Your loan detailed statement should tell you something.

See if there's the word "Ujrah". If no, then it'll very likely be conventional.

If I remembered correctly, 20% discount for full payment had ended on 2018 and never hear of further extension from subsequent budgets.

The 10% discount for PTPTN using Auto Debit / Deduction was discontinued by the PH government previously. So yea no discount. Not sure about full settlement though

PTPTN loan repayments put off for another three months

PUTRAJAYA (Jan 1): The government has agreed to extend the loan repayment period of National Higher Education Fund Corp (PTPTN) for another three months to eligible borrowers.

Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad said the decision was taken because the government was concerned and realised that there were PTPTN borrowers who were still affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and had not been able to repay their loans.

"PTPTN borrowers who are affected can submit applications through the PTPTN official portal from Jan 5 to March 31, 2021.

"The loan repayment postponement period starts from the month the extension application is approved," she said in a media statement here today.

Good to see this thread is used to assist people with problems with their PTPTN. Feel free to ask, there are people who will help given the time to respond.

Use this link to check if you're blocked from travelling - http://sspi2.imi.gov.my/. Please note its best to continue paying to avoid issues and checking does not necessarily mean you're safe to travel on that date. As we all know, there have been people who checked but were blocked on the day before their flight. Let's hope that's just a one-off. Best of luck and save travels!

My previous question:

Charges by PTPTN are appropriate, you take loan at low interest and pay only 3-4 years after disbursement upon finishing study.

Penangguhan Bayaran Balik Pinjaman PTPTN Dilanjutkan Selama Tiga (3) Bulan

Public can inquire, complain about PTPTN loan, SSPN through live chat service

KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 29): The National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) has introduced a live chat service as an alternative channel for customers to deal with the corporation.

In a statement issued today, PTPTN said through the live chat service, customers can check, inquire and complain about matters pertaining to education loans, loan repayment and the National Education Saving Scheme (SSPN).

“Customers only need to browse the PTPTN official portal at www.ptptn.gov.my and click on the 'Live Chat' icon to enable them to communicate directly with PTPTN officers who are always ready to provide feedback.

"Customers also do not need to have any new media accounts to use this facility," it said.

It said the PTPTN live chat service, which began operation last Sept 14, is available every Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm with 16 officers on duty, including a supervisor.

According to PTPTN, until last Dec 31, a total of 75,433 users chose the service, with a daily average of 993 users.

Hi guys, I just started to pay ptptn. I have a few questions here. Just curious about the ujrah thingy.

1. For example if my debt is 30k. The repayment time is 15 years. If I managed to finish paying the loan in 10 years, does that mean I will pay less for the interest, or the interest is fix even I finished paying earlier.

2. Let's say if I accidentally skipped one month payment, will I be charged for extra interest or principal cost? Even I repayed two months in the following month?

3. How do I know when is the date that is the deadline for me to pay every month? Will ptptn send me an email? I worry I miss the deadline and get charged for extra cost.

Thanks for answering.

1. It'll stop charging you interest when you finish paying.
2. If you look at your online ptptn statement, there is an ujrah charge every month.. If you miss 1 month payment, when you pay on the 2nd month, the payment will be used to settle 2*interest, only then minus from principal.. So if you split payment and pay twice in a month, it'll cover 2* ujrah.. Then the next month's payment will just be fully principal..
3. No email to remind you, but got email to thank you after you made payment.. Anytime within the month is okay.. I'm not sure if there is a cut off for the month's payment.. I think the most is just a '1' in your ccris.. Not too sure of the financial implications of forgetting a month of payment..

Hope this helps.

Hi Sarah, I have the same question as well, currently my repayment period is 20 years, loan principal is around 50k. The minimum payment every month is around 260, if I increase the amount to 500 per month, will I pay less interest in the long run? Or do I need to go to Ptptn and ask for a shorter repayment schedule in order to increase the payment amount? Sorry if this question sounds dumb, I have just started paying my Ptptn loan as well.

If your loan is under Ujrah, the Ujrah cost is fixed. Paying more won't impact this.

The only way to "save" this cost is to perform a full settlement. With this, they'll re-calculate everything and you may save up certain amount based on outstanding principal and remaining tenure.

Agree with what Grumpy is saying.. When you say that by paying Rm500 per month, you'll be paying less interest, that statement is correct cuz if you have made early settlement, then the remaining interest won't be charged to you.. Since the interest is added to your total owed every month, you will be saving on the ones that have not been added to your statement.. One thing I noticed is that I started paying off my loan before the start of my repayment month/year and they calculated the ujrah monthly based on the remaining amount at the start of repayment date.. So that might help you save some interest
