Getting Started

|
QUOTE(yvliew @ Dec 21 2024, 02:33 PM) I think this block is a little thin to my liking. But it does shows improvement. maybe 5-7C compared with without using. I want to keep it around 45c and under then I'm happy with it. Haha. The other day I put the ssd on the whole aluminum desk, it was super cool at max 38C. But I don't like that location so I get this block of heatsink. It is doing it's job. But if can find thinker ones, would be better. Anyway, this is the temp of running ollama. damn it is hot! I tried it with the mac pro casing and without, they are the same. The case does not affect the temp. So anyone thinking to get the 3D printed case, don't worry about the temp. Wow that heat can boil water d... What's your fan rpm at this temp? Btw saw that the third party internal SSD chip is almost on mass production stage. If all good can upgrade once the Apple warranty ends.

QUOTE(yvliew @ Dec 21 2024, 01:09 PM) Gonna try this heatsink and see how much improvement. It was running around 46-50c by its own and I'm not really comfortable with that temp. Probably need thermal sticker between the two This post has been edited by jonthebaptist: Dec 21 2024, 04:34 PM

QUOTE(yvliew @ Dec 21 2024, 04:09 PM) don't know why fan still 1000RPM only. Any way to set the fan curve? That's the problem with Mac mini and MacBook, I saw few reviews and the fan doesn't really kick in until you start to throttle and do work for long time.

Anyone can recommend a power cable for the mac mini? where to buy one? Just normal power cable (it looks very similar to the power cable of my tv at home)?
Want to buy 1 extra one at office then I dun need to bring the original power cable with the mac when I bring it with me to office and back home daily.

If the case can help cooling, might be interested to get it. https://www.notebookcheck.net/This-aluminiu...g.934577.0.html

dumb question. Choosing SSD Enclosure now. Plan to run software externally. 10GBPS enough or must use Thunderbolt 3 rating?

Fo me, the MFi thingy era is already past. Now moving into era of USB-C, with the EU pressing hard on universal standard, dun think it is relevant now. I can now use a generic (Ugreen) USB-C hub for my Samsung phone, my ipad mini 7 and my mac mini, all works flawlessly. The thunderbolt 4 USB enclosure i used on mac mini is also universal specs, made by Ugreen.

No board inside, no microchip inside.. You can also buy the cable with fuse in the plug if you want to feel more safe. This post has been edited by yvliew: Dec 23 2024, 03:01 PM
