@David83,
Apparently it doesn't happen with all banks *shrugs*. I'd never had any problems of such so I can't quite comment about it. I do know that if it's been waived, I would have told the bank I'm gonna minus that figure from my total amount and just pay based on that new amount.

I see no reason Y I should be paying the bank extra $ - even though I probably be spending $ that month but muAHahAHhahA.. no interest to collect.. tongue.gif

I heard some people say its better to have a backup CC from different bank, but I would like to know how likely that a card from 1 bank cannot go through and we need to use card from another bank for transaction (excluding case where we have maxed out our CC limit)? Will it be okay if we just depending on 1 CC from 1 bank?

It doesn't happen often, but in the past few years it's happened twice to me. Give one card, cannot go through. Give another card, it's ok.

I think perhaps the merchant's terminal cannot connect to the server to get the approval code for the transaction.

So, yes I think having a 2nd card is useful. Also with a 2nd card you might have offers and discounts different from what the 1st card has.

There're couple of purpose of having another (second) CC:

1. Approval failure
2. 1st credit limit has been maxed out
3. Different statement date
4. Different gateway
5. Benefits/Discounts

Reason 5 doesn't really bother me in contrary. If not, I won't dump my HSBC, apply for Citibank or use my CIMB DA.

Thanks jchong, vin_ann and David.

So I think you all sure have 1 main CC right? So far are there any approval failure happen before? As I think banking technology nowadays are very advanced, so chances of this happening will be very very rare.

For me I only worry about point 1, the rest doesn't bother me.

I didn't face any approval failure with my main MBB cards. (touch wood). I guess that most of the transactions I made are local.

So far lately I've not experienced any approval failure. I think it rarely happens nowadays.

HSBC or UOB will be a good competitor for Citibank.

i got a questions, im earning more or less 48-50k per annum and i have submitted my pay slips and epf statements to UOB. they gave me a UOB One card with 4k cc limit. i been using this card for about 5 months alreadu and i dont understand why every time i request for a cc limit increase i get rejected. i been working for a year but i dont have a full year EA form. is that the reason why they are reluctant to increase my limit? i spend the max limit just to force them to increase my cc limit but still no results. can anyone give me any tips or tricks to increase my limit? the only reason why im keeping this card is because of the free annual fee and i like the statement date.

I think your card is less than a year and that's why they're reluctant to increase the limit.

I faced the same problem with my MBB Petronas Visa. I wanted to upgrade the limit with the justification on having another MBB Visa Classic that has been used for more than 6 months. Both cards are sharing the same credit limit.

The reason they rejected my application is that my card age is less than a year.

No ... UOB rewards point are not evergreen. Means, they have an expiry date unlike Citibank.

Just to add what David83 mentioned, you could also try to apply from other banks (e.g HSBC, UOB) and see what credit limit they give you. If the alternative banks give you more credit limit then you can consider terminating UOB if they still don't upgrade your credit limit after 1 year.
