upgrading firmware is possible to upgrade from 3.6mbps to 7.2Mbps.
Because what makes HSDPA different from HSPA and HSPA+ is only the modulation scheme, which is basically software codes.

That is why telco can upgrade from 3G->HSDPA/HSUPA->HSPA->HSPA+ in such a short time frame

i just sign up this package. let me give you a clearer pic.. pls correct me if i'm wrong..  blush.gif

when you sign up, u need to pay upfront rm150 and they will deduct rm30 for the next 5 months.
let say you sign up the rm48 package. then you just need to pay rm18 only for the first 5 months.
actually for the first 5 months, u still are paying rm48 each month, just that u already paying up-front rm150, so they deduct rm30 each month from there.
the maxis ppl told me that if i were to terminate the line anytime, i dun hv to give back the modem, but the rm150 upfront is not refundable.

i'm interested to subscribed to this maxis wireless broadband RM48 package. can anyone confirm, is it true i have to pay upfront RM150 and the next 5 months my bill will be RM18/month, also i can keep the free modem? no contract period? anyway, how's the speed? thank you rclxms.gif

Yes, I got mine yesterday evening. If you opt for the 1.5GB package with modem, you will have to pay upfront RM150. This RM150 will be deducted RM30 per month for the first 5 months. So you pay RM48-30 = RM18 for the first 5 months. From then onwards, you pay back RM48 for as long as you use the service.

You can upgrade/downgrade the number of quota but only limited to the 1.5GB/3GB/6GB package. 12GB option is excluded. Say you want to terminate before you first 5 months is up, you will lose the upfront payment. I'm not sure if they have other administration charges. The modem is yours but it will be locked to Maxis network though. You can get it unlocked easily by requesting assistance from here.

Speed is pretty impressive depending on your location, time and congestion. You most definitely need to strategically place the modem so that you get good reception. Then you will get pretty good speeds (like more than 1Mbps). Ensure your PC processor is still capable because I read that it will improve throughput (unsure though). I recommend you take the Maxis modem Huawei E1762 because it can do HSDPA 7.2Mbps and HSUPA 5.76Mbps (network dependent) for future compatibilities.

Just remember that your subscribed quota will be 1.5GB. Exceeding this limit will result in your speed being throttled. You will still be able to online as oppose to some party (from phone shop) insisting that you will be cut off. Checkout Maxis's terms and conditions to avoid disappointment.

hey guys..
just started using maxis wireless for the past 2 days. so far the connection at my home is still ok, without any interruption at all (surf for like 3-4 hrs each nite).
but then, most of the time, i only got wcdma instead of hsdpa as show below.
is my signal really that weak? is it possible to go anyway lower then wcdma?
thanks.

Try moving around with your laptop and see if the reception improves (check dashboard). Then not the location. Continue until you have covered all the convenient places. If you're using a router, then you move it to that place. If you're on direct connection to laptop, guess you may have to consider moving your place.

Also note that some place may not have HSDPA reception or it is weak. So you're hopped back to WCDMA. If still low, it may hop down to Edge and then GPRS. But your modem and dashboard should be configured to only connect to WCDMA by default.
