i did fire couple arrows at genting theme but i already lost interest coz of my lousy shot or lousy bow..? i like hunting and other out door activities.. i used to shot couple hundred cartridge/bug shot using my dad semi auto shotgun mostly on birds and ayam hutan (wild chiken?) but never bigger than boar.. i just notice tat we can have a bow whitout the need of licences like firearm, if not mistaken..? or i need to join archery club..? im interest to buy a hunting compound bow, myb a 2nd hand one with high fps (310+).. for game hunting boar to deer size (permitted game)..

of course at 1st i need to train my archery skill.. tongue.gif i really amazed by PSE Omen with fps 366-380 range 55m bulleye 5 arrows shots straight.. shocking.gif just wondering how much it cost here.. hmm.gif

i oso play in sunway only, but kinda felt weird i never thought the arrow got one small slit to rest on the bow, are all arrows like that?
*
what do you mean by one small slit??is it the end of the arrow??

it is call the NOCK....for recurve and compound are almost compulsory...coz it will make the arrow form and straight before shooting...

Does anyone know where is the best place to learn archery in the Kepong/PJ area? I'm considering buying a beginner's package alongside the Samick Polaris from Lion Archery/UFL as well, does anyone know any other distributors, and roughly how much I should expect to pay?

hi paul,

i dont know about PJ but last i know Kepong got place to training....

just go to LASport or UFL if you want to buy...package complete for Samick i think around RM1200-2000 depend on the riser, limb and others accessories....

go for aluminium riser since it more tough and realiable and for long term...

of you want to get an idea, go to this site: the price is state on the item

Memang bergaya abang sarjan.

Not sure of place to learn and train in Ipoh.
I think this are the few things you can do :
1) You can ask the Perak state archery association.
2) You can come down to KL every week since there are a few places in KL that provide archery range.
3) Find out the nearest archery shop and enquire if they provid archery classes or not.

Me a newbie oso.

yes can bro...but in Malaysia, this type of game still not very popular and sometimes almost illegal if you hunt endanger species....

but if you have a kebun, you can have and use it...animal like piggy, boar, biawak can be hunt down...

for sports, you can go to any indoor archery range and shoot it..but you have to tweak the poundage to lower..if not, the arrow will penetrate very deep...and damage your arrow...

or your can find any outdoor range if have...try in different range..from 15m to 90m...

Hi,, I play archery at Stars Archery at Sunway Pyramid only. I am interested to pursue archery further. anyone have any info on training places, coaches, or friends I could contact to learn more?

btw, I'm in shah alam.. nice meeting all of you. smile.gif
*
For training places, based on this forum :
1) LA Sports (formerly Lion Archery) - in Kepong (I think in Bandar Menjalara)
2) Expert Archery - Shah Alam
3) There is a club in Bukit Jelutong run by a web-based archery items seller
4) MSN in Keramat, KL

Me also plays at Star Archery, Sunway Pyramid. Now contemplating to go serious into target archery.
Still compiling information on all things related to archery and also saving enough to get myself a new set of recurve bow and arrows.

Hi Sarjan,
thxs for de tips.. what is a decent compound bow to get started?
Im thinking of just getting a compound that shoot >300fps or more.
and double up as a hunting tool. I do own a farm but i dunno
how to shoot yet and i dun wanna spend twice for a bow.
Whats your recommendation and what kinda of budget to get
me started with a decent gear? thanks bro

they are many brand...but PSE or Hoyt are some of the best...and so many others bow...price range from as low as RM1x00(the light poundage, non adjustable, not so much accessories) to RM1x000(higher poundage, adjustable, good frame and a lot of accessories)..

if i'm not mistaken, all compound bow are pre tune to 50lbs...but you can tune it back to make it lighter..36-40lbs are good for start...again depend on your body, draw length...

for practise, find any good indoor range or outdoor range...also you can find on internet on how to DIY the target butts...using an everyday items....or you simply can buy the target butt

If you goto LA Sports(Bandar Menjalara, Kepong), they will recomend you Mathews brand or Browning brand.
MAthews Reezen is between 40-70lbs , adjustable, Mission by Mathews is 30-70lbs, adjustable.
The Browning Barracuda is fixed at 40lbs.
Another place to start searching is lelong.com under sabrearcher. Sometimes they do have decent (new or used) compound bow for sale.
For budget, give yourself between RM2.5K - RM3.5K for an average compound bow + some basic accessories.
