the temp is reading from core temp of everest, read at xtremesystem real temp for accurate, my old e8400 also getting such temp no matter how i adjust my mountings... ,mayb its IHS problem, i can sure my wc no problem cause the temp for vga quite impressive...

wanna ask you experts here ar cos i've not been following the oc scene for awhile.

I'm planning to get an intel rig, p45 mobo but the ram i've no idea what's in the market now, so here goes...

1) What's the best value to mid range overclockable ddr2 memory and expect to pay how much?

2) should the ram capacity be 2gb or 4gb? If it were you, what will be your choice.

thanks all sifu notworthy.gif

1. 2x1gb team xtreem 800mhz

2. bigger capacity is always better than higher speed, n higher speed is always better than tighter timing.... but 4gb kit not so OCable lo....

if wana get 4gb kit, crucial tracer 800mhz is kinda cheapo if u PM me brows.gif

if not, i wud like to recommend u gskill pc2-8000...very nice ram for just rm400 from bulk IMO... but kinda have to wait super long to get it as the MOQ very slow to reach sweat.gif

Need some help here. Long story short:

Proc : X3320 (equivalent to Q9300)
- stock 2.5Ghz (333 x 7.5)
- VID 1.150v (default bios set 1.1375v)

Mobo : Gigabyte P35-DS3 r2.0
- Bios F12 (actually F13 is the updated bios for penryn quads)

Overclocking:
- no problem overclocking to around 3.15ghz (420mhz x 7.5) at 1.1325v!!!!
- can't get past 424mhz
---- looks like FSB wall (dunno mobo or proc)
---- vcore increased up to 1.275v
---- vMCH +0.2v
---- vFSB +0.2v
---- vPCI-E +0.1v
---- PCI-E frequency 100mhz - 101mhz

Issues that might overcome this problem:
- Update bios (not going to do that as my last bios update resulted in a dead mobo)
- Change mobo - sweat.gif
- Use my DFI blood iron - which has VTT & GTLref..... (lazy to disassemble two rigs.... whistling.gif)

So, any suggestion is greatly appreciated..... thumbup.gif

Priming at 1.1325v (BIOS set)
Attached Image

Oh ya, some disadvantages of this proc:
1) Low multiplier 7.5x
2) Temperature sensor is faulty.... looks like lots of penryn procs have faulty temperature sensors....

hmmm, stuck at 3.1ghz... try increase voltage to 1.3V and run fan at full speed. do u cool ur NB and SB? it might help a bit/lot.

already inform u bout low multiplier tongue.gif

I doubt it is the vcore..... hmm.gif considering that it is priming stable at 3.15Ghz at 1.1325v (BIOS set) @ 1.072v CPUz...

Reduced the CPU multipler to 6.0x and tried to run at 6.0 x 430mhz = 2580mhz.... can't get past the FSB wall.... sad.gif

Yeah, the CPU multiplier is a REAL DISADVANTAGE!!! vmad.gif

Added on August 16, 2008, 12:01 am3.15ghz x3220 on par with 3.2ghz q6600, i guess. have u bench it?

Dunno... I never did test the FSB wall of the mobo... my previous P35-DS3 could hit 480mhz on the FSB.... this current one never tested before....

Searching the net.... looks like the normal FSB wall for the CPU is around 440-480mhz...

Probably can get a bit higher if I had a mobo with more settings....

As pointed out above, the temperature sensor is a faulty. Now priming, Core temp shows 65-70'c while Easytune5 shows 42'c!!! sweat.gif

At idle, it is 53-57'c on core temp, which is very unlikely....

Didn't bench yet as now priming...

Sell? Already advertise my Q6600 at garage sales la.... wink.gif

Was thinking of that..... but afraid of ending up with another dead mobo....

I've no spare mobo at the moment.... sad.gif

Damn, my comp rebooted..... looks like not stable at 1.1325v @ 3.15Ghz....

Update : LOL! The culprit was the trd!!! Set to "Auto", it was 8. I set it to 10 and now, I can OC past 3.2Ghz.... woooo hoooooooo!
