I submitted ETA application on 8th April and until today there is no update. Is the time frame normal? it's has been more than 2 week since I submitted the application
*
Could you check the latest status in their app?
Usually if its approved, they'll email you within a couple of days. If they require more info, you'll also be informed via email quite instantly. I last applied in July 2023 and got the email to submit extra info instantly after applying. ETA was approved ~5 days after submitting all the docs. Maybe processing time is much longer now.

And I second the age group algorithm that picks who is required to submit extra info. My family has applied in 2022 and 2023, both times parents (in their 70s) instantly approved while my brother and I (20-30s) instantly received email for further info to be submitted.

I applied using the app and after I made payment, I instantly receive an email asking me to login to Immi Account and submit additional supporting document. I have submitted all the supporting document including income, asset and prove that I have stable job here on 8th April. Until now there is no update whatsoever. It seems the processing time is indeed very long
*
Ohh so they already asked for supporting documents, then yes that's normal. It can take a couple of weeks for them to process it and get back to you. Took ~5 days in my 2023 application but I recall my 2022 application took 2-3 weeks at least. On average, friends and families have reported about 1 month processing time. Hence, I usually apply for ETA around 3 months before my trip.

Perhaps because you didn’t travel? If you did maybe the second eta would be easier?
*
I travel to Aus quite often for the past 10+ years and almost every year also apply for ETA. But last 2 years also kena ask for supporting documents sweat.gif

Yeah... according to limeuu, the reason for this is due to multiple cases of aeroplane jumpers from Malaysia ... amat mempersiasuikan
*
Yea, very mempersiasuikan. At one point, our Malaysian passport could use the autogate also. I've used it before in Melbourne once and only once lol. After that I think they stop it because of above reason also.
ETA used to be instant for us. Now need to plan ahead and provide all the docs, very mafan.

Can still use autogate. Assuming the face recognition works.
*
Ohh, but the officers usually see Malaysian passport and ask us to go to counter wor.

If you join look at one of the big Malaysians in Australia FB group, the one in mandarin, you'll see all kind of things there doh.gif then suddenly the clamp down on Malaysians does indeed make sense. Really memperxiasuikan sweat.gif
All the best to both of us! 🙏🙏🙏

Wow they openly post about those stuff on the FB group? Lol. Surprisingly the Malaysians in NZ FB group isn't like that. laugh.gif

I’ve never experienced that before,  but then again we are PRs so that would be coded into the readable part of the passport for sure, since that doesn’t comes with a visa stamp anymore.
*
Hmm, yea maybe it's different for PR holders.

In NZ, PR holders can't use the autogates either cry.gif We only get to go to the local immigration counter lol.

Side track a little bit… are you (I assume) still holding on to your NZ PR?

I heard for NZ, once you’re a PR, it’s for life unlike for Oz. Is that still true?
*
Yup that is true smile.gif

The difference isn't between your ticket and ETA. It's between your ticketed name and your passport details.

All details must tally (number, dob, name, expiry date, place of issue) between the booking, presented passport and visa. Any information not tally, the system automatically rejects and a human must oversee and override.

Our Malaysia passport is the culprit for many airline check in problems all over the world laugh.gif

When UK and the EU starts their eVisa systems (coming soon), I expect the same issue to jam up Malaysians as well
*
Already had issues when checking in on flights while I was in UK and Europe recently. laugh.gif
I've learnt to always go early for flight check ins because there's definitely gonna be a delay due to our names.

IC is another issue. My name has a hyphen in it and passport doesn't allow hyphens. This was an issue when I tried to convert my Malaysian driver license into NZ driver license. They said it's not the same person because driver license and passport name does not match sweat.gif

Because of a hyphen!?!?

How daft can this be?!
*
Ikr lol. Also because my brother and I both have a hyphen between our chinese name, banks letter all same initials and we don't know who it's for until we check the bank account lol.

E.g. Tan Ah-Kow and Tan Ah-Beng
Letters address to "A Tan" and "A Tan"

QUOTE(haya @ Apr 26 2024, 06:35 AM)
Wait till your passport is in the format of Anthony Loke Siew Fook, your drivers licence is in the format of Anthony Siew Fook Loke, your Medicare card is in the format of Anthony S Loke, your bank card is in the format of Anthony Loke, and you need to do a police check (for non-migration related purposes)
It depends on the country

In Australia hyphens can't be used for names

So you can't name your kid Jean-Pierre Bréhie

But hyphenated surnames are okay. Hence you get Mike Cannon-Brookes

Those who have hyphenated names and migrate to Australia, have very interesting experiences
*
Lol OMG just reading that already gave me a headache xD

Lucky my name is Loke Siew Fook Anthony, so positioning of first/last name issues not so bad with all these official documents. However, for NZ driver license now, because our Malaysian passport doesn't have first/last name, our whole name is our last name lol. Looks damn weird on the driver license card. sweat.gif

I did not submit my employment letter, house mortgage loan document but i did submit my house pintu cukai from DBKL to prove that I own a house. And that house is currently rented out and I have submitted stamped tenancy agreement. but it was still rejected.
*
I personally don't think that's enough to show you own a house. You need to show that you have commitments in Malaysia like a house mortgage and work that you have to go back to.

Should I re-apply ETA or appeal the current application and submit my mortgage loan document?
*
Not sure which would be a better option for you. Probably appeal if there is an option to appeal. Better let others with similar experience answer this question of yours.

For future visa/ETA applications, best to submit everything. The more supporting documents the better.

In vk_flying fox's situation, I think the company should just apply for the right visa. If Australia allows meetings/trainings on tourist visa, then maybe a letter from the company stating the true purpose of travel will be useful?

yeah so if he’s being sponsored, then maybe this one is more suitable? not sure.. he needs to do more research or ask the official. pay more better than reaching there then having them deporting you due to wrong visa 😂
*
Pretty sure the company wants to save money and make their staff get ETA on tourist visa so it'll be less cost for them. The employee will bear the consequences though if they get deported and caught lying.

1 week in without any responses  bangwall.gif
4. yea ik. it was not wise to say the least...

For Malaysians below 40 yo (based on friends and family's ETA applications), generally you will need to give yourself more time to get an ETA.

I've been applying every year for the past 3-4 years, every year also ask for more info, every year also I'll apply around 2 months in advance lol. My most recent application was in March this year, submitted extra info on 3rd March, got the approval letter on 8th March. Hopefully you'll get a respond within this week.

Above 40 they more lenient is it? May have plan to apply ETA in the following years.
*
Age is a huge factor yea, based on friends and family experiences. Above 40yo usually get their ETA approved immediately. Below that, every time apply also require further info. laugh.gif

Final update:
- Most probably going to cancel my flight in a few hours.
- Two weeks+ without any responses
- In hindsight, I would recommend others in the same age bracket as me (below 30) to directly apply for the Subclass 600 Visitor Visa instead.
- From what I have read, ETA further processing, in some cases, has indefinite processing time, whereas for Subclass 600, they have a deadline to meet.
*
Sorry to hear that. Below 30 I think the rejection rate is even higher. Best to apply few months in advance.

Have you tried to contact them and request for an update?
