hey just thought of asking what are the flights that you guys take? and how much are they? do you usually buy return tickets or one way?

i think it's also an important information for the students studying in australia since they travel back home often...

uhm you better book now, try MAS if they had cheap one.. or else they will adjust price to current fuel price which is consider quite high alrdy. doh.gif
another route use AAX from perth or  jetstar to singapore..there you can shopping !
*
hmmm i already tried MAS... one way costs like 900 bucks man!! that's too much weh... so i dont plan to book first, hoping for MIRACLES... since the price is already too high...

checked AAX too, but the transit time is so sucky... long wait and so much trouble doesnt really save A LOT frankly... i rather go on MAS then... jetstar to singpore... hmm... will try later and see what i can find... thanks!!

hi ppl,
would like to enquire, is it more economical for one to get a post paid or prepaid over in australia?
*
hmmm... what do you mean by more economical? it depends on your usage lar of coz... just like in malaysia also same lar... you think postpaid or prepaid more suitable for you? if you use it a lot obviously postpaid's rates are better... but if you use it like once in a blue moon just for communication, then prepaid is good enough i would say...

i have both 3 postpaid and optus prepaid... and my 3 postpaid is the best plan ever!! HAHAHHAHAHA... HOT FOR 3!! where i get 500 minutes free calls and NOT ON PLAN... i pay for whatever i use... somtimes my bill only costs 1buck =P and i only use it to make free calls... while calling other network i use my optus prepaid...

where is other place then Mt.Buller that i can play snow in this winter..? coz i have been once to Mt.Buller..plan to try other places...any ideas guys..? biggrin.gif
*
erm... i have never been to mt buller as i heard that's the worst place to go... it's small and packed!!! the reason why everyone is going there just because it's so near, so it's cheaper... so it makes everyone there and traffic jam when you ski...

i have been to fallscreek for 3 times and mt bawbaw once... fallscreek is good, huge and fresh snow!! you can see snow flakes on your jackets!! mt bawbaw is crap just for a one day trip...

side note: i never ski before but i have tried snow boarding which it gave me a hard time falling down and getting up again and again and again... BUT BUT BUT it turned out to be fun when i smartly SAT on the board and sliding down... VERY VERY VERY fun, try it!

and also, what sort off clothes should i bring there? and is it better to buy here or there?
*
bring something that you cant get it here...
clothes you need not to bring too much, can just get them here... because when you are here you will just buy the clothes here and start wearing them and abandone your old clothes... 95% of the clothes in my wardrobe are bought here...

i would recommend you to get a normal jacket which can last for all year round *except summer when you dont need a jacket*... then for different weather just wear more or lesser layers...

and i notice that you SHOULD be a girl... just a note, those thick or big bomber jackets make you look fatter and not so fashionable... =P the layering is IN... HHAHAHHAHAHAH... *ignore me if you feel like it*

@SeeD: Books can also be ordered through Amazon.com. I ordered most of my books through the net after my 1st semester. Even adding shipping costs, it still works out to be cheaper than the university bookshop. Case in point: my networking textbook. Uni bookshop = $98. Amazon.com = $48 + $4 for shipping. And as far as I could see, it was as good as the ones from the uni bookshop.

Granted, not all books you need can be bought online.

@s373n || KVReninem: reports also say that the iphone will also be sold without a contract in Australia. My NZ friends are already asking me. happy.gif

@eRiCCa: what's wrong with a guy liking girls cartoons?! We don't say much when you gals dress up in baggy pants, short hair and all.
*
did i say WRONG? it was just my assumption based on that... dont you assume that this girl is a guy when you can only see from the back that she has a guy's hairstyle, guy's clothing?

anyway, about textbooks... i think my textbooks were all so new as i hardly touched textbooks, your lecturers usually ask you to have your LECTURE NOTES and tutorial materials... they rarely refer anything from the textbooks... and i am sure you can find those information that you need from other books or even google...

The need for textbooks are based on your course at uni. Some courses "recommend" text books but are not usually required and some courses require you to read extra from textbooks to do well.

Your course may not require any textbooks, but mine certainly does. I get a different lecturer each week and each one recommends a different text book-which they base their lecture notes on.

Of course, it is not necessary to buy the books since there are plenty of copies in the library-you just need to be quick before it gets borrowed out
*
weeeeeeeeeeeee so MED students DO need textbooks... but since you get different lecturer each week and each asking for different textbook, so do you get all of them? but I THOUGHT most of the textbooks have the same information as the information should be constant though? no? unless they want the specific case study or exercises?

Living in Australia Is really Expensive Before i decided to study in monash sunway i chose Australia in UNSw to study in sydney  but its so expensive in terms of tuition fees its 26K AUD per yr OMG and How much is the living cost in sydney per yr i think around 15 k AUD? right? Can international Students Earn 15k AUD per yr? Its not possible and they have to pay taxes as well right how much is the tax? Is it really True that Renting a Single room in Sydney is almost $200 / week or $250 wothout utils i really need some info on living costs and Anyone Studying in UNSW ? Can i do Credit from Monash malaysia to UNSw ?
*
first, i find that your way of writing is so unique... HAHHAHAH... you CAP the first of letter of most of the words!!
living cost should be more than that in sydney... and international students only allowed to work 20 hours a week LEGALLY where you will have to pay tax... BUT... some people still work for cash money jobs out there which is ILLEGAL!! the rental in sydney should be around there or maybe more... but you can always live away from the city that can cost you cheaper rental... more information can check www.domain.com.au or www.realestate.com.au...

well... i have actually compared my australia studying expenses with my friends in the uk... apparently... not much difference, and if you work there in the uk... you can earn more money... as the living expenses are lower there... for like 2 or 3 pounds you can get a meal, while in australia, you need to spend 10 bucks...

wah so expensive edi meh... i have no idea at all... because usually when i eat out, i wouldnt eat those food, i think they are all overpriced for that serve of rice + meat... i think that spending like 10bucks on dessert house and all is just plain waste of money... i rather pay 30bucks to go for better food on lygon st or hardware lane... or jap/korean food... or 70bucks on yummy buffet...

QUOTE(Riddhy @ Jun 27 2008, 01:44 PM)
I am really sorry abt my post if its hard for u guys to read

as u guys said students can earn 15k per yr or for 9 months but the point is how by doing which jobs can i earn 15 k AUD in 9 months? can u give some examples and working only 20 hrs a week mind u and also How much percentage of your income do u have to give as tax.
I heard its 33% is it true? if thats true then i have to give 5k aud as tax and  will have 10 k left provided if i earn 15 k per yr and then again i will be 5 k short so how are you guys managing this plz tell me are your parents financing your living costs as well?
How much % percentage Tax do u guys pay and do u get any tax refunds?
About the accomodation if i live further away from uni suburbs the cost will be low but the cost in transport will increase right?  so will it save any money suppose i live near uni give $200/week and if i live further renting 180/week but the cost of transport is $20 to $30/week then its a loss right

Are guys really serious about the Food?? I Mean $10/meaL Cmon??
we eat three meals a day so it will $30 /day and $900/month only on meals ? DamN or is it $10/day in three meals??
*
hmmm... apparently you can do jobs like call centre telemarketing they pay a lot and easy to get... as so many jobs available... and not many people want to do... as you will get scolding a lot... the rate is around... 25 per hour i guess... for the tax rates... www.ato.gov.au can help you...

well... yes the food is... 10bucks PER MEAL... and it's the suckiest meal you can get... if you want to get like a PROPER meal... that will cost you around 20bucks... or you can have your MCDs all the time... 5bucks per meal... for me a girl... for a guy... still around 8bucks i think... so... food is expensive... UNLESS... you cook at home... maybe you can survive with 10bucks for 3 meals...

really? but how come so many indians doing that?

OH YEA, if you want to be a TAXI DRIVER too!! so many indians doing... and they actually making quite a bit...

but then again, dont plan to earn your tuition fees OR even daily expenses here... pretty hard though... unless you are really good and lucky and hard working and PRETTY!! HAHHAHAHAHA... my friend could work like a super girl, and she is pretty and hardworking... she used to work everyday... and in those restaurants where they pay 20bucks per hour + 100bucks tips a day... so... it depends AGAIN... normal people CANT do that!!

How does your friend perform academically?

The issue is you come here primarily to obtain a good education, not to work, but I guess some people have different goals.
*
fuwah... your this question, sounds like you SUSPECT that she is not a good performer? i am so sorry, she was the TOP performer instead, she did that just because she HAD to, as she was having financial difficulties, not that lucky to have support from family, she was supporting herself for her living costs... and so she satisfied the primary goal GOOD EDUCATION at the same time making money...

QUOTE(Riddhy @ Jun 28 2008, 12:00 AM)
Well u guys forgot one thing the tax for non residents in 29% see hereas u gave me the link http://www.ato.gov.au/individuals/content....ntent/12333.htm
so u most of u ppl are non residents right so u have to 29% and does international students get tax refund or returns? did u guys get any refunds and how much tax did u pay?

As for the expanses all i am asking is that i know most of ur parents pay for the tuition fees but what about the living costs? Does Parents Pay 15K AUD per yr as well or do u manage or most of u guys manage your own living costs for the whole yr by doing part time jobs?

plz tell me how u guys do that.
And as for transport if i suppose live in place in Sydney where a single room costs #$150/week how much further will it be from UNSW in KM?
And how will i get to UNSW what will be the cost of transport per day, any Idea?
*
like what RBR said, we are all residents... well, i dont think normal people can work that much to earn your living costs, and i used to work part time, but just to earn EXTRA money for clubbing and shopping... so yes, the daily expenses were sponsored by parents...

well... get a keypass... or a proof of age card... if you dont want to get a driver's license... just get the learner's permit, it works the same too...

by the way, since the price is almost the same i think around 60bucks... i would rather go for the learner's, incase next time you will want to get your PR, you will have to get your driver's license anyway...

Added on June 30, 2008, 8:10 amhmmm... seriously bringing a passport is really too risky... you will get into deep sh1t if you ever lose it... why risk it while you can have other better options out there...
