Added on January 10, 2008, 9:27 pmbtw, am planning to make tube tunnels for my syrian girl. what size is suitable for syrian?
*
Maybe you can try with the Habitrial Safari and Ovo tubes and connectors as it is big enough for Syrians. You can get it from all the big Pet shops like Pet Safari (Ikano), Pets Lover Center (Sunway Pyramid), or also can check out junnie87 for some Hammies stuffs.

Here is Miki latest pics! He's pretty tame now, we just made a breakthrough last nite! He stepped onto my palm volunteerily!!! Yeay!
But I have a Q to sifus:

1. Why Miki is more 'mouse' look than my other syrians? He has bigger ears too... I hope he is not cross-breed or something sweat.gif
2. Is it normal for syrian to have a longer body? I see the rest of my syrians have rounded and stokier body. Miki body is longer and slim tongue.gif
3. Miki smell the worst! shakehead.gif only MoFo doesn't smell actually hmm.gif Maybe I shud try breeder celect too... is it good for covering smell?

Missgeek,

Currently having the same smell issue with Fumoffu. This fella pee and poo more than JackJack. Anyway tonight will be cleaning all the tanks and will be using corncob with Aspen beddings. Going to put some Timothy hay to cover the smell. The hay actually smells like tea leaves.

I bought the water bottle and bathing sands from Pets Lover Centre.
And another set of OVO Den extension. Charging battery now, will post the photo tommorow.
By the way, I use one of the Den to put the bathing sand, today the sands now cover with the bedding.
Is it normal ?

Soulx,

Breeder Celect is not cheap as those beddings for small animals because it is cat litter.

Here is the rough price I found around:
6 Litres pack - RM25-30
15 Litres pack - RM45-50
35 Litres pack - RM95-100

1 litre = 1 kilograms
1 kilograms = 1000 grams

Hope this helps as Breeder Celect is good beddings too. Will be getting the 35 litres pack from Joan after we use up all the corncob, aspen, recycle paper and timothy hay we got now.

You can try mixing corncob and aspen. Also put timothy hay as will cover the smell more tongue.gif tongue.gif tongue.gif

Regarding the smell of your Montee, you should try to smell your tank in 7 days about 1-2 feet away and see if you smell anything. You should be smelling the ammonia from pee. It also depends on how much pee your Montee pee.

All I can say is that all 4 of my hamsters (syrians and robos) need tank cleaning every 5-7 days sweat.gif sweat.gif sweat.gif

Hamsters are sensitive to heat. You should not leave them in the car if the temperature feels hot to you. Usually they will start to drool before getting a heatstroke.

BC is better than corncob and woodshavings. It's dust free and no strong odour. It controls odour very well so you don't need to change so often. Corncob will grow mold if left too long without a full tank change. Corncob is also very noisy when they dig.

Miki is a syrian, but not all syrians have round bear look. If you get from petshops, most of the syrians got mousy look coz of the body structure of the parents when breeding. Those with bear looks are more bulkier in size, because the line is from good breeding hamsters..... most of the petshop ones are low quality..... is like dogs lah, got pet quality and got show quality....

Yes, it is normal to cover with bedding.

Yes, it is better. Corncob absorbs moisture but it will turn moldy, the mold can cause breathing disorders if not cleaned weekly. Breeder Celect absorbs both moisture and odour.

Another brand to use is Healthy Pet, just as good as BC.

Firstly, hamsters cannot sweat..... and they are extremely sensitive to heat. Even if you put a cat in the same car, it would die as well. Animals cannot sweat, so they cannot get rid of heat easily. So their body over heat, die.

even if you open all the tingkap and roof, it will die from the heat.

Common sense, a car is made of metal, it absorbs heat faster, with the glass, it keeps heat in, increasing the heat to a few degrees higher. A person can also die or faint from the heat if without air cond.

i think doggies breath rapidly to excrete heat from their body...thats why after they run or some tiring activities, they'll stuff out their tongue n breath rapidly..am i right?

Ahhhh... yeah now I understand why he looked so different from MoFo, Mokie and Mobee. They are all round round shape and short. tongue.gif Miki is long long slim with hmmm extra huge balls sweat.gif

I will buy breeder celect lah like this. Time to do supply stocking anyway. By the way, buy the dried alfafa also good for covering smell and also good for their digestive and teeth! My syrians love it especially mofo cos he used it for nesting too. It also smells very nice like fresh tea/ herbs. And the best thing is, it's CHEAPER than timothy hay lor. I bought it at an aquarium shop in uptown, galaxy aquarium I think. I dont know if other place sell la.. only know there cos that petshop guy adviced me to feed it to my hamsters.

Wah, cannot leh leave ur pets in the car! I done it too but only if it's nightime and i opened the window for sure. I try not to do it tho... if i feel it's too hot even at nite (you can feel the heat urself), I will bring along. During the day when it's hot of course they die. Even a covered carpark also so hot during the day... rolleyes.gif u can even kill a baby if u leave inside hot car... let alone small tiny hamsters. I hope you learned your lesson well lor... maybe buy that travel cage thing so that you could always bring them out, I've seen some nice ones... one I saw in pets lover center in singapore... nearly bought it cos i didnt see it in malaysia.. tongue.gif it's sanko brand.

Oh, u can also check uptown night market at kota damansara... one stall sells this tank, come with string like handbag, so u can carry it on your shoulder. inside got water bottle, wheel and food bowl too! Cheap also, last time i ask it's RM30.

oh, thank for the info on breeder celect cat litter.
I think I will give it a try also when my corncob is finished. At the moment I am using only corncob as bedding for momo and changes it once a week. Sometimes, at the end of the week - her tank does smell too. sweat.gif laugh.gif

If you can't find breeder celect in the small animals bedding section, try looking for it at the cat litter section. Breeder celect is actually cat litter laugh.gif
