QUOTE(hksgmy @ Apr 24 2024, 11:18 PM) I’ve never experienced that before, but then again we are PRs so that would be coded into the readable part of the passport for sure, since that doesn’t comes with a visa stamp anymore. Hmm, yea maybe it's different for PR holders. In NZ, PR holders can't use the autogates either We only get to go to the local immigration counter lol.

QUOTE(hksgmy @ Apr 24 2024, 11:47 PM) That’s just asking for trouble…. Yup. So I don't really blame the Aussie authorities because it's really too rampant already the discussion on how to abuse the visa.

If the UK imposes restrictions, Schengen will likely follow. If that happens, I guess just travel within Asia......

Side track a little bit… are you (I assume) still holding on to your NZ PR? I heard for NZ, once you’re a PR, it’s for life unlike for Oz. Is that still true?

QUOTE(polarzbearz @ Apr 24 2024, 11:11 PM) Does it work for non-PR holders though? Memory could be bad but I recall Malaysian tourists were routed to manual counter, but then that was my first time there so I was also pretty blur so probably foggy memory Edit: it was at Melbourne Airport. Don't know about Sydney. It's based on having a machine readable passport. Not on what visa you use to enter with. I have never any problem using the autogate, but my wife has a problem with her face recognition, so many times get diverted to a human.

If that happens, I guess just travel within Asia...... About 10 years ago, UK threatened to remove Malaysia's "visa free" (technically it's visa on arrival) status, but the Malaysian government appealed and they relented. It's not too bad now, as the visa abusers have reduced, and moved attention to Australia. There is a risk Australia may remove Malaysia from the ETA list, they has already issued statements hinting at possible withdrawal. This post has been edited by limeuu: Apr 25 2024, 08:52 AM

The PR is still valid and attached to my passport. False alarm.

QUOTE(Icehart @ Apr 25 2024, 10:22 AM) Is there still ABF officer stationed at the airport to check your credentials and ETA? Usually that’s all electronic now. I can’t say about KLIA, but if you don’t have a valid visa attached to your passport, Changi won’t even let you board the flight.
