Well i would pay max rm 23k for 2001 v6. Coz u need to change/service lots of thing to make sure it gonna last u. My 2001 v6 is use for weekly traveling of 1100km, which in turn need to be service once in a month ( oil filter etc ).
i would check the braking, oil leaking, the gearbox, and suspension.

and my odometer is at 313k alredi..

After thinking for a while i follow your opinion and cancelled the booking of the car and now thinking how to choose car.

should i bought modified car with evo3/tt engine or just buy 2004 or 2005 car.

the purpose is to travel far without any problem since need to travel in the dark road at night.

the best would be v6 NA with manual tranny.
or evo or TT also with manual tranny.

evo engine is smaller than v6tt (more room to work with) and usually workmanship fee is lower..

Helo Sifus and the rest of the forumers.. It has been awhile since i last posted in this thread..

I actually sat down and read all the posts by our forumers here since the last time i posted (about 6-8 months back). Very interesting and knowledgeable read indeed. Thanks again to all PV6 owners for sharing your problems and solutions.. (special credits to NeuroOne, Omnipotent, koh_424, & lewatmalam)!

Just wanted to share my one(1) year and six(6) months experience of using my Perdana V6 (standard model, year 2005 - odometer 89,000km when bought), comes with factory fitted ATF cooler).

Now my Odometer reads 118,000km. I use my car for night city driving & as a weekend car. No much driving i guess - only clocked 29,000km since i bought it - 1 year and 6 months ago.

An awesome car indeed. Long distance driving is fun and comfortable. The best speed that I enjoy driving is 100-110km/h, RPM:2.8k. My car's fuel economy: Full tank=RM100 : 450km city driving, and 550 highway driving. Reasonable ratio for a 2.0 liter car i guess.

Below are the list of experiences that I went through so far with my PV6:

1) Changed all 4 brake pads upon buying the car (using stock Mintye brand) - still good till now.

2) Changed both front(oil) and back(gas) absorbers to KYB. Still good till now but the gas absorbers are a bit stiff and I'm planning to change it to oil absorbers the next time around.

3) Did major service at 100,000km (changed GMB water pump, timing belt kit, other belts, NGK Platinum spark plugs, 2 engine mountings, etc etc) : spent about RM1,200.00. Changed my light bulbs as well upon them dying - normal OEM ones (for brake, indicators, and headlights).

4) Normal GB service - ATF and filter change. (Maintaining change every 15,000km for ATF and 30,000km for filter). My ATF is Proton SP3.

5) My car couldn't start at times. Serviced my throttle body, changed my fuel filter still to no avail. Even after servicing the throttle body and changing the fuel filter, still may car minyak tak naik and had to change the fuel pump. Replaced my fuel pump to chop shop Eterna fuel pump. Need to figure out whats the real problem here.. still facing the same prob once in awhile.. sigh.. Probably electronics kot.

6) Two months after buying the car, I changed from dry cell to wet cell(N70) - the wrong wiring at my radio was draining my battery (leaking current) until my dry cell went kaput. Stupid 2ndhand car dealer worker who wrongly fitted the wires before me buying the car.

7) I maintain 5,000km service interval with Pennzoil Semi-Synthetic 10W-40. Good oil indeed.

8) Car so far runs well with no problem except the engine starting problem - once in awhile. Smoke sometimes can be seen after rain or early morning.. I think this is normal. Nothing major.

9) My GB runs smoothly except for the "thud" sound/feel during gear changes - not often though. I jaga my GB and very rare thrash it (only when ppl cucukx2 behind me unnecessarily, hehe).

10) My fastest speed recorded was 190km/h at Seremban Highway on d way to Melaka (had 3 passengers in the car). I think my car can reach 200km/h at the most if tekan sumore.. Haven't try it yet though. Car was also cruising fine at 160km/h. Cabin sound intrusion is noticeable after 110km/h (probably I need to change my door rubbers as my car 6 years plus d.. hehe).

I guess, these are the things that I've done and experienced so far with my beloved PV6. Love the car so much! One of the best decisions I've taken in my 25 years of living - i.e.: getting a Perdana V6.

Last but not least.. thanks again to all the Sifus in this forum! hope to see this thread alive and kicking like always!

p/s: Thanks Wan for all the help. Dah lama aku tak turun TT.. one of these days will definitely join u guys!

Hi team,

Just want to clarify about the gear box price.

1) How much does the cost of auto/manual gear box original/recon price if we replace?
2) How much if we ONLY repair the faulty gear box?

I have read many articles/forum and some of them stated rm3000 and some says rm12000. Which one is true cause i am planning to own one 2nd v6 soon, so i am doing a big survey.

1. auto recon around rm1.6K with trade-in ur old gb. warranty usually 6 months. manual gb fullset + installation is around rm3.5k-4k.

2. repair is around rm1.2k

i recommend to look for manual gb la.
save fuel, better response and better acceleration.
but u lose autocruise function and relaxing auto drive.. hehe

Hello to all PV6 owners,

Would like to seek help and advise from all sifus and PV6 owners regarding to my PV6 that bought in year 2002. The car has been serving me and my family well in all these years until recently the engine temperature became problematic eversince it overheated for the 1st time when i travelled to genting with my family at 2 years ago.

Within this 2 years, the car has been done major service i.e. new spark plug, water pump, timing belt, plug cable, and etc + top overhual due to oil leakage and service car radiator, which the latest was done on 2 weeks ago by replacing a new top layer of the radiator due to crack and water leakage.

Until now the car still facing overheat problem whenever i try to push it on 110km/h - 140km/h with and without using overdrive. The meter temp will show that it will raise from 40% until 75% to 80% before reaching total overheat. but strangely the temp will back to normal condition again if i slow down the speed till 40kmh or stop and let the engine cool down for 10 minutes. I had went back to my mech to chech the radiator but my mech claimed radiator didn't crack and coolant still remaining the same level.

To all sifus or owners who maybe had faced the same issue like mine, pls enlighten me that which parts of the car may probably caused the temp problematic? many many thanks if anyone could help notworthy.gif

Did you mean the thermostat valve jam or not fully open during when I push the engine? hmmm...but then how come it will went back normal if i slow down the speed to below 50km/h? if the thermostat was jam the engine temp will still maintain overheat even if I slow down the speed? please enlighten coz i'm also not fully know how thermostat actually works just know it's valve will close if the engine is cool and open when its hot. blush.gif

for bent/bengkok engine head
- skim the head but v6 head can only be skimmed once and not too much. if its too bent, u have to look for new (or 2nd hand) head. may cost rm700 for both v6 heads

for blocked radiator
- open both top head and lower head of radiator. must be done at radiator servicing shop. if both heads needs changing, change them. or even better buy those 2 layer fully aluminium radiator (i'm using one now). and dont forget to flush and bleed the water lines. service ~rm70, new radiator head rm100-150 (depend on brand), 2 layer alu radiator rm300 above.

thermostat
- change new one la only rm30-50

Hello NeuroOne, thanks for the informative details. I just took the car for my mech to view for his opinion. He suspect maybe either is the cylinder head or the block bent that causes the problem. In order to fix he suggest either

1) Top overhaul- the main issue maybe the cylinder head bent so in order to fix it has to be sent to machinery shop for them to check water pressure measurement and which cost about RM150 per head total 2 heads would be RM3++. mmc gasket around RM2++ and labour chagre RM8++ so total quotation will be around RM1.7k

2) Full overhaul- if not the cylinder head that caused the problem then it would be the block may as well bent. so the price for skiming and test water presure for both cylinder head and block would be less than Rm1k and plus total full overhual kit will be cost a bomb... TT

other than that, the mech didn't comment much about the thermostat and regading to radiator, he just went to check and found out no leakage and as well not possible internal water blocking coz the issue has just fixed 2 weeks ago and really rare the radiator water will stuck again within such short time... TT
Really confuse now... i duwan to spend thousands just to buta buta fix my temp issue... during the conversation with my mech he quoted alot of "maybe" so it makes me even the mech also not too sure whether will fix my problem even i spent such amount... rclxub.gif

or mayb my mech is not good enough to determine the problem...? please if any V6 owner had the same issue like mine pls share your solution. notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

u may do the cheapest option first.
1. thermostat check - while ur car is idling or aftyer drive. so not switch off the car. feel the upper radiator hose, if hot then thermostat ok, if cold then thermostat jammed. the lower hose must be hot.

2. radiator check - this is quite hard to check. have to open up the radiator and spray water through each fin in the radiator. but if only cost about rm70. dont forget to do bleeding after flushing the radiator.

3. waterpump. might also be the culprit but this is expensive to do. waterpump only rm110-150 (GMB brand) but the work have to open the timing belt.

4. for bent head, i do not actually know the price for test and skimming. i've had a bent head before but i just change the head. but the gasket wont cost u rm200 la. a full timing belt set is rm350, how come only the gasket cost rm200? and the labour to change head will not cost more than rm300.

5. as for bent block, i dont think the block bent becoz v6 block is kinda bullet proof. if only an overheat happen, the block will still hold.

as for 4 and 5, if cost u more than rm1.5k, u'd be better off finding and plonking in a 2nd hand v6 engine. get engine kosong complete (head + block + internals) is good enuff. u can use back everything else..
