but it's their thinking though.
I had a friend whose father mentioned he hated HSBC card. Upon asking why, he said that a lot of times when he spent big he got a call from HSBC for authorisation.
I was dumb folded as if it was me, I would be jumpy if they didn't even call. Maybe rich men thinking is unlike me.
I remember once when I bought my wifey a laptop and was waiting for SCB to call me. First time buying laptop and first time using big amount on cards so was expecting them to call for authorisation. However, their SMS confirmation only reach me 4-5hrs later.
I wonder what if I called back and bluff them that I never did that transaction. How would it be than?!

@b00n,
I find it weird for people to be upset if banks called them for verification. When I got my 1st credit card, the bank would call for verification when I swiped about RM1k. Now that I've a 'set' pattern, the bank doesn't call me unless it's a much bigger amount; or unless I'm using the card overseas. I just paid for dad's birthday dinner and that cost me slightly over RM1k but I never heard from Citibank. I did however hear from UOB when I was buying tea [I swiped about RM2k+ worth of tea then]

@bee993,
Yes the banks aren't too consistent about CLs. U can also call MBB to ask them to waive ur annual fee when it's time for U to pay biggrin.gif Most of the time [from what I hear] they do waive it for U.

anyone use Affinbank credit card ?

http://www.affinbank.com.my/news/030707.htm

KUALA LUMPUR - Affin Bank Berhad (AFFINBANK) became the first to cut its finance charge to a single digit, after it announced today that effective 31 August 2007, all its credit cards have a low 9.99% annual finance charge compared with 18% currently offered by most card issuing banks. In addition, the Bank also introduced 0% interest on balance transfer for up to 12 months.

The move marks yet another milestone in AFFINBANK's continuing endeavour to offer unique value propositions to consumers by developing products and solutions that best address their much felt needs.

'We are very proud to be the first to heed Bank Negara's latest move in giving incentive to credit card users to manage their debts properly by reducing the finance charge to a reasonable level,' said Dato' Sri Abdul Hamidy Abdul Hafiz, AFFINBANK Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer in a speech during a joint cocktail reception held for the clients, regulators and peers of AFFINBANK, Affin Islamic Bank Berhad and Affin Investment Bank Berhad.

'We have taken into account the needs and requirements of our customers and have deduced that good clients must be rewarded. At the same time, we are also encouraging customers to use credit card more widely yet responsibly. I must admit that making this effort profitable without burdening our card holders is a great challenge,' he added.

The lowest finance charge in the market is offered to all new and existing AFFINBANK card holders. To enjoy the new rate, they need to settle at least the minimum payment of their outstanding balance by the payment due date.

The latest move to cut the finance charge is also seen as a way to reward deserving customers who support the Bank. It works much in the same way No Claim Bonus (NCB) does for the motor insurance industry. In addition, the financial market is expected to benefit with lower provisions required from fewer non-performing accounts.

anyone know what is the finance charge of Bank Islam Card ? heard from friend that they don't have any ... blink.gif and i've check at their website but can't find any finance charge..donno if they change the term to something else

A few stuff about AffinBank credit card based on a few observation since my friend had it since the last couple of months.

- When you execute the BT, they'll assign you a separate account and this account share your credit limit. If you make any retail purchases then you'd have to pay to 2 different accounts when your bill is due. (This is a better system than most banks which mixes the BT and retail purchases and you'll have the problem of payment prioritisation.)
- The CS works only during office hours, you can't get hold of them after office hours. Probably those who travel overseas often would feel uncomfortable about this problem as if you happen to run into trouble with your card overseas + you are in a different time zone - you can't call your bank to help you. However should you lose your credit card then you have a dedicated round the clock number to call in to block your card.
- You can't execute payment for the credit card via GIRO transfer. The AffinBank GIRO transfer works only for their savings/current account. AffinBank does not have online banking facilities thus you would have to physically pay for your credit card @ the bank. The bank does have cheque deposit facilities and CDM but certainly no internet banking.

Probably the last item is the killer - you have no choice to make the trip to the bank to pay your credit card bills. With petrol prices up, online banking is an immediate popular choice for convenience.

been using affin cc & managed to 'park' all my maybank outstanding there, since affin interest rate is much lower. n they have rebates as well if u spend a lot every month. so i think u end up paying lot less that 9.99%. n furthermore, their bank is within walking distance from my office.

@donpapachino,
What kind of rebates do they give? I spend quite a bit on my CC bills but I also make full payment each month - are the rebates for those with outstanding payment or across the board?
