Chances of existing companies using SAP R/3 migrating over to Oracle or Microsoft (LOL @ this one), are minimal. They spent way too much to justify the change.

What is the chances of the SCO versus Novel/IBM/Linux happening here? Which mean, Oracle is going to go to the end users who're using the stolen IP from Oracle?

SAP is a monstrous system. The company has to be able to justify why it is moving from SAP to oracle / microsoft . Dont forget SAP itself is also evolutioning.

The total cost to migrate over is not small. It could be in the hundred of millions depending on company size. And there's some hidden cost to train ppl to use the new system etc. Too big of an impact unless you could tell me oracle / microsoft can come out with something that can offer way more than what SAP cant.

Regarding the future of SAP, a giant like SAP will not go down at just 1.3b.
If it really does, it is BEYOND our control. We shud just adapt to what may come.
Let's not view ourself as a consultant for SAP. Let's view ourself as a ERP/System consultant. Do you think business processes for the next 50 years will change so drastically that they are not going to have HR, Acct/Finance, Production etc etc anymore?

At the most, they are just going to refine how they conduct their business just like JIT production method or implementation of GST. The essence is still there, debit credit, debtors ageing, balance sheet, KPI, etc etc.

If you are able to understand how the business works, SAP or Oracle for that matter is just a tool for you to implement.

hmm.. A question over here.
Lets say i wanna get myself involved in SAP with a degree in Computer Science i guess the most appropriate module is technical.
However, what if i insist of going into functional?
As a degree holder of Comp Sci and working experience as a software developer which leads to
almost zero domain knowledge ( such as FI etc etc ) perhaps the only method is to take up Msc Finance before venture into FI? It is ok to take up Msc Finance but consideration of time and cost to finish both courses seems high. Therefore, before moving into any mistakes, i do wish to get advice on how i should move my step.

* FI, Msc Finance just an example smile.gif

thx =)

Rule of Thumb: Anything which requires payment on supposedly "free things(scholarship)" are usually a scam.
