Well, before watching the second movie, I already found out that there will be another sequel. But I still expected Smaug to be slain in this one.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Agreed for the most part....lots and lots of changes from the book and the tone of the movie seemed off. Not as consistent as the LOTR Trilogy. I might watch it again to see if my feel for it changes. Just some random thoughts : 1.) Beorn appeared in just a blink, a glorified cameo?? 2.) Tauriel/Kili/Legolas story....undercooked and the elves appeared like superheroes. 3.) The Bard background story with his ancestor knocking off one of the scales....I thought that was a good change, made it streamlined and linked nicely. 4.) Azog - annoying character change in Part 1 and still somewhat annoying in Part 2. 5.) Smaug chasing dwarves - Totally made up. If I remember correctly, Bilbo managed to escape, Smaug was cunning enough to realize Barrel-rider meant he got help from Laketown, hence he got angry and went to smack them. |

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (2013)
at 1Utama's Atmos Theater (Hall 3) + 48fps 3D First of all, I choose the Atmos Theater, Dolby's brand new Surround system. Just before the movie started, Dolby had a few "show off" Dolby teaser they were VERY impressive!! So did it add to the movie... Well, no... I do not think the movie was mixed for the system... (layman's opinion) As for the movie, again impressive 3D in 48fps. Storytelling is slightly better compared to the first Smaug (The Dragon) was really REALLY well done. I do have a little complain though... » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « The barrel scene is amazing! The ending.... I think could have been a little more subtle... I just hope the third comes out during the summer of 2014 rather then fall... My Two Sen |

Before I watched it, heard LOTS of comments about the WTF ending. So, here's what I initially though will happen - Bilbo masuk the dragon lair, show dragon head, then credits roll. But I was wrong. Very wrong. And I don't have any problems with the overall ending.
Between Atmos and THX, it's a gamble. Those who saw it in Atmos had positive comments on the barrel scene. Coz Atmos is built mainly on surround. Those who watched in THX had positive comments on the dragon scene. Coz THX is mainly on 'kick'. Obviously, Atmos can deliver the same 'kick' as THX but you can find alot of comments saying that they recessed the Atmos punch for unknown reasons. Oh, and for the first time, I saw Legolas got slightly hurt. Not as badly as Aragon. But he 'was' near immortal in LOTR123. |

No idea how are they gonna fit the battle of the five armies in the next movie considering the ending of the Desolation of Smaug.
Unless it is an extremely long one, other than that i can't seen it be fulfill with so much screentime for other not so relevant character. |

I watch Hobbit II without watching any of the LOTR movies..
At first the dwarf's quests were pretty good. But once Bilbo went into the mountain and faced Smaug, the whole movie pretty much went to hell for me. The whole "fights" against Smaug was so silly and dragged on far too long unnecessarily. The whole hide and seek with the Smaug was way too ridiculous and Smaug was really incompetent. Do you seriously want me to believe that somehow, dragon fire was useless if you hide behind pillars? For all the rampage inside the mountain and all those fire breathings, somehow none of the dwarfs bit it? Ugghh |

The cgi for this movie was a joke for the money spent on it. Especially the starting when they ride the horse on the mountain. I laugh.

One thing everyone needs to know. The Hobbit was actually more of a children's book.
And it was one small book only. PJ decided to stretch 1 book into 3 movies. This is the biggest criticism of this movie. It's so full of unnecessary material that really neither adds to the lore nor adds to the movie. Instead, they detract from the main movie storyline as a whole. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « With all these criticisms of the movie, you would think that I hated this movie. Au contraire. Overall, I still think the movie is between average to slightly above average. Being given another chance to glimpse into the brilliant world and lore of Middle Earth is just too good to turn down. It also managed to entertain for most parts of its 2 hours 40 mins running time. I just think that it should have been shorter and better. This post has been edited by +Newbie+: Dec 26 2013, 07:05 PM |
