that's why i always say, if x50-5g with 3 years official warranty, can lock band, featured with x62 modem, below rm600; why bother with grey market 5g modem routers. last time not much choices, x50-5g was sold at around rm1k and grey market modem router around rm700-rm1k.



of course if u have certain needs that x50-5g doesn't have, then only consider other options.

btw, nx200 can get at rm462 on last sales.

Just wanna ask, the data plan you mention can be used for the 5g Modem freely? I remember coming across like telco carriers blacklisting modems for their cheaper Sim Card Offering?

Specifically, would you know that Umobile has this issue? Im based in Sabah, so currently i'm using their U Borneo 20 Plan for 2000gb. If you would know that it can be used with 5g Modem freely, i would then consider to get a 5g modem for my small office.

Also what would you recommend for a very budget 5g modem? Possible in the Rm200-rm300 range. i basically use it for Tapo and light browsing.

uborneo i don't know, I'm not from borneo side. u can try and let us know. i don't know how good is borneo's 5G coverage.

rm200-rm300? none.
better top up a bit go for tplink nx200 or nokia fast mile 3.

if u want to use any sim freely (not broadband dedicated sim like umobile home / yes home) then u need a modified modem. best if the modem can modify imei. personally I use olax g5018 for almost 2yrs with various sim, so far no issue at all.

Thanks for the quick one. I'll try umobile Uborneo plan soon. I do have a ZTE MC888s from another umobile subscrition of mine. I'll try swapping out the sim to test, hopefully it would work and can would reducemy monthly cost.

I just googled on the Nokia Fast Mile 3. It mentions about "unlocked". Im assuming it means that it can be freely used with any telco sim yes?

not sure if u could bring the mc888s back to umobile center and claim it got problem and ask for huawei brovi h153-381 for replacement. that will be a better modem router.

yes, unlocked means not locked to certain telco.

but nokia fastmile 3 doesn't have band lock function, not good for poor 5g signal reception area, might auto drop to 4g.

my Lil bro just exchanged the modem to the newer huawei h153 yesterday. 2 days ago he call umobile helpline then yesterday courier deliver the Huawei modem & they collect back the stupid mc888s from him at the same time. he just complain that the modem is unstable & they arranged for the exchange straight away.

unlocked only means can use any 'broadband sim' only, but not the the normal prepaid/postpaid sim that meant to be use in phone.
fadt mile 3 signal strength quite good but unable to lock band.

hope other telcos can give newer h155-380/h155-381 (difference between both i think is with and without n79) like altel and tele2

other telcos dont have stupid 'free' modem problem

day 3 after receiving my x50-5g
can consistently achieve >600Mbps currently on speedtest compared to 40-50Mbps on my VN007+ previously
all in all, very happy with the purchase!
also the built-in wifi coverage is much wider compared to the VN007+; initially thought i needed to get a mesh range extender but seems like using the x50-5g by itself is good enough

vn007+ was those cheaper option last time, so really not much choices that time. just upgrade according to your budget and move on.

ahh i see i see, but does your lil bro have better connection speed now, assuming it's at the same spot where you installed the modem? Currently im having really unstable speeds, im actually considering moving it near towards the front window of my shop. So far doing speedtest, it does report to have very consistent fast speeds.

I remember my ZTE Mc888s was able to lock band if im not mistaken, i remember trying to lock to 5G band 28 few months back. but performance wasnt that stable despite area reception quite 5g friendly. Also just tried putting my normal Umobile SIM to the modem, it did not work haha. Guess cheaping out on that is out.

also just tried on my ZTE MC888s, can somewhat band lock from supervisor. password is admin.
