Can try look for those garden area or those pandan, lily, green bamboo, wild pepper, hibiscus, keladi etcs leaves.
Some trees like jackfruit/pokok nangka, Sugar cane, banana tree also got FS. Look for those leaves tat stick to each other, FS likes to make their nest in between the leaves. Just be careful if go to those unknown area,, maybe got snakes, lizards, etcs hiding inside the bushes. Wear proper clothes to protect yourself from mosquitoes also. v_viper88 QUOTE(louisfjh @ May 30 2008, 08:05 PM) |

This morning not working, went to Telekom hill nearby Seksyen 2 Wangsa maju. Its a step area going up hill to the water reservoir surrounded by forest trees. Not many people there, so its abit scary coz like inside forest.. Only caught 1 female FS and 2 young males. The young males is much smaller than the average size FS from my housing area FS. Later let them go coz not strong fighters.
Here are some pics taken today. Yellow banner - i dunno wats it for, maybe for protection from XXXX.. OK tree. This tree, one of its branch bengkok down and grow horizontally..Looks like OK sign. Mangkuk tree and mangkuk leaves. This type of plant is rare ... hard to find in town area nowdays. Theres only one small Mangkuk tree plant in TM hill. Chaos latest pics. Big but not fierce fighter yet. v_viper88 This post has been edited by viper88: Jun 11 2008, 09:16 PM |

Man.. i tot u retired from playing FS liao... sms u few times oso no reply oso..
FS like sweet juice compare to plain water. I'm still not sure whether fruit juice will cause poisoning to FS onot bcoz previously no problem. Some websites i posted earlier also have info about fruit juice for spiders etcs.. I still feel its my room air-cond anti-backteria function tat kill my FS coz i put my FS case just outside my room door. Since you try let your FS tat drink milk.. see whether it will have the same effect. QUOTE(mindstorm @ Jun 19 2008, 12:27 PM) Wah..nice to see you still catching FS in new places. Once a FS fanatic, always a FS fanatic...that's me! Unfortunately rite now i'm pretty tight with my time.FS like sweet juice compare to plain water. I still feel its my room air-cond anti-backteria function tat kill my FS coz i put my FS case just outside my room door. Since you try let your FS tat drink milk.. see whether it will have the same effect. Milk is quite ok... a rather dilute food. When i feed my FS milk, some of them drink for up to 5 minutes! As if like eating...and also after drinking that long, their abdomen "kembang". So I think they may get nutritional value from it, after all milk is a complete food solely capable of bringing up a growing infant mammal. Actually 1 month ago, i have given milk to Bronze and he drank quite long... so far no side effects whatsoever. I once gave blood to a young male FS(before changing skin), it drank for a while. But after that, for a week or so, it didn't look well...sluggish and dragging teeth on the ground, then after one week died. Dunno wheather it had problems digesting raw blood.. I tried to let them drink my sweat! But no takers...hehe. I tried giving them Ensure drink(complete nutritional drink) but also no takers cuz too thick... Anyway I was thinking maybe can try chicken blood, "si ham" blood, fish blood(all can get when buy them fresh from market). Can also store blood in freezer, and tnaw them when need to feed...haha! Spider pics drinking milk and having milk moustache! This post has been edited by mindstorm: Jun 20 2008, 01:16 AM |

Went back to seremban to celebrate my grandma's birthday today. For years, since a young child, everytime I come here, I have never failed to find at least one female fighting spider in this isolated lily plant. It never fails to amaze me. Today there is a female with eggs in the vertical nest below. What an exposure. I also notice the nest is actually made on the underside of the leave on top. I noticed that on many nests. I wonder wheather that helps with gaseous exchange.
Best of all, my newphews(3boys) and cousin's kids(3 boys) were around, hence i figure i'll introduce them to FS... I caught a small male there over the neighbours fence... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kr6CqLG_aG4 Here are those kiddies first encounter with a FS, with my mum as assistant! Boy, wish I had these memories in video clips when i was young. Can't help but to load it up. Also feature how you can "smoke" a spider out... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZkVwYtvv9rE Here's letting them watch a live good fight. The one caught in my grandma's house was way too small for Whiteleg, hence it kecut. The chop fight was between Bronze and Whiteleg, with Bronze winning but left with an injured teeth. My newphew, Mark 5+, said, "Super fight!" at the end.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQKvb30FcXM The seremban backyard FS size is no match for Whiteleg. Hi guys, I am from Singapore. I was playing with these critters when I was like 9-10 years old . Memories flooding back again after stumbling upon the youtube videos.
Caught a total of 15 males and 10+ females from a few sites in Singapore since 31st May. Released about 6 of the males and 7 of the females to the garden just below my flat. just check the garden few days back and saw quite a few spiderlings! (next time don't need to drive far to catch liao!) Now left with 9 males (3 large, 4 middle, 2 small), 3 females for confident lifting. Two of these males are freshly caught yesterday from Mt Faber, 1 large, 1 small (1 arm). Was actually thinking that the small one not worth the effort to catch, but luckily i kept it. It turned out to be a very fierce Sup-Pow (what you guys called a chop). No preparation fighting stance, it just creep up to the larger FS like a spider moving towards a fly, and then pounced, but it still lost because the larger FS turned out to be a Sup-Pow too!! Am I lucky or what? Two Sup-pow in one day! The rest of my FS are just normal, haven't actually ranked them yet. I will try to upload my FS pictures and videos as soon as i got the time. Anyway. Nice narrations of fights and catching experience from you guys. |

Yesterday morning i followed my neighbour go back his kampung at Bagan Lalang near Sepang. It about 1.5 hr drives from KL.
I alwayws wanted to go kampung area especially where got alot palm oil trees estates so i can hunt FS. My neighbour kampung got some low/short and taller Kelapa sawit. I can only search for FS at those low/short kelapa sawit leaves, the tall one i can reach leh.. Here are some pics. ![]() I search hard trying to look for large FS but most of the time i found alot big females and alot small baby FS. So difficult to find male FS at that place So total FS caught 7 average size male FS and 1 male Bravia. Didn't have much time to catch FS spent most of my time at my neighbour kampung hse eat durian 101 ![]() ![]() Later in the evening fight the kelapa sawit FS. This morning also i let the FS fight again. Got abit exciting fight compare to yesterday but ok ok only skill. One kelapa sawit FS flip and bite other FS abdomen till bleed. I feel the kelapa sawit FS i caught from palm oil tree leaves are not really strong and fierce type. The fs kinda weak type with short arm pushing and 1-2 chops only about the same like the other FS i caught at town garden area. Maybe got some fierce one hiding up higher leaves place. Abit disappointed coz din managed to catch any large/big KING FS from kelapa sawit area but had a fun adventure experience hunt fs at kampung area. Check out the Kelapa sawit FS videos in my youtube. http://www.youtube.com/user/dellxps888 v_viper88 Added on June 23, 2008, 12:36 pmGreat to have you here. There are very few FS kakis in this forum. Hope to see excitingFS videos and pics from you. There are SG forum with FS kakis also, u can msg them for FS fight. They got good FS also. Since you stay in SG you can alwys go meet up with them and play FS when free. Cheers, v_viper88 QUOTE(centaurfly @ Jun 23 2008, 10:02 AM) Hi guys, I am from Singapore. If the garden have enough plants and ants, then the population should perpetuate there. Caught a total of 15 males and 10+ females from a few sites in Singapore since 31st May. Nice narrations of fights and catching experience from you guys. You sure are lucky. Sup-pow fights must video record and show us leh... most exciting fights are from them. Wah, large sup-pow vs small sup-pow is dangerous.... permanent damage may be inevitable. Added on June 24, 2008, 2:25 amViper, you got some good clips up from your trip to KS estate. Nice one. Looks like you didn't name them. The abdomen tearing one was the most awesome to me. From what i see, looks like the victim got thrown over and then got attacked from back. Abdomen bleeding...reminds me of jack's victim and later himself. The Bavia you got is still a young one, much smaller compared to the one I had. Looks like Bavias, like many other jumping FS, have the chop style inborn in them. You seem to have gotten a lot of males, quite productive, unlike the trip of mine. But what is similar is I also found lots of young and females. Jugding from what you said and from the pics, looks like KL FS still rulez in size and ferociousness. If they were still around, I bet ur FS like Hope, Xinan, Spartan, Hades would have mangled them. Anyway, kampung areas are vast in Malaysia, still lots of places to explore. Releasing ur Kelapa sawit FS here would be good too...mix up the gene pool. Very interesting pics you got out of your field trip. I liked the close up on their nest. Makes a FS kaki like me, feels as I'm there peering into the nest to see a white face! PS. Somehow the Bagan Lalang clip couldn't load for me. maybe the file is too big. eh..finally ok already. Cool place.. the low kelapa sawit trees looks perfect. This post has been edited by mindstorm: Jun 24 2008, 02:35 AM |

You should msg/ meet up with the SG bro FS kakis to fight with their FS. Raymond_Ng got sup pow also.
http://youtube.com/user/Leiman1 http://arofanatics.com/forums/showthread.p...=322916&page=10 Must record video and share here. : ) Mindstorm, its not easy to hunt for FS at palm oil estate, some of the leaves are quite high and only have 1-2 FS for some of the palm oil trees. I search for about 4-5 hours only manage to catch 7 male FS I've released all the kelapa sawit FS nearby my housing area garden. Will look for more FS when free next time. Interacting effects of size and prior injury in jumping spider conflicts Phillip W. Taylorf1 and Robert R. Jacksonf2 Department of Zoology, University of Canterbury, New Zealand Received 13 August 2001; revised 18 December 2001; accepted 13 July 2002. ; Available online 15 March 2003. References and further reading may be available for this article. To view references and further reading you must purchase this article. Abstract An animal's ability to win intrasexual conflicts is often determined by the combined influence of several different traits, such as size, experience, residency and prior injury. When each of two (or more) asymmetries favours a different rival, the outcome of a conflict will reflect each asymmetry's contribution to overall status. We investigated the interacting effects of size difference and prior loss of forelegs (a common injury in nature) on the ability of males to win intrasexual conflicts in Trite planiceps, a New Zealand jumping spider (Salticidae). When both rivals were intact, the probability of the larger rival winning increased with the size difference between rivals. When rivals were of matching size, injury was a strong predictor of outcome; intact spiders beat rivals missing one or both forelegs and spiders missing one foreleg beat rivals missing both forelegs. During conflicts between spiders that differed both in size and in injury state, these two variables had combined effects on outcome. The tendency for larger rivals to win increased with size difference, but the probability of the larger rival winning diminished if the larger rival of the pair was the more injured. We used inverse prediction from logistic regression models to quantify the size advantage that is sufficient to offset the disadvantage of prior injury.Copyright 2003 Published by Elsevier Science Ltd on behalf of The Association for the Study of Animal Behaviour http://www.sciencedirect.com/science?_ob=A...ddb1b97d74b9822 Effects of body size on agonistic encounters between male jumping spiders (Araneae: Salticidae) Dean B. Agonistic encounters were staged between males of the jumping spider Zygoballus rufipes to study the relationship between body size (as estimated by weight) and encounter duration, intensity and outcome. Encounters terminated at one of five different levels of intensity. All encounters started at the lowest level of intensity, and most bilaterally escalated to higher levels. A small number of encounters were unilaterally escalated by the heavier male from the lowest level of intensity directly to the highest level. The associations between weight difference and encounter outcome, duration and maximum level of intensity were assessed using the likelihood ratio statistic. As weight difference decreased, more encounters than expected were won by the lighter male, more were of longer duration and more escalated bilaterally to higher levels of intensity before terminating. Within levels of weight difference, heavier males won more bilaterally-escalated encounters terminating at higher levels of intensity than expected by chance, but won fewer encounters terminating at lower levels of intensity. These results suggest that weight has a significant influence on agonistic encounter outcome, duration and maximum level of intensity, and that when weight difference is small, bilateral escalation to higher levels of intensity is necessary for males to accurately determine body size differences http://www.sciencedirect.com/science?_ob=A...5b77deac4b07e5a Effects of body size and resource value on fighting behaviour in a jumping spider Mark S. Abstract Fights between male Euophrys parvula, a New Zealand salticid spider, consist of a number of discrete ‘stages’, of increasing intensity. Two aspects of these contests were investigated: (1) relative body size of the two opponents, and (2) the presence of a ‘resource’ (a female model). In 92% of all contests where a size difference existed, the larger of the two opponents won. Contest intensity (measured as the highest intensity behaviour elicited during the contest) was inversely correlated with relative body size of the two opponents (measured as carapace width). Contests escalated further when the female model was present. No relationship was found between contest duration and either relative body size or the presence of the model. It is suggested that for contests in which a number of behaviours of different intensity are used, contest intensity may be a better estimate of contest cost than duration. The results are discussed in terms of theoretical models of contest behaviour. This post has been edited by viper88: Jun 24 2008, 11:11 PM |

Hi, Bro centaurfly. I am pleased to know that there's another spider Hunter in Singapore
Firstly i need to apologise to Bro Mindstorm and Bro Viper for not logging in and contributing much to this forum Bro centaurfly, u can view my FS at http://www.arofanatics.com/forums/showthread.php?t=322916 Currently i have 1 Large and 1 meduim sized with me and another member AKA Heibee has a very fierce FS. We are also waiting for our Club president to set a date for our next FS meet. Hopefully we can meet up someday for Hunt or a FS Fight. Cheers Raymond_Ng QUOTE(centaurfly @ Jun 23 2008, 10:02 AM) Hi guys, I am from Singapore. |
