The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012)

Wow... how to review this.

Watched this on Sunday, in 3D...

After watching Lord Of The Ring, Return of the King, I really REALLY wanted to see The Hobbit, just to be complete.

After hearing all the drama, related to the copyright, the changes in director, and now have watched the first of the three movie, I am... underwhelm....

Don't get me wrong, it is beautifully shot! Nostalgia galore, and hence there lays the problem, there really isn't enough story to justify 3 MOVIES!!!!

He spread thing out, to the point of stupor...

Alright, he extracted information from the compendium, and also, that is the problem. It is compendium, which means additional information, NOT story....

Pacing is an issue. When action happens, it is NOTHING but, and when things slow down, they slow down to a stupor...

One thing I would like to add though, the "music" in this movie, is actually an improvement over The Lord of the Ring trilogy, which is a good thing!!

I'm a little concern for part 2 and 3...

Hi shootkk/soitsuagain

Nice to know there are people out there that kinda/sorta feel the same way about the movie.

Thanks you soitsuagain for bringing up Randergast, the brown wizard.

Would be interesting if the two blues make an appearance in the 2nd and 3rd (ala Peter Jackson, tempering)

Would be nice if things pick up a bit in the 2nd and 3rd...

I think I had expressed myself poorly in my review in a sense that when I was watching LOTR, 1, 2 and 3, there were alot of thing I haven't seen in movies before, and it was like, one wow after the next.

While watching The Hobbit, I keep getting the "been there" and "done that" feeling!!

The sense of "wonderment" in a sense was gone...

That, in essence was what I miss, in The Hobbit...

My Addendum...

Really liked the 48fps, made the 3D a lot better, though I do think it makes your eyes strain more, having to process fake 3D at twice the frequency.

Well. Will WONDERS never cease. You and I are agreeing on the same thing!!! biggrin.gif THE WORLD WILL END TOMORROW!! biggrin.gif

I just rewatch The Hobbit yesterday in 48fps 3D and it is a TOTALLY different movie.

The images JUST POPS OUT AT YOU!!

This is the WAY the movie should really be seen.

My Addendum's addendum!! smile.gif

Well, I was just wondering. Any kind of story on any kind of media does need some degree of suspension of disbelief on the reader's/viewer's to work but if you go too far, people start complaining.  biggrin.gif

Wizards, elves and what-not can exist but the imaginary world still need to abide by some form of logic and that logic needs to be consistent. We can see that Gandalf is a wizard adept at fire and light magic but if he starts to spew laser bolts out from his fingers, people will start to complain.

The moth case is just inconsistent. Not a biggie.

Have you considered that where Gandalf is in The Hobbit may be alot closer to the Eagles nest then compared to Saruman's Tower...

Totally silly answer.

Just being silly!! tongue.gif

Possible for me to understand the story of this movies if I never watch any lord of the ring series before ?
*
Very good question and the answer is, YES!

This story/movie takes place BEFORE The Lord of The Ring.

Personally, I would RECOMMEND you see it in the 48fps 3D format.

Again, emphasis on the word, personally

Hope this helps

Not quite...

You probably want to wait for Part 2 and 3 of The Hobbit first.

Truth to be told, after watching this movie, you'll understand why the LOTR books/movie exist!! nod.gif

Enjoy you luck so and so!! laugh.gif

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Extended Edition (2012)

Hahaha!

At 183 minutes I believe it is about 18 minutes more compared to the movie version...

Basically there are songs added to the movie and also a few extended scenes...

Being a fanboy, I actually did enjoy this.

The kicker is, there are 2 Special Feature disc...

2!!!!

9 hours worth of of Special Features

9!!!!!!!

If you have not got the movie version and are a true fanboy.... GO FOR IT!!!!! laugh.gif

PQ and AQ is AMAZING!!!!

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (2013)

at 1Utama's Atmos Theater (Hall 3) + 48fps 3D

First of all, I choose the Atmos Theater, Dolby's brand new Surround system.

Just before the movie started, Dolby had a few "show off" Dolby teaser they were VERY impressive!!

So did it add to the movie... Well, no... I do not think the movie was mixed for the system... (layman's opinion)

As for the movie, again impressive 3D in 48fps.

Storytelling is slightly better compared to the first

Smaug (The Dragon) was really REALLY well done.

I do have a little complain though...

The barrel scene is amazing!

The ending.... I think could have been a little more subtle...

I just hope the third comes out during the summer of 2014 rather then fall...

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (2014) (HFR 3D Signature Cinema The Gardens)

Okay, for the parties who are interested to know if the HFR 3D is worth the money, I have watched all three episodes in 48 frames 3D and the answer is YES!

You will not believe the details you get from the start if the movie, namely
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

As for the rest of the movie, by Jove Peter, do you really need the money??

This seriously, is a two parter, at most!!! A three parter!?! Come on!!

A VERY self indulgent project.

Now, I really REALLY wish Guillermo had stuck on to direct it!!

Don't get me wrong, production quality is through the roof, unfortunately, there just isn't that much of a story....

I kinda remember the story (I;ve read the book). I remember how it ended

If you have watched the first and second, how can you possibly missed this!!

but he has forgotten that

actually i think peter wanted to do silmarillion but due to copyright stuff so he forced to make the hobbit as 1 last middle-earth experience for the audience, damn imagine the story of Morgoth can be told on the silverscreen
*
If Tolkien Estate do decide to release the movie rights to Silmarillion, I seriously hope Peter Jackson produces it and Guillermo Del Toro directs it!!!

I personally think that if Guillermo Del Toro had had stuck to making the Hobbits movie, they would have been better received, and on the down side, we would not had gotten Pacific Rim (2013)....

So what happened to the dude who wore women's clothing and stole the gold? Guess he was able to run away and live happily ever after?

Would not be surprise if we saw more of him in the Extended version
