How Many Hours Of Sleep For Not Getting Headaches

Just doing a survey on sleep patterns as I noticed some people have less sleeping less hours. Young people in their twenties or early to mid thirties may cope better in the sense that they do not experience any headaches or health complications even if getting less sleep or no sleep at all. If I have less than 6 hours of sleep I will usually get headaches and don't feel good throughout the day, so I'm curious how do other people cope.
As the title of the thread suggests, how many hours of sleep do you require for a night to not get any headaches.

You need good 8.hours.with balanced deep, REM and light sleep. Early night sleep is the best to follow your cirdcadian rythm grandmaster hormone.
The lesser sleep effect will show in the later age of life. That time, you want to sleep to recover also your brain wont allow.

How I wish I could sleep up to 8 hours these days. I don't touch 8 hours already these days, at most it would be 7.5 hours. 7 hours would be best. Though I presume many people sleep a lot later. I usually go to bed around 10.30pm and get my eyes shut before 12am. I get to sleep at 11pm on average. Yes, agreed deep sleep is best and important, deep quality sleep. Even though one gets 6 or 7 hours of sleep but it's not deep sleep, when you wake up you won't feel good as it's poor quality sleep.

Not sure whether some of you have experience that you will wake up around the time when you usually wake up even though you stay up quite late & less than minimum 6 hours of sleep.
Regularly auto awake early & will take short naps in the afternoon to recover the sleep shortfalls. If not, will feel like zombie for certain period of the day...

Waking up around the time one usually wakes up, yes that happens to me, and that is the reason I try not too sleep too late or else I will get less sleep if I wake up around the time I usually wake up. I usually set alarms on weekdays, but sometimes before the alarm rings I have waken up already. If it's on weekends, I don't set alarms and most of the time I will wake up later but it won't be too far off from my 'usual' wake up time. As for afternoon naps, I rarely take a nap during lunch time but if I take a nap, it would be around 30 minutes or up to an hour. Honestly, it feels good after a short but good nap. If one has enough sleep during the night, usually afternoon naps are not required. If afternoon naps are required, it indicates that the person does not have enough sleep at night.

Have you checked for OSA (obstructive sleep apnea)? I have OSA.
Before using CPAP, sometimes even 8 hours is not enough
After using CPAP, 6 hours is OK. 5 hours once in a while OK, if everyday cannot.

Yes, I guess everyone is different, 5 to 5.5 hours once in a while is still Ok. I will surely have headaches and won't feel good throughout the day if that happens to me. Above 6 hours would be good for me. Average I get about 6.5 hours a day which is considered good enough. Others will have different requirements since everyone is different, hence the poll since I noticed in other threads people getting 4 or 5 hours of sleep as they play games late at night, or do other sort of activities.

get a garmin watch or something that can track your sleep
I noticed if I sleep lesser than recommended, (6hrs<), if the REM sleep is high, then no issue .
The problem if even you sleep long long, but no REM sleep . Malay say "tidur ayam" . Then sure u wake up headache.
now , to increase the REM sleep, that is another long story

I think late or early makes a difference. Normally, I go to bed around 10:30 pm, which is fine. However, if I sleep after midnight after 12am, even if I get 8hrs of sleep, I still feel tired and have a headache

Sleep routine matter, diet also matter, high salt, high sugar, late sleep headache mostly because hyper tension as doctor told
Last time 10pm sleep, 4.30am wakeup, after some labor activity having breakfast at 6am , then continue labor intensive activity then having noon little noon meal then Labor activity then having kopi c kosong beng at 3pm with bread then continue labor activity until 6pm with little dinner meals then take a rest bath and sleep , 6 months from 74kg reduce weight to 68kg not a sign headache without doing any gym, or lose weight activities sleep time is less but you don't feel sleepy or tiring
Before this field always headache, all meal, sleep routine in wrong timing causing hyper tension need medicine to control
I miss the 6 month labor intensive activity really make life meaningful but no time for personal activity eventually quited but thank to that my weight still within 68 kg no more gain , thank to that now i hardwired mostly 11pm already tak boleh tahan straight go to sleep

For me it's headache + not feeling good. It's not so much about tired but it's mainly just headache for me which affects the whole body mainly the head, nose and neck area. 'Blank out' is going to sleep or taking a nap I presume. Sometimes when I have headaches due to lack of sleep, I am not able to take a nap and will need to endure right until the end of the day, and when it's time to sleep, I will surely have a longer sleep, usually going to bed early sometimes 9.30pm already sleeping and then waking up earlier.

Sleeping with babies and kids, it depends on luck. Some babies sleep through the night with minimal disturbance to the parents while some babies wake up 2 to 3 times or more through the night thus disrupting the sleep of the parents (or grandparents as some parents leave their child to the grandparents). It's just part of life, though when the babies get older there would be less disturbance.

My body only allows me to sleep on average of about 6 hours plus
I will just automatically wake up by then
I have slept for 7 hours but that only happens a handful of times

Really not good when at front desk. I would love the privilege of sleeping early but no chance with active kid.

It looks like your biological clock is off, though it's normal for people who work night shifts I presume. So you can sleep for 8 to 10 hours (4am to 12pm or 2pm) during 'those days'. I presume when you are younger. Yes, younger people can usually sleep longer. I too missed the days I can sleep up to 8 hours or more, but sleeping too long is not good also as I will not get fully rested but actually tired if sleeping for too long up to 9 or 10 hours ie. excessive sleep. Now already old, and if I can get 7+ hours of sleep is considered very good already. Nowadays I clock average 6+ hours of sleep a night which is considered to be good enough as above 6 hours with some deep sleep I usually don't get headaches. It's only below 6 hours I'll get headaches. This post has been edited by ryder_78: Yesterday, 09:08 AM
