![]() ![]() Though it has built-in fan, the housing still feel hot. The fan might just triggers on its highest threshold. Have to diy extra cooling and tape any leakage. Now the housing don't feel warm at all. Have to do this as i hope it can last for long time even after contract expired. Also hoping by that time this modem is unlockable and can be modified just like b618. At the moment, this modem also can be unlocked if you have the unlock code. Tips of the Day Go get Kitchen Oil Splash Proctector Aluminium Foil from Mr DIY or Daiso (must hard sheet, soft sheet with foam type can't), no need unfold first, just put it beside the 5G modem router (check signal reading to see put at which side gives you best result, u can try blocking 1 side or 2 side or 3 side). It could increase RSRP. This method was originally used to increase wifi signal by forcing the signal to one direction. *UPDATE: after extensive test, although it could increase signal, but it also could increase interference/noise too, so it might or might not improve the speed, result not consistant. If you are using the modem router built-in wifi then don't try this trick. ![]() https://www.mrdiy.com.my/default/kitchen-oi...-9065798-001001 This post has been edited by BOTAK_WAI: Mar 28 2025, 12:03 AM PRSXFENG liked this post

QUOTE(BOTAK_WAI @ Mar 26 2025, 02:43 PM) signal not good but sinr is good, very less interference. like i suggested before, want cooler just turn off the built in wifi, and connect to another strong wifi router via cat6 cable to act as access point. ![]() Way ahead of you. Been doing this since using b618. The router has openwrt and adguard as dns forwarder. Only using DOH and DOT. My house is 36 x 65 double storey. Wifi5 5Ghz can cover the whole house with this setup. Only use 1 wifi router. The other in the picture just for back up. Supposed there should be another 4G modem that will act as internet back up and volte phone. Ps. Turning off wifi on modem doesn't really reduce the heat as i already tried on this modem, hence the diy. CAT 5E cable is sufficient for 1 gigabit or less. QUOTE(BOTAK_WAI @ Mar 26 2025, 04:19 PM) lol....setup like this waifu no komplen ke? LOL, Wife and children never complain as long there's internet and it is fast.![]() Yup, i kept some of them. Though just 11a/b with only wep encryption, might come in handy for experimental purpose. I did fired up those 2 and still working. Sadly no longer relevant for daily use. Glad nowadays devices become cheaper and less complicated. Last time i had to use a laptop for routing and combining multiple isp for backup and redundancy. Using FreeBSD for the OS. Now much simpler by using Openwrt and DDwrt and can be installed in any supported router. |

Whoa, can't remember 😅. Was too long ago. Things back then were not cheap. My Compaq Armada M300 lappy in year 2000 bought for nearly 10k. That did not include the docking system to support floppy and cd drive.ya. 11a/b era zyxel was the brand telco mainly use. but totally not affordable until 11g, yang afford tu bangsawan pakai laptop. so 56k dial-up user mostly jump into adsl and adopt 11g wifi. I also used U.S. Robotics modem before it was bought by 3com. It was 28.8k dial up. Imagine the struggle at that time that newer generation never get to taste. My slowest modem back then was Hayes 2.4kbps used for data transfer before internet was a thing in Malaysia. |
