Waaa, u tattoo which part wor , wearing super mini skirt n sitting onli can c. U hinting sumthing? When getting tattoo some parts of body will hurt, depends.
When getting a tattoo must really think n choose carefully, coz its 4ever, although will fade abit after sumtime. But still can go do laser to remove it. Most important is dat u like it, nothing else matters. Overall i think ur tattoo not bad, except the middle design abit zzzzz.

Aiyah, RM200, wad do u expect? U watch too much of Miami Ink izzit, hehehe. To get the 1st tattoo is not easy thing for most ppl, have much thinking to do, for me la.

lol...
serious... the tattoo, to me very stiff... saw my friend did tattoo, very small tattoo and the curve was so nice, it's gave moving sense... i can see flexible for the tattoo...
serious i do not knwo the pricing, and experience in tattoo, just a little comment on the graphic & workmanship only...

Next time learn more about the tattoo artist work first.
Exactly... everyone just thinks that tattoo only have that black colour and go for simple motives. Should have seen more sample or even better, draw your own and ask the tattoo artists if it is possible

I'm thinking about a design like this but more into a 17th century sloop of war.
^ omg, that's GOT to hurt! it's on your rib! OUCH! (but it's nice ) my cousin has an entire back piece, a small one on his chest, another on his tummy, one around each upper arm and my mom tattooed both eyebrows and has tattooed eyeliner... My other cousin has one around his wrist, another cousin has one on her shoulder-blade, and the eldest cousin has one on her butt it's a wonder i don't have one yet.. oh yea, i'm FOURTEEN .. lol but i wouldn't want a tattoo - hard to get job and all that. I know that I sound so.. umm.. "ketinggalan zaman" but it's only true.
Though, I'm really interested in tattoos and body art ---> really interesting stuff

mine is on my lower back (it's gigantic, everybody says that when they see it) and on my right ankle. yeah that's what I think too...like when people meet me they think I'm all innocent asian and then they find out I have two tattoos and then they think I'm wild. I CAN go wild but I don't.

both pics were taken when the tattoos were fresh. hahaha thanks wintermelon.
haha the one on my ankle has dark blue flowers now...which I'm probably gonna try to lighten. No it doesn't touch the legbone...tattooing is putting ink under several layers of skin
I got a tattoo on my neck and back done using oil and white ink so it is invisible...It is Thai traditional tattoo not those using machine....It was done using a long stick like bamboo and some long needle or sharp point in front...I guess it's much more painful than the modern machine tat....Mine was just for religious and spiritual purposes.

It looks like a tattoo being laser-ed off. Did you get to choose the design or it's a fixed design since it's for religious purpose?
invisible? so cant really see it lo.. i just got mine over the weekend.. i redo wan.. coz i did it earlier and it wasn't up to satisfactory so i redo it same design, same place.. lower back..
wanna do another small tattoo ... maybe on my back of my hand not sure where are the good spots for girls..
this is a very simple lower back coz cant pick any >.<

Laser-ed off??? No, its traditional tat whereby a long woooden stick attached with sharp point in front and keep poking onto ur skin....We can choose but that time i just let the master to choose a suitable one for me...I just request for the "gao yord" on the neck....

Yup, cannot see it..IT is not for showing off or fashion purposes la fren ....Can feel the wounds during the first few days; the marks and line etc but after that cannot even see it and feel it...Heard that the master able to trace it even though it is invisible.....Sometimes i just can feel my back there very hot like fever...At some stages poweful master able to raise the yant to made u into trance.....Hopefully in the future wanna do visible one cz can self viewing...
i think is more about sensitivity....your lower back may be more sensitive than your foot since the skin is thicker
are u enjoy or unpleasant the pain when u tattooing?
i think most of the ppl who hv tattoo, they were quite enjoying the progress!!!cz im the one who reli enjoy tat moment!!! after i did my 1st tattoo, i was too exciting, run here n thr, thn my leg bleeding~~~~
better not to have too many of them. ppl tend to look at you like one kind. wonder why they have such thinking..

i saw ur tattoo frm d subforum, tats pretty!!! did they give u sumthing to apply on it? is tat ur 1st tattoo?
yeapz my first... they gave 2 things, some cleansing liquid n some oil (my fren said its coconut oil)...have to apply for like 3 days... after dat can apply with lotion d... they recommended rosken's dry skin lotion with vit E...
i'm glad my parents are not that conservative...i tot of payin myself but after seein the tatt they say they r sponsoring pula...
he actually drew it up as a sample but I liked it so I took it. he's not actually someone I can ask to draw something up anytime. Anyway you should be working with the artist who's gonna drill it into you.
This is another traditional tat done yesterday...Not even 24 hours yet still very new....Brand new year, brand new yant....yant paed tidt, yant itipiso, Kongrappan, Maha-ud, Maha-lap, and yant Metta...
where did u did ur traditional tatt? din know KL got ar..
I did it at Pudu...IF KL dun have then where have ? ...Although not every part of KL but still have, need to find...Some frens said Selayang also got...Johor, Penang, malacca, kedah and SINGapore also got....U have traditional tattoo also ? Can Share ?
i dont hav traditional but only digital one.. din know pudu got wor, how much does that cost? i oni know borneo sabah sarawak got le kekeke
Digital one ??? APa tu??? Modern tattoo like tribal ??? Done 6 months ago Neck and whole back Rm 300 plus free amulet from master ... I dunno bout Borneo Sabah and sarawak...Mine was Thai Buddhism Traditional Tattoo called ' Sak Yant '....Blessed and charm by master somemore got pantang larang to follow....Not easy...Suffer pain and also got rules...
digital tu normal one using machines one lo. wa 300 is quite cheap wo. must had took much more time to get it done comparing to the normal tatts.
Sure la...If u go Thai even more cheap 800 baht can do one large picture.....Reason why modern tattoo artist expensive because famous, rent, tools, sterils, equipment, ink and also copyright piece..My process definitely quite long...Need to bless and chant then poke...Luckily mine was invisible not ink, if ink need to do touch up more long time....
oh. i'll be goin there next year. if got time will get la.
Good for u..But before that do some survey 1st.....Find a good master to do it....Find a good and suitable design...If not later design not suit then u bad luck sui sui.....ANgelina Jolie Master is Ajarn Noo Gan Pai....He charged Rm1000+ ...DUn play play...
Oh ya, one more things...Ladies cannot sak below the waist...I think ladies has more restrictions..Better consult the master first...

Oh, I have a question. Recently I heard there's a tattoo, which is not permanent, but could lasts for about six months. Is it true? o_o
hw much of it? erm..........if tat's nt a permanent one, it will look abit fake of the ink
This post has been edited by witch: Dec 31 2007, 06:06 PM
Mumuz - Well not all of us want a permanent tattoo. Especially not me who'll always have doubts and regret things, I mean, sure maybe I'd like the tattoo I plan to get in a few months and years to come.. but I can't really be sure I'd still like it ten, fifteen years later.. if you get what I mean, haha. By the way if the tattoo is only a temporary one, it shouldn't hurt right? o_o.. I thought only the permanent one is the one that would hurt?
Witch - As for the 6 months thing, I really don't know.. which was why I asked if there really are such things o.o..
the design is quite different frm d tattoo tat we always taken!!!
sum of my frens, they tattoo the thai symbol at the back. they said it will help them in their business!!!
Of cuz it is diff from those modern tatts that u always taken...Not like tribal or whatever....As u can see there are some words at the tattoo...It is Pali sanskrit and NA symbol .....
Yes, u r rite...Some are good for bizness, some luck, some money, some gamble, and protectionwhatever it is as long as it suits u..There are many many type....Cannot simply sak....
I respect your opinion on that, but I have mine too. And mine says there's no rule stating one can't want or have a tattoo if it isn't permanent. What one wants is up to the person her/himself *shrugs*.. that's what I think anyways.
Ah. Sorry, didn't mean to go off-topic. I was just asking if it's TRUE there's such thing as a tattoo that could last for 6 months.. er, so does anyone know? I still want to find out. o__o
the WHOLE point of getting a tattoo is that it's permanent and for the rest of your life. If you're indecisive, don't get one.
totally agree with you i so wanted to have tattoo since my schooling days ahha.. no need to doubt about the pain and all wan la.. that means you're not really up for a tattoo yet.. if you really want one so badly.. whatever pain also you won't care lio..
Just take off clothes kasi tattoo lah Got towel lah..

Oh ya, if not mistaken for trad tatts ladies are not allowed to sak below waist....
Yup, for trad tatts only those "powerful" ones can be put in the middle of the body, but not at the sides of the body like shoulder blades or arms. And cannot sak below waist. So no tatts on the legs
Love the tattoo Mumuz! And the tattoo you plan to get is cute. xD
errrrrr thats not my tatt la...just drew it with g2 pen...i meant the design...i dun mind gettin somethin like that... mine is this one >>***
hahaha spunkberry, thats another reason y my parents dun let me do lower back...they didnt want me to expose my butt for ppl to see....lol...

I'm thinking of getting a tattoo done on my back... underneath my neck. This design but without the clouds though:
Where would you guys recommend? Dragonfly? I've been recommended Red Dragon in Sg. Wang but it's closed.
My mother is hitting 50 this year and has 6 tattoos- two on either side of her neck, one on the back of her neck, one on her foot, one on her leg, and another on her wrist and hand. This is the one on her foot, but she recently got it touched up and added on. Done in Culture Shock in KK though:
My Dad has one too... on the back of his neck

i did mine in dragonfly...i was quite worried bout the price at first but after readin replies from so many ppl from my previous thread, i realised that its not bout it at all...(though some of my frens said mines expensive...) most importantly hygiene...i was told that one new needle costs bout rm50 (both thick n thin)... n tatt design...i've heard of stories where tatt didnt turned out like wat was shown... n some places didnt even teach proper 'post-tatt' care...
*anyone from ipoh ere??i saw one new tatt place in hiphop@parade...glad to find one there cuz usually ppl do their tatts in that creepy yikfoong d:

I did mine at lower back 4 years back but yet to go back and touch up. Now, need to get another 1 at ankle.
Went back to Borneo Ink, schedule appointment end of feb which is the nearest available date.
First think of getting a "feather"... but after look into the design book, found that "butterfly" also not bad. Guys, any opinion, butterfly or feather?
i just got a new tattoo 2 days ago. a sort of birthday present for myself. personally i find tribal designs boring, so i went for something realistic.
in the end...i did a snake. a python..with nice shadings and all.
a lot of ppl dun understand why i chose snake..and they say its not feminine..i didnt care wat they said and went ahead with it. even the tattoo artist said in his 10 years experience i'm the first female customer to get a real snake tattoo..so it means i'm unique!
now i super worried what my parents would say. i had one 5 years ago and they were cool with it. this time its much bigger (and a snake!) so i'm a bit worried..sure give them a shock. hope they dun disown me. :\

wow a phyton for a girl? wait.. u ARE a girl rite?
sorry meant to attach the photo with my earlier post but i was too lazy to upload the photos. anyway here they are: the chinese character is my name and it was done 5 years ago. it wasnt done properly, as u can see it sort of bulges out and the ink has faded to dark navy blue instead of black. the snake was added on 3 days ago as i mentioned. and that brown dot over there, ya thats my mole
the position of the tattoo - on my right shoulder blade.
i really like the snake lor, cos of the detail. but a lot of my frens dun like cos they said why a girl put a snake. i know it doesnt look feminine at all but its unique dammit!
Did mine on Thaipusam day... didn't really hurt. In fact, could doze off, lol! Was at Sg. Wang that time also with the intention of inquiring about tattoo prices, and then we found my mother's old tattoo artist from Red Dragon at Spec Body Art & Tattoo, along with another guy from there also.
So got my tattoo for RM 250. More expensive than what my mother paid for when she had hers done, but prices have gone up, so meh. Plus, we know the handiwork of the artists so why not
Taken a day after the tattoo- it looks very thick and raised because it was quite scabby and dry and peeling off... lol. Now it's 98% healed. Will take another photo of it soon
every tattoo is supposed to b significant...wats the point of goin thru the pain n then seeing it disappear after 6 mths?
i thin k 6 months tattoo is good. let you think carefully if this is something u want for life. if not later cannot change already. test out first if this tatoo u really like. if u dont like it will traumatize your whole life .

I hope there will be more pix of tattoo's being posted.
Just wondering is there a thread for tattoo for guys in LYN?

i wanna get one somewhere near my hand but im undecided.............. i've one ady at the back of my shoulder..... i think is sexy somewhere between your neck and shoulder .......
My first tattoo. Did it in Singapore. Cost me SGD250.
Its on the back of my right shoulder blade. Wanted something feminine and colorful. I still don't know what flowe is this supposed to be, but the color and details of the tattoo is so perfect that it still looks 'fresh' after 4 years.
Not as painful as i expected it to be.
My 2nd tattoo. Did it in Borneo Ink by Lina. Cost me RM400.
Its on my left ribs. Wanted something colorful initially but i can't find a nice design. The designs available in Borneo Ink was too muscular for me. i always love designs which are feminine, especially leaves, curvy designs, etc. So i did a more feminine version of curvy tribal black
This hurts like hell. Its the most painful part to do. But i managed to have it all done in one day, after sweating at least a bucket of cold sweat
My 3rd tattoo. Did it in Borneo Ink by Eddie. Cost me RM250
Its on the right side of my ankle. Its consider as black and white. Told Eddie i wanted a peacock feather and he drew it for me.
This don't hurt at all.
As for my 4th tattoo, i am contemplating of doing my initial 'D' at the left side of my neck.
thats rite but then i don like the combination of color.......... i wanna make another one somewhere near my finger....
near ur finger? where? on the back of ur palm or...?
omg all this tattoo talks are making me want another one..eventho i just got a new one 3 months ago. so addictive thank god for my strict parents and my financial constraint..if not i'll be covered in tatts now

yea... body parts with joints like fingers, wristss, elbows, knees, etc... not advisable coz the skin stretch n retract too much, it will ruin the tattoo

left or right upper CHEST!!!, lower right or left back (its lower from the normal girl's lower back tattoo, from panty line there so that when u wear normal pants u can actually show half of it), top left or right back, at the back of yr neck and lastly your thigh.

lol my boyfriend actually told me that if I had a tattoo of a butterfly or any animal, he wouldn't like the tattoos at all. I'm glad I didn't though, just cos of that AND I think butterflies, dragonflies, roses and scorpions are SO common. He constantly looks at my lower back tattoo though. xD

If I'm him I would stare look at your tattoo also. It's nice
thanks. I'm a little self conscious about it especially when I think about wearing bikinis...but then I think again and I think it's nice. My feelings about my tattoo change every day. LOL
anyone can tell me..where can do temporary tattoos like those mentioned earlier in this thread??temporary tattoos that last up to 6 months....preferably in subang and sunway area la..

eh i feel the same. my sisters arent helping when they keep reminding me abt weddings...especially my OWN wedding. sometimes i feel worried also cos what if i need to attend family reunions or big functions, i cant wear revealing clothes cos i'd feel conscious abt wat ppl might say, especially those uncles and aunties. scared they blame my parents and all..haihz. those aside, i really really like my tattoo. mixed feelings :\
nope not henna...i mean those normal tattoo but it only last for half a year... i thought i saw someone mentioned something bout temporary tattoo earlier on...if the person meant henna...then nothing ad la...coz i always wanted to have one..just worried that i might regret it one day when i'm older..lolz..and was wondering how would i look like with a tattoo...hahaha...
Well, tattoos are personal to some and a fashion to others.
To me, tattoos symbolizes you and what you belief in. But as far as pain, it only hurts for 1/2 hour the other 3 hours, i just fell asleep. very relaxing and addictive. I will be getting my 5th one soon.

U nvr know until u see a girl with a tat on her upper chest.
No lah Tattoos are permanent to the skin, just like some girls don't like guys with facial hair, I don't like girls with tattoos all over the place. To me it's a sign of immaturity. Looks pretty ugly too.
But it's a matter of preference I never say it's wrong.
Whatever the purpose I don't think it has any strong and educative objective. Most of you girls do it for fun or to show off or do as some kind of statement.
Bleh, if you want to make some kind of statement, show it in your character rather than your tattoo.

define manhood. A beard to me doesn't mean he's really a man in the first place.

a tattoo is a body art. some ppl just like to express the appreciation of the art by etching it on their skins.
tho i do agree that a lot of ppl have them done just for fun, which i totally disagree on... for me, a tattoo should be sth significant to u personally

Believe it or not, my tattoo will feel warm when there's danger ahead. True enough, tattoo feels warm, I stopped walking. A bike sped thru in front of me missing me by an inch.

Interesting, what made you tattoo an amulet in the first place? Kena attacked by unseen force?
I'm accident prone. I dun wanna list out how I get so many scars on my body But now it's better. Gonna go to Thailand to "recharge" (bless) the "sak yant" (tattoo)

My harby chose the pattern for me.. It's located at the left of my shoulder blade. It's very meaningful to me.. it means that he always got my back.. hehe
I did it at Borneo Ink at Sri Hartamas for RM250 for 45 mins No pain no gain
How to remove a tattoo. wats the average cost like . and how long it can be fully removed
laser surgery, as i've heard it hurts more than getting tattoo itself. i assume it costs more too. i suppose thats why most ppl opt for cover jobs instead of removals

I heard it's about 1K plus... and it's not done in a single session.. a couple of times to be really specific..

laser removal still leaves a white scar of the tattoo...so instead of a black/colored tattoo...you get a white outline of the tattoo...so there's like no point

hmm yeah true also.. so better think more than twice before getting a tattoo!!
wow some of you hv really cool tattoos. I've always wanted to get one but haven't properly decided on the design. My parents are okay about it because my dad has one anyway.
Im not going to get it in KL tho, i find that its a bit too expensive. I'll be in KK in July so planning to do it there. Saving up for it now. Going to do it on the back of my right shoulder. Somewhere like here.
I want to get something like this but modify it to include some Sarawakian tribal design (coz i'm sarawakian and want to show off my heritage in a tattoo). What do u guys think?
i really dont think that just because you dont like butterflies or flowers which are 'boring and not unique' that you should sigh and fuss when someone else wants to get it. Its getting really annoying with every post about a butterfly you give some kinda comment.
in the end, its about what the person wants isnt it? tattoos represent something in the person's life so if that something happens to be represented by a butterfly or flower then so be it.

Wow.. butterfly designs are getting kinda common. What does it symbolize?
P/S: Mine is a butterfly too. My represents harmony, leadership and protection.

Only girls allowed to show off their tattoos here?
Err.. Did you girls ever think how fugly it going to be when you get old and wrinkling wrinkling?
it depends where's your tattoo at... and it doesn't matter.. what matters is NOW... do it when you have the chance... you won't be able to do it when you're wrinkly..
yeah i gotta agree about spunkberry and butterflies. i noticed everytime someone posts a butterfly tattoo design, you give some sort of reply. go check out what you said after i posted my picture. yeah it's your two cents about butterfly tattoos but do you really have to *sigh* about it and stuff. that's MY two cents
LOL bash me about sighing...you people are HILARIOUS. I bet if it was your opinion you wouldn't mind saying it over and over again when people come in and talk about whatever you don't find interesting. This time I didn't say A WORD...and I still kena. Wow. Anyway, as if I care about what you think of me.

well, any1 can suggest good tattoo shops around selangor?? i heard that Red Dragon was good, but they were closed down edi...
i'm not sure which tattoo shop should i go for... i heard that Sri Hartamas there got 1 tattoo artist very famous 1... any1 tried there b4? how?
or any other suggestion?
Red Dragon was NOT good..that's why they closed down -.- had my first tatt there, bad work the famous tattoo shops are those few le - borner ink, dragonfly (dragonfly does tattoo right?!) and erm, dunno anymore haha. sg wang has some tattoo shops, but i have doubts regarding their quality.
if u ask me..of cos i said INKED in sunway la! here i go advertising for them again.
saru888: hey bro. for great tattoos. go to blackcat tattoo studio in sunway. its located in pyramid, the new wing's asian avenue. i swear by their work man. its awesome, imho, they're much better than borneo ink. but one man's meat is another man's poison, so the best would be checking it out yourself, as tattoos are very subjective, different people view these works of art differently
xsaintx: haha on the other hand, i got no idea where is INKED. however borneo ink's located at desa sri hartamas. its at the other end of cristos. the row of shops beside the pay-per-hour carpark
ouh sorry, i said they didnt do a great job on coloring lina. =) she is nice! but she din color my tattoo properly. i need a touch up. but i dowanna go back to them. where shud i go?
Go back there but ask for Simon instead as Eddie is working in the States now.

hey i did my tatt at borneo ink too.. lina is still amateur..she started doing tatts not long ago.. do you know that her charges are lower comparing to eddie and simon? and i heard her work isn't that good either.. when you book for an appt. ask for simon.. lina does black and white okay.. but not colored..
ouh sorry, i said they didnt do a great job on coloring
ooops mis-read. sorry my bad. hmm maybe u SHOULD go back to them, tell them they didnt do a great job last time and demand for a compensation - free touch up. =p

butterflydarling: actually the norm around studios here is the 1st touch up is free. in comparison to simon, lina's considered a lil unexperienced as said above, she had been tattooing for not long. a few of my friends were tattooed by lina, but if you are interested, you can drop by blackcat tattoo, all my tattoos were done there and imho, the artwork there and color surpasses borneo ink's by many levels.
heyguys, i hav a thai tattoo n it's as cool as other body art..u guys should try this beautiful yet spiritually powerful tattoo..it works!mine is 4 good luck n money luck!!

1) Can anyone recommend me a good tattoo parlor in KL? Want to get a tribal half-sleeve tattoo (an extension from the old tattoo across my arm [left bicep area]) and since it's exposed, it has to be nice or me and my skin would be fecked. So can anyone recommend me a good one who can ink complicated designs? Do bear in mind, I am hoping to look for a studio which has proper hygiene that sterilizes their tools. (Would it be weird if I asked them to sterilize their tools in front of me? )
2) Is it true that the more skilled the artist, the less it'd hurt? If so, tell me which is the best one to go to!!
3) Anyway to check what kind of ink is FDA approved and what would be the procedures after the tattoo (such as how long do I keep it bandaged or away from water and so on and so forth)?
3) Which part of the body would hurt the least to have a tattoo on? IINM, necks are the most receptive part of the body to pain? Does anyone know about this or is it a myth?
4) Anything that I should know of before selecting a tattoo parlor?
Cheers and thanks in advance for an answer.

1) everyone highly recommends borneo ink. but i didnt get mine thr, and the waiting list is damn long. i've said it many times and im gonna say it again...do consider INKED at sunway. http://profiles.friendster.com/12662254 <-- this is the frenster profile of the owner/tattooist mr benny. can see some of his work thr. he did my snake tattoo, and its good. juz dont go to sg wang those places..i doubt their quality. i think all studio sterilizes their tool. u can ask them to open the new needle in front of u, actually they shud do that.
2) yes i think this is true. it would hurt less and the tattoo will heal faster. and a good tattoo will be smooth like ur skin, it shouldn't bulge out like scar.
3) u can remove the bandage after 1 hour or so. just wash it gently with soap water and apply the bepanthen cream daily. stay away from chlorine water (no swimming!) and erm seafood la basically. its gonna be damn itchy when healing so dont ever scratch it!
3) the least painful part..haha i have no idea. for me tattoo doesnt hurt at all =p thats becos i havent try getting my neck or spine area tattooed. heard its pretty damn pain thr.
4) know what u want..tattoo artists hate indecisive and fickle minded customers. be specific with wat design u wish to have. communicate well with the artist. look at his/her works first before getting inked by him/her. and survey the price to avoid getting ripped off.
hmm i could only think of this for now. happy getting inked. so jealous :\

1) What's the waiting list there like? And is Mr Benny skilled?
2) WTH?! The parlor didn't ask me to apply any cream or whatever. He just asked me to refrain from swimming, gym and seafood and asked me not to bath that area too much (forgot what was the reason he gave). But in any case, what's with the bepanthen cream?
3) About the ink, any way to find out what kind of ink he uses? Again, I'd like to make sure that a wide area job uses safe ink.
4) Where did you have yours inked? AFAIK arms, naval and buttocks hurt the least. Mind me asking, did you do anything to prepare for the pain? I actually used a mechanical pencil tip to scrap against my skin to prepare before my first tattoo.
5) Well, yeah lah, I already had the design and printed it out but just looking for the right parlor.

2) its sort of antiseptic cream to help it heal faster le. can be bought in pharmacy.
3) u can go to the studio and see the type of ink i guess?
4) i did twice on my right shoulder blade. i didnt do anything to prepare for the pain le..i was kinda looking forward to it summore. call me masochist...hhaha
Oh ya, just sharing, anyone watched The Tattooist? It's a 2007 movie I think.
And with that comes the chuckles when the latter line is uttered by Singaporean actor Gerald Chew. The Tattooist is the second New Zealand horror movie to hit our screens here this year (the other being The Ferryman), and this one marks the first Singapore-New Zealand joint venture, with others like Kelvin Tong's Maid sequel being rumoured to be some collaborative effort of this nature as well.
Starring Jason Behr, who resembled Lorenzo Lamas in his previous big screen movie outing with the SkinWalkers, he ditches the long hair and beard for a closer crop, and takes on the titular role as a tattooist who is in Singapore for a Tattoo Exposition, held at the Capitol area. Locals will know that no such area exists (Capitol is just waiting to be refurbished/demolished), and the first 20 minutes of this movie actually had a very sexy vibe to how night time Singapore is portrayed, with its beautiful skyline, and many shots that would have made the Singapore Tourism Board give it its stamp of approval.
Some believe that tattoos give its wearer some mystical properties, as explained in movies like Spider Lilies, and perhaps that's why more than often the creatures drawn on people include fierce ones like tigers and mythical ones like phoenixes and dragons. Rarely, or never at all, do you see a ***** cat, or a rat (if you do, let me know!). Behr's Jake Sawyer earns a living giving tattoos that he hawks as tattoos that can "heal", although being a disbeliever of such prowess, and at the Expo, gets his interest piqued by the Samoan tradition of the art.
OK, so actually he's more interested in Sina (Mia Blake), whom he saw at the Expo, and prior to his journey to New Zealand to learn more of Tatau, he had "borrowed" an old tattoo tool, which to the audience, spells trouble - such stuff can only contain curses, spirits and what- have-yous. And when blessed accidentally with fresh blood from Sawyer's palm, it seems that Sawyer's customers thereafter become victims of strange deaths, spewing tattoo ink and experiencing death by tattoo art. Nonetheless it's up to Sawyer to find out the root cause in a race against time, especially when his lady love is also put at risk.
To add some depth and contribute to the reasons necessary for things that go bump, the theme of shame is examined in the rituals of the Samoan people, which is similar to the value of "face" to the Chinese. Things that bring dishonor to the family is widely frowned upon, and this discrimination brings about unhealthy relationships, especially amongst blood relations. Ultimately, it boils down to interpretation, and the selfishness of man to preserve what is deemed socially acceptable, and the measures taken to preserve mindsets and individual honor.
Director Peter Burger doesn't deliver an outright horror movie, but it seemed more along the lines of a mystery thriller. You don't get the usual tricks like shadowy figures, creaky doors, sudden slamming of furniture, bellowing winds or musical crescendos. In fact, you don't get much of that at all, only the occasional figure seen in a reflective surface, and even then done so low key, it surprisingly doesn't even raise a goose-bump. The way the narrative played out was in the vein of horror movies like Shutter, but without the unexpectedly frightening bits. It was as if the movie was in self-censorship mode, reeling back from full gory details, choosing to let the mind imagine what horrible fates have befallen the unfortunate victims.
And speaking of censorship, I booed at the badly butchered removal of a sex scene. Instead of bowing to box office pressure of an NC16 release, I thought the distributors could have submitted it for a higher rating, thus keeping the movie intact for its inaugural Sin-NZ production, but sorry. The movie boasted excellent production values, so it was a pity to have the experience marred by a bad cut. There were some off-moments in the movie, like the kid-medium and his homies, but taken as a whole, The Tattooist is a surprisingly entertaining mystery thriller that will probably pave the way for more quality (hopefully) collaborations to come.
jason behr..! couldnt catch it that time cos i was bz with exams and assignments..anyway heard from a fren that its damn scary, i dun think too much of his review since he's a coward and anything ghostly is scary to him. my tattooist however said it sux. will watch it if i have the chance, tho. dvd..anyone? =p
this is my 1st tattoo. Both Art work by dragonfly 1 Utama. Some ppl said they are expensive, but for me good workmanship is priceless.

Boring storyline but cool tattoos. The best scene was when the girl touching his body before they make love. Watch it and you will find the scene is freaking awesome as well.
@WingSheong : My friends got their tattoos done there as well. Very very very very very reasonable price and nice artwork.

I dont understand why a woman would want to do this to herself ? I mean i like my female friends and girls just the way they are , I mean their skin is do dam soft and fragrant and all they gotta do is wear something nice , that makes them pretty .
May I inquire why women get tatoos in the first place , Just for yourself ? I think tatoos are just self mutilation and has no real purpose ! ,

Geez! You should stop shaving yourself! You're mutilating your body! Hair is part of your body!

Tattoo is a form of body art, like embroidery, its the same thing. Why women wanted to do embroidery? Somehow its also known as permanent makeup.

One thing about tattoo = instead of asking for a cheap price, ask for the tattooist reputation. You dun want your tattoo to become tanglung the next day, right?

judging from the price i guess ur tattoo is kinda simple n small? thats the normal price for a simple word. which shop in sg wang? like wat suiteng mentioned, take a look at the tattooist's work first before deciding..

wat do u mean by become 'tanglung'? become lantern? sorry i noob in tattoo...dunno all this term.........
is any tattoo shop that u all can recommend me with reasonable price with good quality work? btw.... ya the words arent really that big...should be ard 2-3 inches in height and 2 inches width.... its kinda simple...but its very meaningful to me...its not just for presenting or showing off to others...its more for myself...AND what u guys meant by checking out the artist's reputation?

thats quite selfish quote isnt it? you might not like the tattoos but it doesnt mean others. and when someone like tattoos usually into bodyarts..
i dont see self mutilation... i see a person obsessed with art.
some made tattoo for fun, but some tattoos has meaning in their lives.

meaning u need to find out for urself whether ur tattooist is skilled or not ask around for ppl's opinions on his/her works, see whether he got good or bad reputation as a tattooist. check out his previous works too.

everybody has their own preferences. they dunno how to appreciate the beauty of tattoos..its ok =p
hmm....icic....thx for the advise...then is there any place that u all know that the tattoo artist has good work?recommend?
everyone sure recommend borneo ink. damn famous. but a bit expensive due to their reputation, not to mention their long waiting list. however u can still check out that place, they're damn skilled.
other places: dragonfly at 1U or inked at sunway or this place in petaling street (dunno the name n the exact location..have to ask others).
i think sg wang also got good ones la..but im not sure where and who.

150 for a small letter is kinda expensive. any touch up for the same tattoo shud be free anyway. how old was ur tattoo when u realized it was fading? sometimes no matter how u take care of it, if the quality of work and ink is lousy it will fade very fast. example would be my first tattoo, got it 5 years ago at sg wang for rm70. lousy work resulted in fading ink and it bulges out.

oh after i do around 1 or 2 month plus...however he mention that i need to go back for touch up.... after touch up...not actually touch up...is a total redo...cause i never take care the tattoo... now i satisfy...yeah its expensive for a small tattoo...i did it last year before cny...

OOOhhh, Thats damn sick ler....u must have courage to do that. do u move a lot when doing that tattoo.. cos very sensitive spot ler
not courageous but crazy.... didn't moved much but at times the tattoo artist have to clamp my body with his other arm cause i'm inching away bit by bit... most of the time i'm just focusing on reminding myself to breath and relax my body cause i went totally rigid and my legs starts cramping.

i thinking of having one on my arms... >.< but need to something meaningfull right?
contrary to what most ppl think, i do not think it is a MUST to have a meaning/story/reason behind ur tattoo. for me tattoo is an art. as long as it looks fantastic, makes sense, and ever-green...i dont see why u have to forcefully find something meaningful to associate it with.
like my tattoos..no meaning wan wor. one is my name in chinese la. is tat considered meaningful? then i added a snake. why snake? i also dunno. i like la.
of cos, tat is only my own opinion.
ok la..dont want direct ppl onto wrong path..it is better if its meaningful.....zzz.

Agree....sometimes the tattoo has no meaning, but the most important thing is that u must like it. Dont push urself too hard, maybe u might find something u like one day when u come across some magazine, internet or even some books.Or even ur own idea.
as promised guys and girls, these two are two of the many pictures of my tattoos i managed to get today. one was taken fresh right after the tattoo was completed, (pardon the gory blood there ) and the other was taken at a much later period after completion. C&C most welcome!

Hei guys , I have a question . Does all this tattoo & piercings shop need a license that the Malaysia govenment recognise ? Something like the kesihatan thing or what ?? Is it legal in Malaysia doing tattoo & piercings ?
Will it come to one day that the gov. wil ask all of the tattoo & piercings shop to close because of no license or they dont recognise it ? ?
xsaintx: haha yeap you're right. anyway you have any other tattoos on you? looking forward to seeing it in person. i always feel pictures don't do tattoos justice hehe. where you did yours anyway? and since the price u told everyone dy haha, how much did it cost u?
v.v: definitely its legal. cos think about it in this way, tattoos studios need to register before they can actually open a shop rite? hehe... but there are still tattoo artists who do it from home i guess...
