Hmmm I thought we will not be charged since we owe them nothing?

Anyway what if I were to cancel my card and there are money in it?

@Shinichi
You can no longer use your card but the bank will not be automatically be refunded to you. Nor will you earn any interest on the extra money that you in your credit card account.

My examples came from some else I know and even I myself kept on receiving the monthly statement from AEON credit card although I have canceled it between 1-2 years ago. It's the same scenario - cancel card but you have overpaid. The bank will keep that money until you ask for a refund.

BTW ... I think I sent a letter to AEON requesting them to refund that cash but for many months they have never replied to my mail. Re affirms my opinion that I would not ever want to apply for an AEON credit card ever again. It's the worst credit card that I've ever used, PERIOD.

@jchong,
Er... I don't know about local banks credit card as I don't carry one *grins*  But well, to be fair to Citibank, they only failed me once!  Btw, I just found out the maximum credit limit given out on a Clear Card is RM15k.  Citibank's just reverted to me and told me I could opt out of the Platinum Card and get my Clear Card back but they wouldn't be able to give me the original credit limit offered with the Citi Plat.

So how so how?!  I'm travelling again these few days and if I do want to change back to my Clear Card, I've got to wait for them to process it, send me a new one.  In the meantime, what am I going to use to pay my bills?! *grins*  Also, I've got to reset the Citibank Online and all.. uGhh!!!!!!!!  mad.gif  Maybe I should just stick with the damn Citi Plat!
*
What a bl***y pickle Citibank has gotten u into. Since u need to use a CC, stick with the Citi Plat for the moment but at first opportunity, bail out!

I'm getting busier each day I'm afraid I may forget to call up the bank before my card expires. I don't want the bank to charge me RM500 only then I start to ask for waiver. When that happens I think it's too late to cancel the card. I'm a good paymaster, I pay up my all transactions within one week, hope they will give me the automatic waiver as they did with other cards.

I guess I should be applying for Direct access card since it's truly free for life with no strings attached since i'm planning to take up job overseas. I'm stuck, it's hard for me to move up at my current level in Malaysia at this age. What's worse, i'm underpaid.

@thtan,
Put a reminder somewhere so U won't forget to call the bank for a waiver.  If u do forget and if it does reflect on ur credit card bill, just call the bank and ask them if they can give u a waiver; if they do then good.  If they don't U can still choose to cancel the card - just pay up what ur owing to them.  Or, pay the RM500 fees *grins*
*
thtan,
I'm in your same position. I just don't want to spend the time, energy and stress level to request/negotiate/beg (whichever you want to call it) for the annual fee waiver. I'm moving all my cards and transactions to true free-for-life cards, except Amex. It's just a final time change to move my direct debit h/p, insurance, donations, etc.

@young_mane,
1) If the bank tells U ur annual will be waived provided 12 transactions are made, just make 12 transactions - it doesn't matter how much the value of the transactions are.

2) Yes U can alwiz convert retail purchases into instalment plans but the bank might charge u a fee - it's best if u checked details from ur bank smile.gif

@vin_ann,
I absolutely cannot understand what Ur trying to tell me re Maybank (tinkerbel's opinion) ??? *blur*

@hye,
After that 'painful' experience with AEON, I'm quite sure Ur not even gonna bother asking for that refund esp after U decided to pay ur credit card bill again! smile.gif

@jchong,
I probably could bail out of the Citi Plat - I suppose if I demanded they kept this Citi Plat account active whilst they processed the other card, they wouldn't say NO. Anyhow, I was really busy when Citibank called me yesterday and to keep matters simple, I told her I'll just keep this Citi Plat until point when they start charging me annual fees [muAHaHAhahAHahAHh] - she did tell me I could do that and they'll just revert back to the Clear Card then. Wrong move huh?

@vin_ann,
I never mentioned about MBB leh ! *knock ur head* tongue.gif

@bee993,
500 points onli so little. I rather let Citibank do more work by having to print my statement and sending it out to me by post *grins* but since I'm thinking of cancelling my card, perhaps I should just sign up so I could get that additional 500 points *grins*

I thought I emphasized that Citibank overcharges for overseas transactions? You have cards from other banks right? If you have too much money, pls let me know I will gladly give you my bank account no. rclxm9.gif

That day I called MBB for annual fee waiver. My anniversary will be next month, so I decided to give them an early call.

They said that they only could waive if it has been charged into the statement.

Hmmm... seems like the only way is to pay the remaining CC debts through counter when cancelling the card. I did this when I cancelled by HLB CC few months back.

@David83,
If U do call and they waive it, then U won't see it on ur bill. If u don't, then U will need to make adjustments on the bill. And as some have mentioned, U will still need to pay that portion for it to be re-credited back to ur account *which I find weird*....

My experience with HSBC was I didn't even pay that and a call for waiver just reversed the charge.
