My riq spec is on my signature. You need high processing power (at least quad-cores) & good dedicated GPU in order to have smooth object panning/moving in viewport. Always view in wireframe mode to increase fps.

hi sifus...

hope someone can advice me on this. this is 3dsMax related

i have a terrain built using the terrain command in 3dsmax. i need to do a series of road going in the area, some are elevated but some will need to cut through the terrain.

so far i just pulled the vertex points of the road and extrude. the road is basically no problem...

my problem is, how do i create retaining walls along the edges of the road? i tried duplicating the line from the road, and enabled thickness to it. but doing it this way some parts of the line got twisted etc. so i imagine this is not the correct way

so what is the best and correct way to do such a project?

pls advice and thanks in advance thumbup.gif notworthy.gif notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

Create a line, like a path of the road, then make a very long road.
After that, click on the road convert> editable poly, in modifier list, find path deform (wsm).
Click on pick path then click on the line you created, play with the path deform axis to get what you want, very easy.
Play with the percent to move the road. biggrin.gif hope it helps.
Please make sure your road has enough edges to bend.

EDIT,
Basically same way to make the wall you mentioned, sorry didn't see that.

my suggestion is go for gaming card first, after another 1 or 2 years only switch to quadro.
Im using quadro 5000 which is very costly, if you really want to go for quadro, aim for mid to high range quadro card,
low cost quadro doesnt seems help a lot.
if you want, can go for ssd. biggrin.gif if no budget, hdd is enough.

vray is really the easiest and fastest rendering engine available.once you get use to it, it really could come in handy biggrin.gif
http://cgpersia.com/ has a lot of tutorials, just search for vray tutorial for max/maya, got a lot there biggrin.gif

wireframe? have to go back to my house and screen shot from my pc, i think around 40,000++ polys with turbo smooth for some rounded part, if remove those around 34,000++ polys

coz i learn during my free time, and design at the same time, so around 3-4 months for this project? with around 2-3 hours per day whenever i off work tongue.gif

for each shot, it needs to run around 30 min+, so now i headache with how to proceed to animation with 24fps if i want to do it as i learning how to animate it

and now try to learn how to use photoshop for some effect in those cg like photo (darn, photoshop is much harder compared to 3ds max)

xeon can combine 2 processor which makes rendering faster.
If you got the money, go for imba spec XD, 12 cores 12 threads .

For mid range quadro i mean quadro 2000 and above

Answer for your question:

It depends on how you're going to use them.

Imba spec as in Top specs of pc > 10k. LOL, perhaps its too simplified XD
Here is an example of what i mean:

Ofcourse you dont have to go crazy like that. for beginer, try to sharpen your skill before going to those tools, because no matter how good the tools are, if you do not have the skill to use them, its pointless.

Good luck smile.gif
