Yes. Did that a few years back with a 4G broadband sim. Phone also got relatively hot and after 1+ month I noticed the battery life was reduced. Which is why I'll do it on a cheapo phone this time
Maybe with 5G I'll have to find some way to throttle the max speed so it doesn't stress the phone too much. Main use is for browsing and some torrenting lol so I guess I just have to carefully manage my usage to avoid overheating the phone.

And yea FB marketplace can be dodgy. Saw some listings that even came with warnings from FB itself that the post is using images from other users and somehow they don't remove it other than place that warning at the top

for your usage probably a cheap phone as hotspot would be better
from my experience, using a 5g phone hotspot to attend zoom classes and to make presentations - it will get choppy after nearly an hour - same thing happens whether i created hotspot on my iphone or realme narzo 50 pro 5g..
Resolved after I decided to invest in a cheapo Unicom VN007 5g CPE.. smooth like butter
and now for my data needs on the road I'm using Olax MF650 - happy with the size and speed + stability, battery also can last for the entire workday

Any comment on this “travel” modem? Been trying to check what chip they use but unable to find yet. Maybe Mediatek?

looks to be an alcatel QTAD52E, but only manage to find Cortex A7 under the CPU information

Looking for options for a new budget 5g modem as my VN007+ is facing a weird problem
Previously I was using it at 4G only area, and manage to reach 50-80Mbps download on U Home 5G
Now I’ve transferred to a city with 5G coverage, but only manage to average 30-50Mbps download and upload on speedtest.
I know it’s not the sim problem because using the same card with Olax MF650 gets me minimum 250Mbps download on speedtest as well.
And a weird thing is after i perform factory reset on the VN007+, the speedtest can reach 270Mbps, but only for about 5 minutes doh.gif
In the meantime using my UHome 5G with the MF650

Currently looking at Nokia Fastmile 3 (saw it listed as under 500 recently on shopee)
And NX200

Any suggestion on which to use?

nx200 should be ok as feedback by forumer here.

Hi. Do you know what chipset does the nx200 use?

Hi. Any recommendations for portable 5g router?
*
Currently using Olax MF650, pretty happy with its battery life and speed. Size is also very portable and lightweight
Only disadvantage I can think of is that the battery is not easily replaceable

Did you done the BAND LOCK option? B28+N78?
*
It's already connected to 28/78, but still gives the handicapped speed. Unfortunately VN007+ doesn't have band lock function

didn't state but should be mediatek t750, if u have doubt then take x50-5g, it uses snapdragon x62.

yeah, hence I've been looking at Nokia Fastmile 3, seems like best bang-for-the-buck option currently

you need superadmin login then can open band lock options include imei change.

the superadmin login option seems like requiring to use ADB access etc? might only have time to do that after raya

End up getting tp link x50-5g instead of nokia fastmile 3, because reading through the thread some commenters mentioned nokia is unable to lock bands 😅
Plus with the lazada birthday sale discount the price is acceptable to me
And also there's warranty and it being Msia set - more peace of mind

nice price 👍🏻

that's why i always say, if x50-5g with 3 years official warranty, can lock band, featured with x62 modem, below rm600; why bother with grey market 5g modem routers. last time not much choices, x50-5g was sold at around rm1k and grey market modem router around rm700-rm1k.

day 3 after receiving my x50-5g
can consistently achieve >600Mbps currently on speedtest compared to 40-50Mbps on my VN007+ previously
all in all, very happy with the purchase!
also the built-in wifi coverage is much wider compared to the VN007+; initially thought i needed to get a mesh range extender but seems like using the x50-5g by itself is good enough rclxms.gif

For Deco X50-5G, is it a must to install with external antenna?
Any good recommendation for external antenna?

it helps if your area has poor reception, but no, it's not a must
the deco has internal antenna too

using MTK 7981 Chipset with MTK T750 Modem. dl can get 300Mbps ++ at my site.
is it normal for U mobile 5G NSA?  rolleyes.gif

i guess it depends on site?
Using umobile U Home 5G, still NSA at my place, but on TP-Link X-50-5G instead, it gets me 500Mbps+ download & 100 Mbps upload on speedtest.
This speed is pretty much what I get doing speedtest on Maxis and Digi using mobile phone (iphone & poco f3)

Previously using unicom CPE VN007+, had only manage to get 200Mbps download at the same place
