I'm not sure how long I can hold out from getting a PS3 after this game releases.

Here's my two cents: Try to find a 60GB (if possible) or 80GB model from either Gamestop or EB Games. If money's a concern, you can always try a used one. Then, buy used copies of any PS2 game that you really, REALLY love (which by your indication, this would include the MGS Essential Collection).

Then, as much of a pain in the ass it may turn out to be, bring them back with you.

IMHO, unless you speak Japanese, a US console with backwards-compatibility is the ultimate way to go. If you don't prefer to have a single-machine that can do it all, then by all means, buy a PS3 here in M'sia (probably Asia regioned) and pickup a cheap PS2 as well. But if you've been in the States for any reasonable amount/length of time and own any PS2 games or DVDs, you will never regret bringing a US console back.

MGS4: Unless you're dying for the Ltd Edition, I'm sure MGS4 will be readily available here in M'sia. Plenty of reputable gameshops locally that you can pre-order from. If not, there's still always Play-Asia.

And Play-Asia.. heard of it before but where? hmm.. is it a reliable source?

If there is no problem getting one copy then I definitely going to buy ps3 since GTA4 is coming out. But the one-million question is; where should I buy it (US or Malaysia?). Trust me this is one hard decision to make.

The latest issue of the UK's Edge magazine contains an interview with Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima, who expresses disappointment with the latest game in the series, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. It isn't so much the gameplay itself as it is the graphics.

"Game-wise, it's pretty close to the original vision: you sneak into the battlefield and can choose whether to do a stealth game or interfere with the battle more directly. But the graphic, side things like motion-blending and the size of the map, totally was not accomplished to my original vision - to my satisfaction."

Please don't get me wrong, I'm not criticizing the PS3 machine, it's just that we weren't really aware of what the full-spec PS3 offered - we were creating something we couldn't entirely see."

I have all MGS series from Metal Gear Solid Snake and stuff in iphone and all others for ps and ps2. The only I haven't play is the one on gamecube (remake of MGS 1; forget it's title). I know the MGS 4 ps3 console is coming out here but there is no way I could own one especially if I am not here to get in line

God the update serious pissing me off. I waitied for 2 hour to dl the game and now I had to wait for it to update the version. WTF !!!

Is there really anyway to dl more faster with BT? I'm getting like 2kb/s and the HTTP is not really working.

i know streamyx had throttle the BT speed but damn.

And I realise that the beta only start on the 21st? So we have to wait for another 2 more day only can play?

Single Machine: What I meant was, if you have authentic US/NTSC PS2 games and DVDs in your collection, buy a US  60/80GB PS3. One machine to play PS3 & PS2 games, upscale DVDs.

If you don't, then come back to Malaysia and buy an Asia reg. PS3. To satisfy your PS2/ NTSC DVD needs, you'll have to buy a PS2 as well (hence, more than 1 machine).

MGS4 & GTA4: Again, if you're just looking to get the game (and not the Special editions) then I believe there will be plenty of retailers here in Malaysia that will carry it once you get back. Or you can try Play-Asia.com (very reliable as most forumers here would agree).

I think I got you now. AFAIK, ps3 doesn't have region specific DVDs do they? because I have 2 ps2 with me now so ps2 games would never be a problem with me.

Unless I wrong about the ps3 doesn't have region specific, I think I am good now to buy anywhere (if 40gigs) but if I want more than 40 or MGS 4 special edition ps3/games, then I should buy in US. Did I got it right this time?

wait even in the US, Sony still teasing with ps3 MGS4 version. sigh. Lucky japanese bastards..

ps3 blu-ray games are region-free, but it is still region-locked when it comes to dvds. so all your R1 dvds cannot be played in an asian ps3 set, and vice versa. i found this out the hard way im currently contemplating getting a US unit as well, but i think its pretty hard in kl.

thanks for letting me know that. I dont think I will have problem getting the US version ps3 but in the long run, who knows getting asian version would benefit me more..
