always wanted a Tesla model 3, concern on the range.
Currently driving G20, spirit driving every weekend KL-Ipoh.
Weekday pickup truck work.
wanted to convert my G20 to Tsla M3 LR RWD.
still cant pull a trigger due to this, will be very hassle chore to find fast charger every weekend
Got my M3 LR RWD for close to 14 days now with about 700km mileage (3 days in tint and ppf workshop), sharing my experience so that you can make a better informed decision.
I have not installed a wall charger yet cos still awaiting quotation on solar and possible conversion to 3 phase electricity. So ive been relying on external ev charger like ChargEv that is nearby my house about 2km drive. This ChargEv has max 60 kwh for 2 bays, and ive been charging at odd hours, thus could capitalise on the max 60kw rate. Averagely, 30% to 80% (NMC battery of LR RWD is supposed to charge till max of 80% for daily use and only 100% when going for trips) will take about 50minutes. I find the 50minutes wait totally acceptable. Can easily hang out at mamak to pass that 50 minutes or watch netflix in your car while charging, 1 kdrama episode. Im getting used to the 50 minutes wait now and i find it okay, not as bad as i initially thought. My only complaint is the high cost of the 60kw charger, which costs rm1.30/kwh, so 30% to 80% will cost about rm60. I believe we can reduce the charging cost to half if we can charge at home.
On the max range of M3 LR RWD though, not a good news for you. At 80%, my screen is showing only 500km. So if im to extrapolate, 100% will give only 625km, far off from the claimed range of 750km by tesla. Taking into consideration that i have only driven for 700km, and only charged twice, im hoping my max range may not be the most accurate yet due to heavy right footing and adaptation to EV vehicle. I have asked chatgpt, and it seems that this max 625km is the correct real world range for the new LR RWD. Any other users of M3 LR RWD can share their max range?
All in all though, still happy with the buy. I always think that i have got this car for the price of a new CRV in Malaysia. Honda CRV or a Tesla, my answer is obvious. I have to declare though that this is my secondary car, alza is still my main family car, thus i have a lil more room for fun factor. And boy, this tesla M3 is a really fun car to me.
Good luck buddy. Better decide fast, 31 Dec is coming!
