QUOTE(DjKenji @ Jun 29 2008, 06:37 PM) hi everyone im new in this thread. I've study in Melbourne 3 month ago in Hawthorn language uni. Does any LYN gathering in melb? Well I suppose 3 months isn't much time, but for someone in language school, methinks you need some improvement. And before anyone starts accusing me, I would like to see anyone dispute that statement. I have a lot to say about language schools in Australia, but I'll let it pass this time. |

Two corrections:Well I suppose 3 months isn't a long time, but for someone in a language school, methinks you need some improvement. "methinks" is not proper English either, but it is in the dictionary so I'll let that one off. |

QUOTE(howszat @ Jun 29 2008, 07:28 PM) Two corrections: Not wrong, and it is right if you are talking about formal English. I'll keep that in mind.Well I suppose 3 months isn't a long time, but for someone in a language school, methinks you need some improvement. "methinks" is not proper English either, but it is in the dictionary so I'll let that one off. However, you might have guessed from "methinks", I was leaning more towards colloquial English. By any measure, 3 months is not much time in learning any language. And while I'm no English teacher, "someone in language school" and "someone in a language school" mean the same thing. Grammatically speaking, is there a big difference between "someone in class" and "someone in a class"? You can't be in 2 classes at the same time, no? |

I believe the point here is as much as we'd like to encourage proper use of English, we shouldn't go Nazi on every single post if the poster is not a serial offender. In other words, you should try to be more encouraging in your response and not be as hostile as you may have been. However, you might have guessed from "methinks", I was leaning more towards colloquial English. its safer to just get a photo id, differs from state to state. more convenient. |

well... get a keypass... or a proof of age card... if you dont want to get a driver's license... just get the learner's permit, it works the same too...
by the way, since the price is almost the same i think around 60bucks... i would rather go for the learner's, incase next time you will want to get your PR, you will have to get your driver's license anyway... Added on June 30, 2008, 8:10 amhmmm... seriously bringing a passport is really too risky... you will get into deep sh1t if you ever lose it... why risk it while you can have other better options out there...
