hi all,
my old wooden recurve had a broken limb... it's a very very old stop production W&W. the limb is a screw on type, not like nowadays the click on type. Would like to find a replacement if any of you know where to get. Preferably minimum 28lbs. else, if anyone letting go his/her old recurve poundage above 32lbs, please let me know. if all didn't go as wanted... then i might want to sell off my carbon arrows. i think i have 24 of them. should have more than 18 un-cut. Some of them are on the curvy fletcher. i still have 2bags of these fletchers only opened to fit on the few arrows i used for competition last time. Thanks. Nobody visits this thread anymore?
Wanted to ask whether there are any cheap ways of practicing Archery for Beginners? Visiting Indoor Shooting Range is not very feasible if you're going to be using many arrows. Are there any places whereby you bring your own bow + arrows and you're just renting the place/venue? I am based in Cheras. What would be a good price for a recurve bow for Beginners? |

Good stuff sarjan.... I bought a compound bow at UFL near kepong... a month ago.....They are the main distributor of archery stuff in Malaysia...
Anyway, a friend make use of an empty cemetery area... got good 200m of unused land that we make a shooting range... So we place a target given by SUKMA people... got 4~5 of them.. so we put them at 20m, 50m and 90m... Got great fun... |

QUOTE(Silverfire @ Jul 29 2012, 12:16 AM) I'm new to the sports and thinking to get a bow myself. Compound or recurve? I was advised to get a compound by an experienced UFL guy. Now have been shooting for a month. No regret. I will surely get a recurve in the future, but a compound really drop my jaw looking at the power and speed of the arrow hitting the target.... http://www.huntersfriend.com/draw-length-weight.htm http://www.huntersfriend.com/bowselection.htm Added on July 29, 2012, 9:17 pmHere is our self made archery range... members only This post has been edited by Masculine: Jul 29 2012, 09:17 PM |

So take my comment with a pinch of salt...i believe in the olympic they using a recurve bow shooting a target 70m away. I think (i say here, i think) recurve arrow speed is slower compared to arrow coming out of compound bow. Therefore, olympians have to aim higher to reach the distance. I shoot compound bow. According to the bow specification, my arrow speed is somewhere 270~300km/h. When I shoot target 50m away and there is very little drop. Almost a straight line. I can hear the thump sound of the arrow hitting the target almost immediately. For the olympics, i dont tthink the athlete shoot base on feeling. They got the bow sight and make adjustment accordingly.... just my 2 cents.... saya budak baru belajar... |

Any outdoor archery available around PJ area? I really wanna get back to this sport.
I have yet to get my own bow but I want to in the future. I am interested in recurve bow. Most people likes compound bow. Anyone can PM me a place / club to do recurve outdoor archery? Haven't played in awhile so my game is totally out. |

QUOTE(Masculine @ Jul 30 2012, 06:56 PM) first of all, i'm just started shooting a month ago. So take my comment with a pinch of salt... Basically what Masculine said is correct since the limbs' poundage for compound bows are much higher than recurve bows. Olympic recurve men archers on average use 42lbs limbs whereas women use 38lbs.i believe in the olympic they using a recurve bow shooting a target 70m away. They got the bow sight and make adjustment accordingly.... just my 2 cents.... saya budak baru belajar... On the other hand limbs for compound bow are of at least 50lbs.. It is tougher to draw at first but after drawing a certain length, the complex mechanism involving the wheels lets you feel like you are drawing on a 20lbs recurve limb (I'm not exactly sure since I'm a recurve archer, just heard this from my captain). Hence the limbs store a lot of energy due to the high poundage and so the arrows can fly much faster and less elevation is needed to compensate for the drop, as opposed to recurve bows. And you don't do sighting using feeling.. that is achieved through practice so that you can know where to shift your sights when you are shooting a particular range. |

QUOTE(sniperz @ Aug 13 2012, 05:32 PM) I have thought of Archery because it always makes me really fond of being artistic. I have no idea about Kuching but I do know that they have a training centre. Last time, I was in Miri, hence my training centre was naturally Kings Archery CentreI'm just curious is there any training center or so at Sarawak, Kuching? I'm interested to promote this sport as well if I achieved something. QUOTE(KeMM @ Sep 14 2012, 04:32 PM) Hi,, I play archery at Stars Archery at Sunway Pyramid only.
