Hmm, 3 of my syrians are all babies and wild when I got them... I spend 1 hr (divided into few sessions) with each of them per day without failed (except that 2 nights I was gone to Singapore). That is why I am nocturnal too I cant do like you and put on my bed yet... first need to train them that when u pick them up, they are not about to be eaten, hahaha. Only mobee is now half tame... I so wish he'll get over the fact he will not be in my mouth when I pick him up.. sigh.

But Mokie and Miki are so fun to play with now! All my patience paid off

Crazymouse said syrian don't do sand bath... but yeah u can try of course. Only Mofo doesnt smell! The 3 babies... smelly!!! I don't know why too... but I have a feeling it could be the 1.5feet tank I use. Only Mofo in 2feet tank... i think the bigger the space, the less the odour...? I am not upgrading their tank until they are fully grown so for now... I just need to bear with their smell and wash their house and wheels often... they peed inside it ALL THE TIMES. Sigh.

u guy believe or not, my hamster smells like "pandan"
The 1st day l got him l thought the owner was accidently "spray" pandan on him, but later l found that the pandan smell is come from this little hamster, so suprise!

syrians do not need sand bath for bathing..
only dwarf hamsters do..

I didn't know that syrian doesn't need sand bath. I put Momo in a smaller tank with the sand bath everytime while i clean her 2ft tank. She doesn't smell but I just thought she might enjoy digging the sand. Momo does peed in her wheels too! She peed in her toilet but sometimes also at a corner of the tank.

By the way, this happened many years ago.
I was having 2 white mouse and those days don't have hamster food in the market. Those pet shop only sell some kind of mouse food and their shit and pee is really smelly.
I probably washed the cage every 2 days and my mom keep asking me to get rid of it since it was very smelly.
My current hamster cage after 7 days, still 10 times smell better.

Since I stayed in kampung area with Padi field behind my house, I got chance to get free padi when season came.
So I feed them with the padi and their shit became pandan smell so I got to keep my pet.

It works on the white mouse but I wonder whether it will be the same with Hamster.
(Though the padi field no longer there but I had asked my pakcik in the kampung to keep some when they harvest).

p/s: I even get free wood shavings from carpenter shop behind my house. Sigh. Good old days.

Well the 2 syrians I just put them in a small tank with bathing sand when we are cleaning their homes. Not together. Let them run around the tank and play with them about 10-15 mins.

Anyway JackJack doesn't smell much only Fumoffu. Not sure why but I think it is the 2 feet tank. Once open can smell all the dried pee smell. That is why we are mixing a few beddings together to hide the smell.

JackJack is in ZooZone2 tank. Actually for GP, rabbits, and chins but using for syrian

Yes. 21cm. I think there not much Sanko 21cm Wheels around. Been searching high and low to replace Fumoffu's Safari wheel.

How to give them once a week? Leave the sand for 2 hours then remove from the cage?

Do I change the sand every time I clean the cage ? (I clean cage once a week)

See the photo below. I found that they actually move some kuaci + wood shaving there and they shit there as well.

This is suppose to be their bathing Den. After 1 day, cannot see the sand anymore.

how much is the price for sanko wheel?
isnt the safari wheel already good enough for syrian?
or there are something wrong with safari wheel?

Actually I have a small tanks to keep them when I clean their homes. I will put bathing sand inside for them to run/dig around.

The sand can be reuse a few times before throwing.

They will poo everywhere even in the food bowl. My robos even sleep and eat in the toilet

Added on January 15, 2008, 4:06 pmWell if you did your research properly you would know that there is nothing wrong with the Safari Wheel but it is a little small for syrians as syrians requires wheels that are 8inches or more in diameter. The Safari wheel is 7inches I think (can't remember).

Sanko Wild 21cm (8.26 inches) Silent Wheel cost about RM60-70+. If JackJack runs on it, you can see that his back is straight instead of bending a little when running in Safari Wheel which is causing strain on his back. It's good for their backs when they are running in a bigger wheel.

erm, i fill the bottom of a small tank with bathing sand and let her play with it while i clean her normal tank. It is just for a while. Once her tank is clean and tidy I will remove her from the smaller tank and put her inside her regular one again. I also put some sand in a small container inside her tank for toilet purposes. She usually peed on it and sometimes she digs the sand out. This is regularly replaced.

Yes, safari wheel is good enough.
For my case, my momo is very attached to her wheel and she runs like crazy in it. Sometimes she run too fast and will knock her head there.
She usually sleeps at her wheel as well. Hence, I might look for a bigger one for her so she will run more comfortable in it.

Habitrail Safari wheel and playground wheel can be used for syrians. They are 7.5 inch.
MoFo can run inside, the backs did not arch but just muat muat only. That extra 0.5 inch does make a difference...
Mofo can't fit well in the normal wheel (like the one in my siggy picture with Miki). Now that wheel is a spare for the 3 babies.
Except for MoFo, the rest are using habitrail playground wheel. One day I will need to change for all of them, maybe 3-4 months down the road but for now, it works perfectly for them.

I bought the sanko 21cm wheel in singapore, here don't have stock yet. They only have the 17cm and the humongous 30cm. So hard to find good wheels here lah... so the most decent you can use is the habitrail wheels.

I think u better change venue to the proper bathing place (or ceramic bowl) and put in their main area. Anyway, it's a den sure they use it as a den lorrrrr... I cant remember if yours is syrian or dwarfs... if syrian, u dont need a bathing sand, just do like blurjoey lor... put them in a small tank filled with bathing sand while u do the cage cleaning

KP is doing bulk for wodent wheel which cost around rm70-80 i think..

KrazyPeaches? (hope I spell her name correct) That is Wodent Wheel Senior which is an 11inch wheel. I don't think it can fit a 2 feet tank or Jackjack's ZooZone2 But if someone is doing a bulk for the Wodent Wheel Junior 8" wheel then it will be just nice. And I will be the first to buy 2 of them

Yes, but she is doing it for wodent wheel sr, which might be a little too big to fit inside the 2 ft tank, as per what blurjoey mentioned.

Wodent is good and make sure you get Wodent Wheel Junior, measuring at 7 3/4 inch. They have 3, Junior, Senior and Wobust.
Senior measurement is 10 7/8 inch and Wobust is 12 inch. You can try the senior wheel but maybe it's a tad too big.
