if u really care about the settings, i really recommend the olax g5018, the interface really good.

gteniq feel a bit "cheap"

arcadyan aw1000 with qwrt firmware settings too much for normal user.

there is also a good 5g modem router from taobao, but quite pricey.
Fiberhome LG6851F (2nd gen with wifi7)

no matter what kind of 5g modem router, i always recommend to turn off the built in wifi, and connect to another strong wifi router (access point mode). good wifi with fem generate quite a lot of heat.

I'm using olax g5018 for about 7 months already. so far so good. no issue at all. can change imei very useful, saves me a lot in the long run. the only thing not tested yet is connect to external antenna. because a decent external antenna quite expensive & I'm satisfied with the built in antenna speed at the moment (200-300mbps with 3 bars out of 4 signal).

too bad fiberhome LG6851F cost too high, malaysia reseller no bring in. fiberhome in china really put a lot of efforts in communicate with users to keep improving their firmware.

more review for ppl who are still on the fence in comparison

I read this but not the one which saying change from x50 5g to zyxel or gteniq. Nvm, I think you have provided very useful info. I think I'll go for TPLink nx200 as it should support all telco in Malaysia.

Your recommendation "no matter what kind of 5g modem router, i always recommend to turn off the built in wifi, and connect to another strong wifi router (access point mode). good wifi with fem generate quite a lot of heat." is very good.

Actually I was thinking to just get a 5g usb dongle and plug into old Asus router RT-AC55U. I have tried with the 4G dongle but it seems not working with YES power 35 plan.

nx200 should be ok as feedback by forumer here.

usb dongle not a good idea, how to fit so many antennas and heatsink into such small package, don't waste money. 5g phone with usb 3.x port (not all type-c usb port is usb 3.x) makes more sense than a usb dongle. (so that u can use ethernet tethering)

Wanna ask if there is recommended cheap yet good modem at taobao
*
maybe u might want to have a look from this shop

https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=777049255388

You will find it hard to search for suitable 5G modem router in taobao because many of them are their local telco locked model.

so tips to search is go alibaba.com and search for "5G CPE" or relevant keywords, then save the pictures and use image search function in taobao.

His firmware is not as stable as immortalWRT or ROOter. I tried the last beta before & always has the random reboot or disconnect issue, better wait for more stable release. Until now, I still can't find a NSS build OpenWRT which is stable & good for AW1000.

Look at the thread & you know his firmware caused bootloop on somebody's AW1000, even for the past firmware. So I think I will skip this, if really keen for NSS build, can try this.

https://github.com/AgustinLorenzo/openwrt/tree/main_nss

Better than xHikari, at least working fine but need to manual install those modems 1st.

Also, really cannot find the big different for NSS build compared to non in terms of speed, possible less CPU usage but AW1000 is powerful enough to handle my daily usage with 30+ Wi-Fi devices.

Looking for options for a new budget 5g modem as my VN007+ is facing a weird problem
Previously I was using it at 4G only area, and manage to reach 50-80Mbps download on U Home 5G
Now I’ve transferred to a city with 5G coverage, but only manage to average 30-50Mbps download and upload on speedtest.
I know it’s not the sim problem because using the same card with Olax MF650 gets me minimum 250Mbps download on speedtest as well.
And a weird thing is after i perform factory reset on the VN007+, the speedtest can reach 270Mbps, but only for about 5 minutes doh.gif
In the meantime using my UHome 5G with the MF650

Currently looking at Nokia Fastmile 3 (saw it listed as under 500 recently on shopee)
And NX200

Any suggestion on which to use?

Hi. Do you know what chipset does the nx200 use?

Currently using Olax MF650, pretty happy with its battery life and speed. Size is also very portable and lightweight
Only disadvantage I can think of is that the battery is not easily replaceable

It's already connected to 28/78, but still gives the handicapped speed. Unfortunately VN007+ doesn't have band lock function
