Im starting this thread to see what other ppl have done to improve their iswaras

Mods must be practical and have a purpose
These are mods made to the stock car
Hopefully not too expensive either laugh.gif
(e.g. adding things like new skirting or spoiler or transplanting engines are not counted)

Preferably, the mods / add-ons should fall into one of these 5 categories:
1. Increase power icon_idea.gif
2. Improve FC icon_rolleyes.gif
3. Improve functionality rclxm9.gif
4. Improve comfort thumbup.gif
5. Improve performance brows.gif

If you DIY anything that could be of use/interest to other iswara drivers, please feel free to explain the steps/methods you used to make the device/gadget/gizmo/mod biggrin.gif

If you dont mind telling, please post the price of your mods / add-ons (for everyone's info...incase we want to fix also brows.gif )
And if you have pics, we would all love to check out your bling drool.gif
(but please post them in spoilers/thumbnails to save space)

P.S. Please dont spam

heres what i have done for my car so far
they arent expensive...except for the tinting and the rims...those really hurt... blink.gif moneyflies.gif

1.
DIY insulated the whole car. used insuflex for floor, booth, roof, bonnet and firewall. used tar strips for door panels.
this greatly reduces road noise, engine noise and that 'milo tin' effect which is so common among the new iswaras
<<<more info here>>>
cost: less than RM300

where i got the stuff:

2.
DIY install stabilizer bar
this significantly improves handling around corners at high speed. mine is bolted onto the shock's bar. some say that isnt good. the ones that bolt directly onto the body will also work i guess...most important is to stiffen the chassis so it doesnt flex too much when cornering
cost: RM45

3.
DIY a door for the glove 'shelf'
without this thing, i couldnt keep much on that shelf....everything kept falling out... grumble.gif i know its not the prettiest thing around...but it serves its purpose marvelously thumbup.gif
cost: ~RM25

Added on October 23, 2007, 9:48 pm4.
DIY installed a vacuum gauge
this helps you drive well...it tells you when you are pressing too hard (shouldnt go less than 5inHg), and also is also the best (cheap) diagnostic tool for your engine
<<<more info here>>>
cost: ~RM100 (including shipping from the US)

5.
DIY installed the starter motor relay
most iswaras have this starter problem (when the key is turned, it goes *click*,...but nothing happens)...this relay totally solves the problem
<<<more info here>>>
cost: ~RM15

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

6.
DIY installed original proton CAI duct
this will give your car cold air just like the other hosing n all...but is much neater. Also, since its drawing air from the fender cavity, there should be negligeble spray n kick-up getting sucked in...this should keep your air filter cleaner longer wink.gif
cost: RM51

7.
installed shock sensor
got this from max auto in bangi as suggested by blackpc (its apposite the pkns building)...this is a retro fit...they'll cut one of your alarm wires to add it in...its a simple job...took bout 20mins all in
cost: RM50

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

8.
changed to alloy rims
the stock rims are quite heavy...not to mention they arent the nicest looking things on the road...the lighter rims should slightly improve performance...not to mention they dont bend when going into a pot hole....they either hold their shape...or break...so easy tongue.gif hahaha
cost: RM600 (traded in the ori rims...tyres and all...and got new set of Goodyear Ducaro GA)

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

9.
installed V-Kool Elite
...what can i say...this is a hot country laugh.gif
cost: RM2k

please read spoiler...*important* get another brand...DO NOT BUY V-KOOL
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

10.
installed mud flaps
the iswara's design is kinda bad...it kicks up dirt onto the side real easily
cost: RM40

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

11.
DIY installed another cigarette lighter socket
the current one is directly infront of my 1st gear position
so when i plug in my hp charger and try to shift into 1st gear when holding the gear shift knob normally, my hand will hit the wire...this is really a dumb design by proton...no idea y they didnt recess it like the old iswara dashboards...anywayz...i've bought the socket already...from max auto also...quite hard to find...and this looks like a good quality one too! biggrin.gif plan to install it facing up infront of the gear shift...the corner looks like got enough space hmm.gif
cost: RM13

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

12.
DIY installed volt meter
this can help to monitor the charging and condition of the battery
the alternator performance can also be monitored
the meter i got also comes with a clock and a temperature sensor
as the iswara lmst does not have a built in clock, this function is particularly useful
the temperature sensor is kindof a bonus...its a nifty gadget to have in the car biggrin.gif
cost: RM145

13.
<to be installed soon>
DIY install long range, high intensity spot lights
some roads i travel on these days are really dark at night
so the standard head beams, even on high are insufficient
need to get a couple of good spotlights

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

14.
Switched from Mineral Engine Oil to Fully Synthetic Oil
Was using Shell Helix, switched to Shell Helix Ultra Full Synth
It actually gives me better mileage!
And even though you pay more than double the price of mineral oils, it can last 4 times as long, PLUS it improves mileage
(full synths these days can be run 20000km easily without breaking a sweat...just remember to change your filter at 10k and you'll do fine wink.gif )
So not only are you protecting your engine better by using full synths, you are actually saving money in the long run! icon_idea.gif
cost: RM188 (for a 4L bottle)

on a side note, im running castrol EP80/90 in my gearbox
been using castrol for more than 30 years and its still a great choice (just my opinion here...im sure there are many other good oils)

Warning!!!

15.
Changed stock copper core sparkers to DIY side-gapped platinums
Not only do platinum spark plugs provide better performance as compared to normal copper cores, side gapping them provides a little extra kick
Quite honestly, I can feel a little difference...I know its not much, but trust me,...in a massively underpowered car like the 1.3L iswara, you want to get every tiny bit of power you can
I believe the street lingo for this would be 'the engine feels lighter' or 'the engine feels more rev happy'
I'm using NGK G-Power Platinum sparkplugs
cost: RM40 (4 pcs) + ~3hours to file down the grounding electrode coz i didnt have a grinding wheel/cutter

16.
Changed the "sports" exhaust that came with the car to the "original" saga exhaust.
Not only does proton's sad attempt at a sports exhaust have a cheezy sound, it also causes bad milage
I kept the flange plate of the old exhaust line as the "original" saga exhaust's plate appears to be slighty different in its dimensions
Also kept the old exhaust's chromed tail pipe as the "original" saga exhaust's tail pipe is too long
It will have to be cut and would look pretty bad if no proper end piece was installed
The pipe of the "sports" exhaust is larger than the "original" saga exhaust line so the chromed tail pipe piece can be just slid over and tack welded onto the new "original" tail pipe
I get up to 1km/L extra now
Before changing the exhaust i averaged 11+ to low 12km/L
I not get nothing less than 12.7km/L when I do some hard driving,...13km/L is quite easily achievable with normal driving
Current record is 13.7km/L
Cost: RM130 including installation

17.
Installed battery terminal disconnector.
I travel out of town a decent bit so my car often stands for a week or more. I used to manually disconnect the -ve battery terminal clamp. But over time, the terminal lug, being lead and thus quite soft, has crushed and eventually even when the terminal clamp is fully tightened, it was still a tiny bit loose.
By installing the disconnector, not only is the task much easier (takes all of 3 seconds), the terminal lug is preserved. All one has to do is turn the knob a couple of turns. No need even to fully unscrew the knob.
The clamping lug on the disconnector where the car's original terminal clamp is attached to was a bit too small. To fix this, I got a flat strip of lead from my local fishing store, wrapped it around the disconnector's lug and cut it to size to form a sleeve with a slight gap (3-4mm) between the ends to allow for crushing and settling.
Cost: RM38 (ebay.com)

on closer inspection, i noticed that your strut is totally dead welded
so means the shocks cant move independently at all...coz the bearings will stop any movement
now only left angular movement...(can rotate only)
is that ok? hmm.gif
got any advantage/disadvantage?

I'm running on twin-pot fronts (ventilated) + single rears (solid).
Honestly, if you're a (decent) daily driver, the brakes make no difference. Just get a set of good high-temp pads (maybe like MadDriver's pads I'm selling) and you can have a little bit more fun with the brakes.
If you drive like a maniac (i.e: cannot see winding mountain passes type tongue.gif ), the the brakes make a whole world of difference. They really let you stop when you want, where you want and give you some added assurance when giving your ride a good stretch. But a word of caution, THINK BEFORE YOU BRAKE! They lock... and lock pretty quick.
The hose upgrades are pretty good too, giving you a little more lifespan and brake feel. But PLEASE try not to upgrade the Master Brake Pump as this will only put unnecessary stress to the brake hoses & pads and increase brake-wear. I've seen glazed pads as a result of this (big MBP + bad pads).

i mean the front disc.....

i used to mod iswara too long time ago....

the first thing that i mod is the brakes.... stock brakes + servo i throw... i put in VR4 front disc + calipers + servos

wham, stopping power is excellent
tongue.gif

then i naik giler, i change the rear to disc also
tongue.gif

then only i main mod the engine

quote from Pro RS site:

"Stainless Steel Braided Teflon hose applied to PRO-RS Brake Hose
are supplied and manufactured by a leading Aerospace hose manufacturer based in the U.S."

y are they so vague about the "leading Aerospace hose manufacturer based in the U.S."?

cant find the name anywhere...they just keep emphasizing the company is from 'the US'
...which could mean a third world island sumwhere which happens to fall under the US...this is wat they are doing for i think nike tshirts or sumthing...say its made in the US,...technically its true...but its not made in the US of A as we know it...its made in some backwater third world island state that happens to fall under the US

this is so classic of small startup comps that try to sound big and important blink.gif

Actually, the rear drums bite quite well. They don't however, take repeated abuse very well sad.gif Once you get them overheated, they're next to useless... I still miss my rear drums, especially when loading the handbrake sad.gif(

Believe is or not, the front VR4's are cheaper as compared to the rears these days. Actually had an offer for a P&P single pot set for RM400 shocking.gif
... too bad I already had one tongue.gif

Not really cosmetic... it depends on the driver.
For the casual driver with very mild driving habits, yes, they are close to useless. But not for the temperamental maniac tongue.gif
Well, people have spent more on 'cosmetics' too... How much does a set of nice rims cost these days again? unsure.gif

Where's you get the bar from if you don't mind telling. Looks good smile.gif

from fren. he COD to me.

QUOTE(neosaint99 @ Oct 24 2007, 11:35 AM)
on closer inspection, i noticed that your strut is totally dead welded
so means the shocks cant move independently at all...coz the bearings will stop any movement
now only left angular movement...(can rotate only)
is that ok? hmm.gif
got any advantage/disadvantage?
*
hmmm. advantage is body will more solild. when cornering body wont bend so much. where else adjustable will flex a bit.
disadvancatage is the impact will goes to abs. if u r hardcare driver or always go to unevenroad. ur abs will be suffer. n if ur car has accident b4 or old it will hv some trouble when u install this fixed bar. they will be no such problem if u install flex bar.
for your all info, i go to glenmarie proton partrs, they sell 3max bar as genuie parts.

neosaint99 i bought the ori CAI. after buy straight install. did remove any nuts at all. just plug n play. brows.gif

QUOTE(andychan @ Oct 24 2007, 01:30 PM)
dependence your like some like side some like center got bearing some of them want to wending it like UR for me go for UR 3 point.
3max also good but i dont like they install attach to the ABS. wven it is with bearing happy.gif
*
even the 3max bar for saga at gelmarie proton parts also the same. the advantage is 3max bar hv bearing for saga. this is becoz saga dun hv bearing but other proton hv bearing oledi n 3max just put in on for saga. it u look into other car which fixed those bar is actually fixed on the abs steel which oledi hv bearing. the onli diff is u use fixed bar or flex bar. correct me if i am wrong

when driving on flat road try to keep the vac about 15-20
when accelerating...dun press until below 5...unless u really need to kau kau pecut
den lets say u r in 4th gear...n u going up a slope....n u pressing to get power to climb...n u press until 5 n still not enough power...then shift down to 3rd
dun just press mati mati until reach zero all

this way can drive more economically wink.gif

i dont have a gps phone
but heres an idea wink.gif

on the side of the aircon controls console there are 2 screws
one on the vertical plane...n one on the horizontal plane (underneath the dash)
they are both machine screws so they can take some reasonable loading
u can make an L-bracket for those screws (so these screws go through the bracket and then into the dash)
den u can extend the L-bracket up the side of the aircon controls console
den u can attach one of those phone holders that have that flexible arm...either by screwing or clamping the end of the flexible connector to the extended L-bracket
that is what i wanted to do...until i sold my ipaq n moved back to my trusty old 3310 laugh.gif

Rear disks make a hell lotta difference with reference to braking.... drums=bicycle brakes.... simple as that... heated drums=very little/no braking efficiency at all.... they give u a more 'planted' feeling...

not too sure bout pillar holders
i think lastime i saw in accessory shop...i think its for flat dash like old iswara type hmm.gif
n our lmst dash is curved
so it will be (i think) hard to make it fit nice n snug...n get the correct angle
i still like my dashboard setup
makes it looks kinda stock

erm...when did u last ride a bike? blink.gif
nowdays most bikes come with v-brakes
or even disc brakes
the bicycle drum brake is a thing of the past....(i.e. our grandfather's era)
im not saying u cant get drum brakes for bicycles anymore...but they are few n far between
they are more common on motorcycles...even up to the high power harleys

anywayz...back to the topic of iswaras...
the iswara is not a powerful car
and most of the braking is done by the front disc brakes anywayz...(cats quoted a 70-30 ratio)
so if u drive normally,...then they stock setup will be fine
but if u drive, as one of the forumers put it, "like a maniac"...(nothing personal k? tongue.gif ), then u would prolly do well to upgrade the brakes
but not just to discs in the rear
u'll need to upgrade the whole braking system
if not the brakes will lock up very easily and it will become more dangerous rather than added safety

actually, this has all been discussed before... hmm.gif
did u read the whole thread or did u just jump in here to up you posting scores? whistling.gif

ok ok...lets not talk bout this nymore...off topic
just to clear thins up,...the bicycle drum brake uses a mechanical actuator to push the brake shoes against the inside of the drum where as the car uses hydraulic pistons
the bicycle drum brake works on a lever system
the brake cable pulls lever on the outside of the drum which is connected to a shaft which works the lever inside of the drum which in turn pushes out against the brake shoe(s) which in turn rub against the inner side of the drum

note: some drum brakes for bicycles have 2 brake shoes, very similar to the car drum brake...on the other hand, some have one (longer) brake shoe (usually running about 250degrees).

ok
just changed the screws for my mud flaps
the accessory shops use counter sink screws
heres an example
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

these screws eventually tear through the plastic as the head is tapered
not to mention they rust
mine were only about 6 months old and they were rusting already
its no surprise tho as they are made from steel and the wheel wells are one of the worst places an unprotected steel part could be

so what i did was i went down to my local everlast nuts & bolts outlet and got me a bunch of "stainless steel pan head self tapping screws"
(which can be seen above in the 2nd picture on the right of the silver counter sink screw)
they were 20cents a piece...but they wont rust...i needed 18 pieces so thats rm3.60...not too steep rite? biggrin.gif
for the size, i took out one of the screws from the front as a sample
once i got the ss screws, i then sprayed them with a couple of coats of flat black and another couple of coats of clear lacquer...(atleast they wil be less obvious on the black mud flaps now)
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

for the front wheels you can just turn the wheel full lock and change all the screws
for the inside most screw (there are five in all for the front) you'll have to use a stubby screwdriver
they used silver screws for my front and the black screws (shown in d 1st pic) for the back flaps
this is what it looks like with the shop installed screws (note the rust)
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

and this is what it looks like after i have changed the screws
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

for the back wheel flaps, they only used 3 screws
this is because there are 2 plugs (i think for anchoring the bumper) on the inner edge of the bumper where the flaps will run on
they did not put a screw on the inside (to create an L shape) like they do for the front wheels
this is because they would have to remove the wheel to do this and they could not be bothered
the result is that the flaps on the back are anchored to the bumper with 3 screws in a straight line
this allows the flap to,...well,....flap laugh.gif hahaha
over time it will work itself lose and possibly tear off from the screws
heres a pic of the original setup
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

what i did was remove the back tyres and replace their 3 original screws
and then i drilled another one on the inside to secure it in the 2nd dimension (basically to create an L shape like the front)
the part that it is screwing into is metal...and the angle is kinda weird...so what i did was use a 2mm drill bit to get through the flap plastic
then i used the black screw seen in picture no.1 (which has a very sharp point) to make the hole through the metal backing (i used a power screwdriver to do this)
(i tried using the drill bit but the angle kept making it run off target)
this is what the 4th screw looks like after its installed
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

with this extra screw the back flaps become secure and sturdy
thumbup.gif

just a note...all the screws were screwed in manually with a hand screwdriver and not a power screwdriver so as not to accidentally slip and thus damage the paint since it has only had a day to dry and thus wouldnt be so hard yet

update on the mud flaps for iswara lmst

aparently what the accessory shop lady told me was correct
cant fix the stock iswara mud flaps on the lmst coz of the skirting
we have to use the generic 'west' or 'sparco' type mud flaps
just saw an lmst today that fixed stock proton flaps
looks really bad
here are the pics

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

mud flaps are definitely recommended to be fixed for the lmst as the tyres kick up spray very easily
but do not fix the proton flaps
get the generic type

but this is the 3rd car we did
so a safe bet for a newbie would be 3 days to do the entire car including tar sheets in the door panels

no need put bitumen then insuflex
just choose one or the other
imho bitumen would be better than insuflex from a performance point of view
but the prob is the cost
so from an economic point of view, insuflex makes more sense

the address was on the other thread...the one about insulation
i think its been closed as there was no activity there
i dont have my file with me now so cant get the address
will prolly get my hands on my car file next month or so only
will post up the address once i get it

mayb u can ask in the saga thread if any1 copied it down...
u might get lucky...who knows biggrin.gif

vkool is about 2.4k
but then dont get that...i guess u might have seen my thread on that topic d?hahaha
but good tints will be more than 1k usually
the cheaper ones dont cut heat and glare as well
and also there are distortions in the film....especially after a few years
initially, they look quite good...
but ultimately,...the distortions start to show in the cheaper ones
this is one thing where i would recomend you pay the extra cash and go for a good and reputable brand biggrin.gif

just tried out my friend's new lmst
its using the stock 4-1 exhaust manifold
i can honestly say that his car has far better low end torque compared to mine which is using a long 4-2-1 extractor (which was stock when i purchased my car back in May)
if ya'll are having problems with power, i would suggest you get a trade in on the 4-2-1 extractor at your local exhaust shop
im sure they have many 2nd hand 4-1s hanging around
im seriously considering doing this as my low end torque is really bad hmm.gif

nope... wont fit nicely without mods... if u notice it is longer than normal headlamp... thus, grill need to cut short... hood need to skim the lips off abit... respray everything... signal lamp need to touchup abit....

cefiro headlamp will cost about rm250-rm300... plus modifications everything can bring up to rm500...

ahaaa, it's inside the grill, which would limit down the brightness
am actually looking for a front bumper to accommodate the 2 Hella
look for Howie from AutoGenesis, he's good

the Cefiro headlights shown by catacombs were nice
but the cost of it... oh well, it's something that i won't invest on, at the moment...

just 4g15 uk spec engine lar bro...actually max to opt for oversize TB is 1800cc only which is 4g37, more than that is redundant one but nowadays very hard to find this TB liao coz no more half cut for this engine in japan d so opt for 4g63 lor...cause the isc motor port is the same.

that Hella Driving Lamp, the focus seems to be on 2 spot, and it doesn't disperse to other areas, not wide enough la, i think. mine also like that

guys i heard from some forumer that installing HID at the lower part (as fog lamp) is not recommended as the chances for water to go is high for fog lamp. If normal halogen inside got water nvm but HID is high intensity discharge so the thing is different.. u try consult howie and see then reply here for more info can?

Find one day i free, I ask him about this. But if we get branded good foglight, I don't think it will be the problem..

HID at the lower part, it more useful that put it in headlamp.

Foglight, usually the beam is only spot to one side. Not wide while the beam is kinda short, While driving lamp, it wide and brigther.. That why called it driving lamp.

No picture ler.. You try snap the beam of your foglight inside ur car, then compare with the driving light beam...

You dun like HID, tapi you light spot light.. whistling.gif whistling.gif

actually guys, thats not the point of fog lights
u notice that fog lights are always a certain shade of yellow?
thats not just to look cool
that particular wavelength of light travels farther through fog than would normal white light
(white light just gets reflected back and it becomes like shining a light at a wall thats 3 feet infront of you)
on the other hand, that particular yellow wavelength of light can go through further and thus you get to see further

so in conclusion, its the wavelength of light produced that is the difference between driving lights/spot lights and fog lights

lets not get mixed up here
fog lamps are yellow
they have a yellow lense

the white ones are either spotlights, these are for long distance beams
and the other one are the driving lamps...these produce a wider beam,...something light floodlights...and dont reach as far as spot lights....

Actually those yellow foglight not only for fog, or rain. It also help us in kampung area.. Till now, I still finding those headlamp which is pure yellow which the beam can shot very far (the beam colour not same like halogen). But I cannot find what bulb is that. I saw numerous of subaru impreza having that.

HID also have their benefit too.. it best using it on the dark road and also village road. while stock halogen, really can cause terjunam ke hill.. Some are complaining HID glare them but normal halogen bulb it will glare. Some idi*t which dunno how to adjust their beam until the halogen light beam shooting up.. The main problem here is, how their adjust the light beam. Some more some blardy driver use high beam to drive.

this is y i like the old iswara's dashboard so much
its customizable
the lmst's wan so hard to install mods
no space at all
sighz
imho could mod a face plate so that it fits in nicely
like this it looks a little on the coarse side
if redo the mounting sure will look nice

but 1 thing lar
the aircon control should be within reach so that wen driving can still adjust
now it is like the lmst's controls
all the aircon controls (which we use during driving) are at the bottom and out of reach
and all the useless buttons (which we use when we are stationary, e.g. hazard lights and trip meter reset) are at the top within easy reach when driving
i mean,...common!...
which idiot in proton designed that?!
really no brains lar these ppl doh.gif

Thanks bro!

managed to find a pic
looking for sumthing like this
user posted image

if different model oso not too bad i think
but im looking for this sort of config
where the light is mounted on with a bracket and then it can adjust its direction
most spotlights i see these days are the type like the hella comet n all
single bolt on mounting
but i want to cut a hole in my iswara's bottom grill and fix in there
so bolt on is not such a good idea

if like in the picture above, then atleast i can cut a hole, mount it, then make like a shroud or sumthing to cover the bracket
imho it will look better (i hope...hehehe) than those that just bolt on in front of the grill

It's called a hood-scoop. And yes, it's done to allow more airflow into the engine.
I've been contemplating several configurations for my ride, but in the end....

yeah, you have to make sure that water doesn't wet the component and provide cool fresh air to the air intake. most of the time, scoops are designed for intercooler installed on the top as they will suffer less damage from incoming debris.

Cut it across the triangle shape as u mentioned, cut towards front on the left and right of the first cross cut, push it down, weld small plate to cover the gap of the left and right cut and cement it. Sorry, so difficult to describe in english tongue.gif Hope you understand what i'm trying to say.

dont get the cheap ones
the higher rating bulbs that are cheap dont last long
some just 3 months n burn already
go for a good trustworthy brand
they may cost as much as double the el-cheapo bulbs
but they last wayyy longer wink.gif

Add relay is because out stock car bulb is 55/66w watt which our stock relay can stand the heat. While if you use 90/100w bulb on stock relay, the relay socket and wire will melt. So that why we need to change to 90/100w. If you get 55/60w bulb, you no need to put relay because it still acceptable for the stock relay.

A reliable brand bulb is such like PIAA, Philips, Osram, Hella and japan brand 'raybirg'. If normal halogen stock, Hella and osram is cheap while raybirg also need RM30+ eachh.. For PIAA, it need rm200++ per pair while philips is from 75-RM200++.. You google at garage sales, got a seller selling philips rally. It good and cheap.. But it need relay.

most auto relays are 30amp relays (i think... hmm.gif pls correct me if im wrong)
what type of wires ya'll use?
where do ya'll tap off the wire to go to the relay coil?
where is it mounted?

100/130 watt is too much.. Suggest you use 90/100 ceramic socket relay. If you still using 90/100 pvc socket, it might melt as well..
and, 100/130w bulb will kill your headlight reflector more faster..

Just tap the wiring from the battery. The 90/100w wiring is damn huge.. After put the 90/100 wiring kit, the stock socket we will leave it there.. We use the new socket from the wiring kit..

In other way, we call it 90/100w headlight wiring kit. if said relay, might confuse abit.. The wiring kit inside got contain 2 relays... Why we need to change relay? Because if we use 90/100w, the stock wiring and stock socket cannot stand the heat. The stock wiring is so tiny. So if need to change to better socket, and more huge wiring.. We still can use 50/60w bulb if using 90/100w headlight wiring kit.

Why JPJ wanna tangkap? it brighter and kill ur headlamp faster.. You very scare of JPJ meh?
100/130 watt is too much.. Suggest you use 90/100 ceramic socket relay. If you still using 90/100 pvc socket, it might melt as well..
and, 100/130w bulb will kill your headlight reflector more faster..

Err.. Sorry bro.. Not really understand what you mean. Do you mean, where the 90/100 wiring relay get switch off and switch on? If yes, it from stock wiring.. I not sure after put 90/100w, the stock socket when plug in bulb still got light or not..

tied up at work

can pls explain a little on the wiring schematics?
where do ya'll install the relay?
what rating wires ya'll use?

at 130watts, the draw will be just under 11amps
most auto relays are 30amp relays (i think... hmm.gif pls correct me if im wrong)
what type of wires ya'll use?
where do ya'll tap off the wire to go to the relay coil?
where is it mounted?
can please elaborate?

Bro.. I know how it get the signal..

The wiring goes like this..

Battery -> relay -> 90/100w wiring kit -> socket which plug into STOCK headlight socket -> 2 90/100w wiring socket -> 90/100 bulb.

It get the turn on and turn off signal from the stock socket. Because the 90/100w wiring kit got a socket need to plug into stock headlamp socket.

DIY installed original proton CAI duct
this will give your car cold air just like the other hosing n all...but is much neater. Also, since its drawing air from the fender cavity, there should be negligeble spray n kick-up getting sucked in...this should keep your air filter cleaner longer wink.gif

i didnt c any new bump bush a.k.a. dust cover, or rubber top seat, or top cap bearings in your kit
u should change these things each time u change your shocks
(only applicable for front shocks as back shocks are dead bolted in)
they arent expensive and they help to keep your suspension nice n stiff
the older these rubber get, the more spongy ur suspension will get, especially when cornering
i've changed iswara shocks so many times that i've lost count...but nev took pics b4 this

5. get new set of headlamp at 400-500
pros = integrated look
cons = $$$$

whats the different between fog light and driving light and spot light?
besides hella, any other cheaper brand?

QUOTE(singchaii @ Mar 11 2008, 08:49 AM)
1. no use, Maybe is your headlamp reflector going to die.
2. no use. I
3. Yes. Dun get hella foglight. get the hella driving lamp. The beam is wider and can use it to replace your stock headlight. I see the hella driving light at night and it awesome and bright.
4. Just mount it on the bumper while the beam, i dunno...

Hella Fog light, usually the beam is short and not wide. Just for Fog/rain purpose. While driving lamp, the beam, is longer and wider like headlamp..

I've read some posting in WAC Forum whereby if you shift the power band to lower rpm by advancing the timing, you will have better pick-up and thereby better FC cos' we downshift the gear faster... icon_rolleyes.gif

hmm.gif The price range for a adjustable cam pulley for NA engine (ie. non-turbo) will be less than 200 to 300+ where workmanship costs will depend whether the mechanic uses high end sophisticated tool or just using plain observatory skill...

if you want to install insuflex in the door panels, you'll have to stick it onto the plastic panel itself
if you stick it inside the metal cavity, it will accumulate dirt and promote rust
insulating door panels for heat is not worth the effort as most of the heat comes through the roof and the front and rear glasses
having a good tint, using sunshields for front and back glasses, installing insuflex on the roof metal and cracking your window open about 1cm when parked would be a much better option for heat reduction

if you still insist on removing the door panels and installing your insuflex, heres how you do it

1. the door latch handle has a little flap in its cavity
use a test pen to flip it open and remove the screw behind it
2. you'll find 1 more screw in the handle cavity
remove that and along with the handle cup which the screw is holding down too
3. look sideways at your window winder
you will see a spring clip holding in
use a test pen to push it off
this can be achieved by pushing on one of the clip tips
if pushing on one tip doesnt work, try pushing on the other
this has always worked for me
4. now slowly start to pop the panel off the door starting from one of the botton corners moving towards the top
once you reach the top, do the same from the other corner
5. unhook it from the window sill and you are done
6. try not to drop it face down as this plastic scratches very easily

if you are familiar with the system, this whole process should take no more than 5minutes

well, i was looking at it but i'll lose sooo much booth space
the new saga on the other hand has a booth that was designed to fit in a gas tank
thats y the booth is so deep
its so that when that car replaces the taxis, it wont be like today's taxis where all you can put in the booth is your hand lugage
your check-in lugage (i.e. the big stuff) has to go in the back seat
so rediculous
but as the price of petrol increases, im seriously contemplating if i should sacrifice my booth to save money
only prob is there are a lot of 'copy' systems out there being marketed as 'originals'
they are made locally in ppl's workshops with little or no QC
they are copied from the design of the ori imported systems

as this is a highly hazardous system, i really want to get an ori setup installed by a pro
i also want a composite tank to save on weight
the old metal tank versions are so heavy
the composite tank also endures crashes better

bro
to remove the roof panel:

- unscrew your rear view mirror, and the 2 sun visors at the front of your car.
- unclip the cabin light cover. you can use your hands. there are 4 clips iinm, one on each corner
- unscrew the cabin light housing
- unscrew the passanger roof handles. u'll have to unclip the covers for the screw points. just lever them out with your fingers
- pull out all the push clips along the back (not sure if there are any on the front) basically remove them all. they look like little plastic discs on the roof. i used a large edge cutter as it has to very solid parallel flat surfaces which i can wedge under two sides of the disc. then lever them out gently without damaging the roof plastic. DO NOT CUT!!!. just use it as a lever
- the roof should come off easily

before you glue your insuflex or other choice of insulation onto the roof metal, you might want to re-route the ariel and cabin light wires.
mine were pretty messy
also remember to leave access holes in the insulation for all connection points. e.g. the arial wire
also, remove the arial by unscrewing it from the inside
clean the rubber foot and roof properly
apply a little high temp silicone on the foot which will be sitting on the roof surface
screw back the arial firmly (do not overtighten as this will crush and distort the rubber foot
remember to check that the arial is aligned with the car body

this is a potential leakage point in the car so might as well prevent the leak before it happens

remember to use insulation which is not thick
if the insulation is too thick, you will have trouble fixing the roof cover back on as the clips and all will be too short
and you will also risk it popping out in the future due to too much stress on the anchor points

DIY install stabilizer bar
this significantly improves handling around corners at high speed. mine is bolted onto the shock's bar. some say that isnt good. the ones that bolt directly onto the body will also work i guess...most important is to stiffen the chassis so it doesnt flex too much when cornering
cost: RM45

can i know where did u get it?

Dont worry,...no effect on air flow
the main benefit of the ori cai is that it takes air from the fender
this means it is cold (atmospheric temp) and also clean
...if the ducts just face forward e.g. from a hole in the front bumper, then filter gets dirty faster as its essentially a vacuum cleaner for all the dust n dirt that one drives through on a daily basis

as far as power/efficiency diff, i'd say there is none...even forward facing types (some say coz driving forward into the air increases air flow) will not be noticable coz the diff in pressure is too low for us to 'feel'

one thing that may be noticed with the ori cai is longer filter life which, if one doesnt change often will definitely translate into better efficiency as a dirty filter can quite significantly affect efficiency

suggested change interval: 5000km

the filter is only RM7 anywayz... wink.gif

got it in seremban
one of the accesory shops on jalan zaaba, past the fire station
important thing to note about this type is that the bearings must be good. when you change your shocks, take the bar to a shop and get new bearings hydraulically pressed in
using a hammer will just ruin the replacements from day one wacko.gif

You can try get this CAI hose for RM60 without metal fastener at:
AME AUTO PARTS (PJ) SDN. BHD.
25, Jalan 21/11A SEA Park
Petaling Jaya 46300
Selangor.
(Beside CIMB Bank)

I just bought mine from there. It's a bit more expensive than where neosaint99 got it. But since it still have stock so okok lah... The stock one looked very nice in engine bay.

I asked the boss there he say still have some stock... He say if want more maybe need order (Since not in production dy means that's all left) Maybe can try there?

Aftermarkets are cheap and effective also...
I had seen before a turbo hose which can extend to 2m long carrying price tag of RM40 with rings provided...
It's thicker and has larger diameter than those normal CAI hose... I think that's more worthy...

Just that ori one will look nicer cause it's shape can easily adapt into Saga's and Iswara's... You can try check the courier fees... If you're going for it I can try get it for you..

I installed DRL and added a fuse for it... Check my blog, got example there...
I tap the power from radio fuse and added a fuse and switch before connecting to the DRL.

What fuse rating did you get? Any harm if I don't add a fuse? Besides excess current flow? hmm.gif

I put 10 Amp. This wiring is for my DRL and my vacuum gauge lighting... I'll probably add more gadgets like turbo timer and stuffs thats on keys at with "acc" position.

10 Amp is more than sufficient for these 2 devices and more... Such as extra LED strips... But not for Amps of course...

Basically wiring is...
(Tap Radio Fuse)---(NEW fuse harness and fuse)---Switch(s)---Device(s)

Then I just wire another device in parallel from the new fuse harness...

Adding fuse will protect your wirings in case of short circuit... Your DRL's won't get more current without fuse, cause it doesn't need that much current in the first place (Not like starter/amps all those which require significant amount of current)

Example, if I wired like below:
(Tap Radio Fuse)----Switch(s)---DRL
Lets say water did get into DRL/wiring got loosen and both wires got short together... Short circuit will occur...
But due to the circuit is not fused, the radio fuse might blow... Or the worse is the radio will blow... In serious cases whole wiring burnt... The damage could be excessive...
But if it is fused, the New fuse will blow instead, leaving radio fuse and radio untouched... I can easily give conclusion that the DRL is shorted or something wrong with it's wiring...

Therefore it's very important to fuse a circuit, the 50sen fuse might save you from expensive damages to your ICE/car wiring...

Then you just need to tap the fuse from rear light fuse instead of radio fuse.
You can skip the fusing also if you want. Then you gotta make sure you tapped the correct "legs" of fuse. One side of leg is constant 12v while another side has no voltage if the fuse is not connected/blown.

MUST connect to the no voltage leg if you plan to skip the fusing. So that a short circuit will blow the rear light fuse, if not it will blow main fuse at the battery (If main fuse is available, if dun have then bye bye your wiring)...

Yeap, after market CAI can work too. Only slight difficulty may be getting the CAI to fit into the fender hole (it is square)...but I'm sure some creative solutions will be found smile.gif

Oh yes!...you are absolutely right. There is a wire going through it, if my memory serves (cant remember what it is for tho). I made an insuflex plug for it. If the round hole is now used for CAI, then just make the plug for the square hole. Assuming the CAI duct is smaller than the round hole, one could make a sleeve out of Insuflex to hole the duct in place. If its snug enough, it will click in really well coz the rings of the duct will 'clip' into the rim of the hole biggrin.gif

Try to move the wire to run through the square hole then...afraid it will get pinched between the duct and the rim and ultimately get cut through...

Price did gone up a lot for the 1/2 inch one... Preferable get 3/4 inch one as can get nearly two of 3/4 inch for the price of one 1/2 inch one... The effect is slight improvement for door closing but kinda helps for high speed travelling...

DRL= Daytime running lights... It's to increase awareness for other drivers... like those 18 wheelers driver to see us when we coming out from a junction...

not sure off the top of my head...
will have another look at it tomorrow...if you have to take off the whole fender, then definitely not worth it
hopefully there is a simpler solution...lets see how it goes...else will have to put a thick sleeve or something around the wire where it will be rubbing the rim so as to avoid friction wear smile.gif

Puspakom is going to ban tints?....thats really crap man
if so, we are going to become like brunei
we live in a frekkin blazing hot country and we cant tint our car to keep it cool?...only 'special people'...a.k.a. the "elite" of the country (and i say this with the utmost sarcasm and scorn), will be allowed to tint?...

DIY installed original proton CAI duct
this will give your car cold air just like the other hosing n all...but is much neater. Also, since its drawing air from the fender cavity, there should be negligeble spray n kick-up getting sucked in...this should keep your air filter cleaner longer wink.gif
cost: RM51

its such a common problem and yet proton refused to rectify the problem - with an extremely economical and proven method...right up till the last iswara rolled off the production line grumble.gif

Hey guys,

planning to change the aircon panel bulbs on my own for the first time. Any of sifus here know how to detach the panel and change the bulb safely?

Would really appreciate some help to prevent any mistakes while attempting the DIY.
Thanks.
